what happened is really painful, but we can't blame the private owners, some of them have had bad experiences when trying to fulfill their moral obligation but if these hospitals agree to treat each person without payment, they will go broke and we will all soon be out of healthcare facilities.

Such a sad story but the truth is it will happen again if we don't start asking the right questions starting with "who should fund health care?" Because it was the apparent lack of funds that prevented the woman from accessing prompt treatment that could probably have saved her life.

It is agreed all around the world that out-of-pocket payment, as in this case, is NOT a desirable health care funding option, because believe it or not, emergencies can happen anywhere and anytime and having the funds somewhere else at the time it is needed, wouldn't do, especially in a private hospital! That's why sensible governments provide on-demand basic and emergency services for her people without need for instant payment. Do we have any of such over here? Are our hospitals even places one can run to or why do our leaders always jet out at the slightest symptom of ill-health?

No doctor likes to see patients die, forget the straight faces when breaking the news, doctors nurse the sad memories of every patient they loose but could have saved. But being a doctor isn't a genetically determined role like a soldier termite, its not even a calling (that's a personal conclusion) because anyone can be trained to be a doctor. Doctors are professionals, offering services that must be paid for like the consumed services doctors pay for too! Running a hospital is no joke and most owners offer some kind of free services on a regular basis, but there's a limit they can go.

I do not want to apportion blame, rather, I'm about how to prevent a repeat.

acidosis™:

how can you even save a life without money ?? Money comes first brother.. Even the doctors pay huge fees to get the training... Do not be decieved by a mere motto

Bro,,, this is a bull.shit you stated up here. two lives were lost just because of 20k...

the lives were not lost because of 20k . that is superficial analysis. How do we know that. Do we know for a fact that One billion would have saved her life?? No we don't. The problem is a much deeper one. Civilized people learn from tragedies and change their behaviour, processes and systems.

WHAT HAVE WE LEARNT? and HOW WILL WE DO THINGS DIFFERENTLY?
One thing is clear doctors are not willing to treat patients for free. That is a given so how do we incorporate that into our planning ? Surely government has a role to play?
