President Goodluck Under Fire From Social Media Activitists Over Failed Promise. by kulutempa: 1:39am On Dec 07, 2012
The Facebook page of Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has today been bombarded by messages from Social Media activists from across the world who are holding him to account over his failure to keep to a promise he made in last May to spend $4 million to clean up Bagega village in Zamfara state which has suffered one of the worst known outbreaks of lead poisoning in history. The money is required to clean up the village after which the children many of whom are still suffering from severe lead poisoning, can be treated. It looks like this time Mr President has committed a serious blunder by underestimating the extent of international awareness of the problem and the fact that you cannot go about making promises which you have no intention of keeping.

If we talk now some immature and clannish folks , rather than look at the issue on it own merit, will beginning mentioning Buhari, Tinubu, EL Rufai, Aregbesola or saying we hate GEJ. Here it it is crystal clear to any balanced adult that the President made a serious promise concerning a very serious situation having very serious implications for many to include the group, in any society on earth, one must not play politics with - children.

Yet Nigerians see money being spent 'yafun-yafun', insensitively and callously on banquet halls, aeroplanes and other things that should amount to frivolities in the grand scheme of things for a President with a properly calibrated moral compass. There is no self-sacrificial or lead-by-example mien about GEJ at all. Yet, throughout the world, we see other leaders showing leadership qualities by responding humanely to grave situations.

The leader of one of the richest and most stable nation on earth, David Cameron, took the decision to fly commercially (BA, Virgin et al) to empathise with the British people over harsh economic conditions. Yet that is not enough for some of the blind supporters of our own profligate President to ponder on. Everything , for them, is about us "hating" the President because we criticise his actions no sane person should defend.

I keep saying it that when we have the right President in place, no one would need to tell us a good, responsible, caring, altruistic and efficient solutions provider is in charge. We will all feel the effect to the extent some of us will not even have the mouth or will to criticise such a President.
