I wish to educate fellow Nigerians about how to achieve success in MLM in Nigeria if you must do MLM to make a living. I prefer that any serious minded Nigerian stay away from MLM and find something better to do with his time because it is easier to make a profit in gambling than to make a profit in many MLM businesses. Many Nigerians who join MLM come to them with serious intentions but do not know that they are frauds. However some know and still will join in the hope of making some money before the collapse.I am addressing those Nigerians who are being deceived yet do not know out of ignorance.

But I have to start with highlighting the fraudulent practices inherent in the MLM business model. Network marketing is one of the best business models but scammers all over the world have created a bad name for it by exploiting the loops in the model to defraud the undiscerning especially in countries like Nigeria.

Before you should invest in an MLM in Nigeria, the first wise step is to look diligently for the RIGHT COMPANY to do business with and avoid the many scammers, some cleverly disguised as legitimate outfits. Many Nigerians are gullible who quickly jump into any income opportunity that promises fantastic returns but without painstakingly analyzing the pros and cons of the opportunity and the business model.

Several MLM are binary and forced matrix pyramid schemes which are designed from inception to benefit mainly a few persons at the top. All the other participants on the lower rungs of the ladder usually will lose out in a fraudulent system that was designed to rob a foolish majority to benefit the smarter, cunning few! Therefore, avoid any MLM that is operating a binary or forced matrix scheme. This is lesson 1 and there are at least 10 lessons to learn to detect the scam MLMs in the market.

MLM or network marketing is the process that retails products via the use of independent distributors who build and manage their own sales teams known as down lines. Each person in the down line is also an independent distributor too with his own sales team. Each distributor recruits others to build a sales force.

A major benefit of MLM business model is that the manufacturer easily eliminates the costs of recruiting and sustaining its own sales teams which involve payment of salaries, wages, allowances and pension benefits. In other words, the selling function is outsourced to independent distributors who earn commissions with no strings attached. It is a highly cost effective marketing scheme for the companies that adopt it. Compensation to each distributor would be based on sales made by him and a percentage of the sales made by his down lines.

The two major keys to success in MLM:
1) Ability to identify the RIGHT COMPANY doing legitimate business
2) Ability to build a solid down line of effective sales persons
Other keys will be revealed as we get along.

How to smell and detect the scam MLM outfits in the market

In a MLM business, you are in business for yourself but not by yourself. Being in
business for you means that you buy the company’s products at wholesale prices
and can consume them yourself at wholesale prices. Secondly, you can buy at
wholesale prices and sell at retail prices and make a profit.

One of the wrong notions about many MLM businesses is that you have to sell the products at retail prices to be successful in the business. You are allowed to sell the products but if you want to realize the bigger incomes, you have to contribute your part in building the company. You build the company by building a network of down lines through which you can channel your products.

Lesson 2:
Avoid any MLM that has no products for sale. They are not legitimate MLM businesses. Look for a MLM that has a product that meets a need in the Nigerian market and solves a problem for Nigerians (not solving problems for Europeans in European markets).

Lesson 3:
Avoid any MLM that is focused on the recruitment of persons into the network and which pays commissions for the recruitment. If it pays commissions directly or indirectly, for recruitment or promotes people based on recruitment of others, then it is not a legitimate MLM business to do business with. If you join them, there is a 95% chance that you will be frustrated and come out with nothing. You will lose your investment to the smarter, cunning 5 %. Many of them who give rewards for recruitment are not into any serious business, only money circulation outfits.

A legitimate MLM recruits sales persons but does not give rewards for the recruitment of persons. It gives rewards based on sales performance and has a saleable product that meets a need and solves a problem in the market. Those that focus on recruitment and pay for recruitment usually have a product that cannot sell easily in Nigeria and the only option for you is to look for persons to recruit into the network. That is where the fraud is and I will explain in detail as we go along what they derive from the recruitment.

Nigerians, do not be fools anymore. Open your eyes and sharpen your brains to see the frauds in many MLM businesses. Nevertheless there are a few genuine ones operating in the Nigerian market, even now.
