benbuks: use first principle differentiate x1/3
hence or otherwise compute f ' [ x1/n ]

also by first principle

NB: use of binomials/series prohibited

asap.

thanks .

guys kindly give this a try plzzz..

Please help me prove that
Log(1+2+3)= Log 1+ Log2+ Log3

I did it by opening the bracket to get exactly what is at the right side but was told t'was wrong.

LHS: Log(1+2+3) =Log(6)
RHS: Log 1+ Log2+ Log3= log(1x2x3)=log(6),
therefore, LHS=RHS...proved

If i get your theory right:

log[x(1)+x(2)+x(3)+...+x(n)]=logx(1) + logx(2) + logx(3) + ... + logx(n)

then why is it that:

log10=log[1+2+3+4]=log1 + log2 + log3 + log4 = log(1x2x3x4)=log(24)

hence

log10=log24

which is a great contradiction!!!

Re: Nairaland Mathematics Clinic by Nobody: 8:36pm On Aug 04, 2014
Log (1+2+3) is equal to log 6... also, log 1 plus log 2 plus log3 is equal to log(1X2X3) which is also log6.... He talked abt proving for the first 3 terms only...

this is not a theorem.. We are all familiar with the basic laws of indices nd logarithm nd dis is none of them..

All the same, what i did is still very right and correct for that question nd for that condition.. If you look closely, u wil notice dat we dealt wit jst first 3terms i.e 1,2 and 3.. Thanks for dat observation my boss!

this one na pry skul maths ooo..
t=2s/(2u+a)..

If the last t is squared,
t= 1/a (-u +/- sqrt(u2+2as))

1)¥(x2+ax-1)+¥(x2+bx-1)=¥a+¥b.
2)¥(2x+2+5)+¥(5.2x-9)=¥(3.2x+2+21).
Find x. NB:Let ¥ rep. square root.
Re: Nairaland Mathematics Clinic by Drniyi4u(m): 2:42pm On Aug 06, 2014
Arithmetic:
2)¥(2x+2+5)+¥(5.2x-9)=¥(3.2x+2+21).
Find x. NB:Let ¥ rep. square root.
I got x = 2.3219
this is d working

√(2x+2 + 5) + √(5.2x - 9) = √(3.2x+2 + 21)
let 2x = p
√(4p+5) + √(5p-9) = √(12p+21)
Squaring both sides
4p+5+5p-9+2√(4p+5)(5p-9) = 12p + 21
9p-4+2√(4p+5)(5p-9) = 12p+21
2√(4p+5)(5p-9) = 3p+25
Square both sides
4(4p+5)(5p-9) = (3p+25)
4(20p²-36p+25p-45) = 9p²+150p+625
4(20p²-11p-45) = 9p²+150p+625
80p²-44p-180 = 9p²+150p+625
71p²-194p-805 = 0
Solving quadratically,
p = 5 or -2.26
Since 2x = p
2x = 5
Simplifying, using log,
X = 2.3219
The second value of p which is -2.26 cannot generate real value

Please, great maths men help out with this questions.

1. A man travels from Nigeria to Ghana by air and from Ghana to Liberia by ship. He returns by the same means. He has 6 airlines and 4 shippings to choose from. In how many ways can he make his journey without using the same airline or shipping line twice. ( further maths/2006/theory/13b)

2. (a) There are 6 points in a plane. How many triangles can be formed with the points?
(b) A family of 6 is to be seated in row. In how many ways can this be done, if the father and the mother are not to sit together? (further maths/2006/theory/5)

By comparing the terms, a is equal to b... Buh I don't see howw yu wud divide equation 1 by 2 to get that value... by mere looking at the equation, yu can deduce that X is 1... can yu expatiate how yu got 1 +a/b?
