Your sudo password is the same with your login password. I trust your account was setup as admin. purplekayc: |
Re: Ubuntu Linux by blackweaver(m): 9:24pm On Apr 19, 2017 |
purplekayc: If this is ubuntu or an ubuntu derivative (kubuntu, ubuntu mate, xubuntu, lubuntu, mint or other distros based off any of these) then the sudo password should be the normal login password, else if you have root password you can su to root andrun whatever command you want |

peterincredible:copy all the files you don't want to lose into your Ubuntu partition most preferably your desktop folder After u are sure you've done that. Download Gparted by typing this into ur terminal sudo apt install gparted When installed Open Gparted and delete your windows partition(it is marked NTFS) and format it to ext3.Pls don't make mistake when using gparted,it can wipe out your data. click this link to learn how to use it http://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/gparted.html |

blackweaver:It surely has..even for centOS....it's only the latest version for centOS,7.0 that it doesn't have. I had to use Rufus to install centOS 7.0 |

Craigston: Meta key works absolutely fine on my KDE Neon. On the heavyness of KDE i think its still a myth that people talk about and I am yet to see a video that really brings this point to life. I have been using Kubuntu since 12.06 and now KDE Neon and I dont see how their memory usage differs from Ubuntu and non KDE distros. I will trully like to see a video where someone really illustrate this idea that KDE is heavy because you are not the first to say this. |
Re: Ubuntu Linux by Craigston: 10:20pm On May 05, 2017 |
Gargoylesmiles:A video can be faked, so go get some first-person experience. Install a window manager, install Xfce, then run user sessions in them. Compare the memory usage of each one from 'top'. Why do I have to install mysql-server to use KDE (from Kubuntu-desktop)? While starting a KDE session on my machine, the task bar icons show a visible delay in getting arranged. |

There's other OSs you can try too SmartOS is Illumos (Solaris) based, it's free and is a server OS you run off a USB stick. Has KVM, DTrace, a bunch of various Solaris tools which are really good for uptime, basically you can run a personal cloud with SmartOS quite easily and it's reliable. NixOS and Guix(sd) are functional systems. You configure your entire system with just one file. This means you can replicate the system anywhere, do transactional rollbacks to fix configuration problems, there's a bunch of benefits. Guix is a clone of the NixOS package manager written in Scheme, and you can install it on any existing Linux system like Debian/Ubuntu ect. You install packages with Guix as a non root user, and you can install dozens of different versions at once if you wanted. For example you can have 10 different GCC or Python versions all existing at once without interfering with each other. GuixSD is the experimental full system that's not entirely ready yet but you can play around with it in a virtual machine. Another benefit is 'guix environment' which completely replaces virtualenv and docker. You can put anything in there or write an app, and then deploy it as is instead of screwing around with virtual environments. The benefits of GuixSD is you can now script deployment of entire servers, so write one file config, then 'guix deploy' and you can replicate it to any server. NixOS is the same thing. Also if you want to learn more about LInux or BSD just go on library genesis (libgen . io ) and get a pdf file of 'Linux Unleashed' or 'Absolute FreeBSD' or any other NoStarchPress tech book 1 Like |

Re: Ubuntu Linux by sham0: 11:51am On May 25, 2017 |
joenor: I would suggest Ubuntu; it's more user friendly and reliable, although if you're looking for something like mac Os, try elementary os. https://elementary.io/ |
