Aftermath Of Fashola's Letter, FERMA Begins 'Patching' Apapa Oshodi Exp

After reports went round that Lagos state governor wrote President Jonathan over the Apapa - Oshodii expressway, men of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency were seen fixing a portion of the road along mile 2. Below is a picture taken from inside a moving bus.
Most part of the road remain in a deplorable state and patching won't help, instead rebuilding just like they done from Apapa to Sanya will work Magic.

This road killed my Uncle and I hold Jonathan, Sambo and their wives responsible for his untimely death!!!!!!!!11

What is d quality of all the jobs u believe Jonathan is doing. Is it not a case that they annouced one thing in a press confrence and do another. How come d said roads u said Jonathan is fixing is still a death trap. Even federal roads in Lagos, Nigeria's commercial heart-beat roads leading to critical facilities like d ports are left to rot.

Do u know my uncle died last year in Lagos when a container behind a lorry dropped on top of his car, he was trapped for 4 hours on the Oshodi-Apapa expressway. Who killed my uncle indirectly, no other person than Mr. President who could not fix a very critical road like that. Shame on this goverment

Commiserations on your loss. You could get a human rights lawyer and take FG to court if you can afford it. The case may take years, but people need to hold government accountable even if just to highlight the situation.

that's why we are asking for the kind of work Julius Berger did on a portion of the road that included drainage. Patching won't work, trailers plying that route will damage it in no time

You see those trailers carrying containers in the top picture. Can u imagine a trailer entrying a pot hole with all that load, thereby making the whole payload tilt over in-coming vechiles, that is what happened to my Uncle's car.

The Goverment of Jonathan and Sambo are directly responsible for his un-timely death. cry

The Apapa-Oworonshoki Expressway links the Murtala Muhammed Airport International, the Apapa Port and the Tin Can Island Port to the rest of the country (it also leads to the Third Mainland Bridge).
Re: FERMA Begins 'Patching' Apapa-Oshodi Expressway by babapupa: 9:15pm On Jan 08, 2013
The best solution is to scrape off what's left of that dirty road and start all over by expanding it and creatinga dedicated lane like brt for trailers and tankers.

Ultimately, they need to shift away from moving goods with trailers and tankers and start using rail

The rubbish road i passed through today? i don't think that picture is correct. Except for the picture with the big ditch, i am totally sure that is the service lane of Hassan bustop. That place is an embarrassment to Nigeria. The only part of the road that's motor-able to the fullest is when you are coming from Mile 2 up until Sanya. I wonder why they stopped work at that point. They should have just left things the way they are if they know they cant finish it up. I mean whats the point going halfway when you know it cant be completed and in years to come when you would like to do the other parts, the one you did years ago has started deteriorating? This country is doomed. There is so much we haven't learnt and need to still learn.

jmaine: So they need to be shamed to get them working . . . .
Let me play Devils advocate for FERMA here... This particular road reconstructn and expansion has already bn awarded to Julius Berger and anoda company who were doing a great work reconstructing d road earlier dis yr. For a reason, possibly funding, they slowd down d work and later stoppd work completely. When GEJ orderd FERMA to repair roads for d holiday seasons recently, i rememba sm persons tru d papers putting pressure on FERMA to include d road in d emergency repairs programme but FERMA flatly rejectd d suggestn insisting dat since Julius Berger had already bn contractd for d whole road, they not them ought to undatake any remedial works on d road. They were technically right. Its like afta d reports yterday, FERMA hv bn orderd to do d remedial work by a higher authority though.

At d end of d day, a reactivatn of d actual constructn contract to JB needs to be done asap, and then d rehabilitatn of port rail line linking d rehabilitatd Lagos-Kano track be completd (if it is not already completd) so dat d heavy duty vehicles that ply dat route every day wud reduce else d road wud always go bad even afta reconstructn. Alternate route shld also be opend up.....

Accept our condolences Know All
Try do what Ypzilanti suggested
@ thread,a road that needs to be completely rebuilt is been patched
Naija never ceases to amaze one for even LASG too patches roads though not strategic, economically important roads like the one been discussed
And patching is what FERMA specialises in
Visit Ikorodu Shagumu road&other federal roads to confirm to
Is it that Julius Berger which Calamity Jo's goons said was awarded the road contract, reawarded the contract to FERMA for patching?
So many questions,too few answers

Someone plz help, pardon my ignorance. I'm kinda confused: is it FERMA or FERPA (as in Federal Emergency Road Patching Agency) ?
This is because even with the 'Emergency' or even the Patching, we barely see any iota of seriousness of the so-called Federal Govt even on their so-called Federal expressways.

It seems to me much more easier to see late Musa Yaradua win 2015 presidency than for the lazy, lousy, talk-active FG to get up and fix their roads.
They rather keep on blabbing like fixing the roads is some evil mission to the land of no return
. Again one is left wondering what exactly they choose to occupy themselves with that roads are not treated as emergencies which they truly are.

And now, if the Nigerian Govt chooses to curse our roads by not fixing them that we keep dying, we the ordinary people of Nigeria hereby with every bitterness, curse the sky through which they fly, that their deaths which has commenced of recent shall continue with no end/hope for them in sight!

The problem with NIgerians. We fixate every problem on the FG in Abuja.
Now Fashola looks like a hero for getting FERMA to patch the road.
But the last I checked there are many LAgos state government roads that are in a pathetically deplorable situation.
Shouldn't LG chose en be writing letters to Fashola to do something also.
Lest we forget, the roads in Abuja are excellent.

Unfortunately for you, lagos state roads are not Jonathan business and the lagos state government built more roads than your Jonathan did as a governor and as the president of Nigeria combined even with all the oil money his mismanaging and sitting on including the money he's denying lagos state with his illiterate bad bele ways...shiorrr.

Hey the expressway in question here is FG's. Most people arent bellyaching that much over FG roads that are not expressways. Expressways are hypercritical, you know. No one is supporting Fashola's shortcomings. Besides when it's time for the State govts we talk about them too.
