Governor Sullivan Chime, who has been missing from Enugu State since September 2012 when he applied accumulated leave that ought to have lasted only one and a half months, is battling heart disease in London’s Cromwell Hospital, sources have told SaharaReporters.

Despite efforts to ferry him home to quell public restlessness in the State, the condition of the governor, whose medical sojourn started in India, has remained dire.

The prolonged absence of the Governor has left the state under the complete control of his Chief of Staff, Mrs. Ifeoma Nwobodo. Deputy Governor Sunday Onyebuchi, who is a neophyte, is limited to monetary spending limit of not more than N500,000k at a time.

Before becoming governor, Mr. Chime was Enugu state's Attorney General in the government of now-indicted former Governor Chimaroke Nnamani. During Chimaroke's reign in the state and for eight years, several assassinations, including that of Victor Nwankwo, the business manager of the vocal activist Arthur Nwankwo, helped to chill public dissent.

Following the disappearance from public view of Governor Chime in 2012, several assassinations have also been experienced in the state. Emeka Agwu, a man described as vocal and fearless, was assassinated in December 2012. He hailed from Udi, the same local government area as the governor.

Other assassinations, including those of Ogbo Edoda and Ikeckucku Alagwu, a coordinator of MDG projects in two LGAs, have sent fear throughout the state and chilled notable voices. So far, there are no investigations into those murders.

Enugu indigenes are fearful about what lies ahead for the State, and many prominent church leaders who hail from the same area as the governor have gone silent. The state assembly is also in the pockets of the governor.

A few days ago, a pro-democracy association of Enugu State citizens which calls itself the Save Enugu Group, called on Acting Governor Onyebuchi to make a “categorical explanation” on the condition and whereabouts of Governor Chime.
The Acting Governor has yet to respond.

I think the Enugu deputy governor and those in the state house have to start talking about the situation of things.

All these murderfuckers thinks oyinbos have magic wand to cure deadly diseases. That is what they die of hear in numbers too.But the only difference is that the mentally deprived are susceptible to it here, mostly because of their ignorant life styles. While in the nigeria the socalled rich suffers from it because of their ignorant life style that percieved as heavenly with stolen loots.

The President should wade into this matter since the Acting Governor is not forthcoming or afraid of constituting a panel to verify his state of health before the state assembly initiate an impeachment process. The NA assembly should also add a clause that states the duration of time a public official can be away from duty. Not until the President and PDP leadership take a bold move, the people of Enugu will remain in the dark.

Someone must act as an elder statesman in Enugu state. Chief C.C. Onoh's absence is being felt in this situation . He would have rallied folks to start talking about finding a solution through the state assembly. What are the following people ( Jim Nwobodo, Okwesilieze Nwodo, Ken Nnamani and Hyde Onuaguluchi) doing ? The gains achieved by Chime's government must not die. Enugu state must move on positively....

Isn't that the way Ndigbo play politics ? It could happen anyway in Igboland ie village , LGA , State . We should be leading where others fail , but we seem to develop political clay-feet when it matters most .

Nne Enugu is not that bad. The assasinations being reported are not as a result of Sullivans disappearance. Let's not forget that their was a frat war this december. Nne if Kidnappings were as bad as you stated, Enugu wouldn't have been filled up during last xmas and New year celebrations.

Basically, Enugu is not bad at all compared to what is happening in Imo and Anambra (with due respect)

those elements of PDP led govt in enugu states are criminals and assasins.those that should have helped to find solution to the continued absence of the governor are the same people who has collected crumbs from government's table including traditional rulers that Sullivain chime gave flashy cars;a symbol of frustrated regime. With nothing in doubt, the solution to this present problem in enugu state is elevation of status of the acting governor to substansive governor as Sullivain has lost his capability to govern.

Always US and UK for treatment. Yet they end up being treated by nigerian doctors and nurses over there. How much will it cost d govt to build a world class hospital in nigeria? Just saying

How come the Chief of Staff Mrs Nwobodo and not the Deputy Governor or is it Acting Governor Onyebuchi that's "in complete control" of the state?
