When the isrealites were running from the egyptians, they met an obstacle in the form of a sea. Infact it was more of a wide river than a sea as it was on the thinniest part or the sea. (see map). Moses carefully chose this route for a reason.

In those days, isrealites were in charge of all the works in egypt. They built big things and were their chief engineers. The isrealis built a dam on the narrow part of the sea. They knew how to open and close the dam. The dam operator then waited as Moses instructed.

When they reached the sea, Moses gave a sign to the dam operator by raising his staff. The operator closed the dam which made water stop flowing and land appearing. After crossing, the egyptians followed, and moses gave the same prearranged sign to reopen the dam. The flowing water swept away the egyptians.

So you see, it was no miracle but a cunning Moses using engineering to his advantage.
