@poster,go see a dermatologist for the physical examination and treatment.
itching generally might be caused by :
fungus infections
hives and lice
scabies and ezcema
atopic and contact dermatitis
presence of hookworm  larvea on the skin.
contact irritants like soap and chemicals in the water(used for treating water)
dry skin

meanwhile try :
lukewarm baths using very little soap.
moisturizers and skin soothing creams after bath.
go see a dermatologist.

Where do you live? Its the chemicals they used to clean and treat the water. Thats why its better to use hot water you wont get that itch.

I quite agree with you Lady T, it might be the chemical used to treat the water.
Try warm water if that doesn't solve the problem, its better to see your GP.

What is your hygiene like?
Do you sun dry your towel after usage and how often do you wash your towel?
I will advise you take care of that and see if there is an improvement before you start consuming antibiotics.
Regards

Dear Poster,
But you didn't give enough details especially about the particular environment or surrounding influence of the place, ie the circumstances, the environment, the atmosphere, the temperature etc of the place. These factors can help understand why you experience this itches. Such itching condition could also be caused by your skin type (especially in a change of weather situation) and the kind of soap or shower-gel you use; more so, you could just be having some allergies to your sponge, towel or your body-drying method.
A lot of Africans experience this in Europe especially during their first winter experience, but they get over it with simple bathe adjustments while their bodies begin to get use to the change of weather.
There are various reasons that could be responsible for this itching condition, and it's usually nothing to fear much about, and it doesn't necessarily have to be treated with medicines, but some adjustments to these mentioned factors could be of remedy.
My advice is: make some adjustments to some of these mentioned factors and see what work best as the remedy, trust me, the solution is just within your ability.
But however, if you feel the need to see a Doctor, then, see one. But i suppose the Doc can only help to give advice, but he can't do much to stop the itching because the real course might just be the least thing that you can avoid.

I used to experience the same thing too. What I did is that I stopped using sponge and it stopped itching after bath. Now I use only soap to bathe.

I do not think it is anything to do with infections or the water.

Are you a consultant or something like that?
Before giving recommendation, how much understanding do you have on this matter?
Mind you, it's not a medical condition but rather a minor discomfort and it's not supposed to cost him a Dime or Penny, not even a Kobo, all he needs is just a little adjustment which is not supposed to cost him any money .

If not take a warm bath.

Cold water can cause you skin to contract.

@ Vicjustice and all,

Thanks for ur comments. Its really not about where I live cos I have moved to different part of the counrty and still experience it. Warm water does help, though, and I have recently noticed that if I mop my body with towel as against scrubbing the towel on my skin, it tends to itch less.

But generally so far warm water/no sponge have solved the problem somewhat. Am a bit worried though if constant hot bath does not have any adverse effect on one's health.

Thanks all

Dear Vc
Warm water is very, very good for your health, it warms up your body and we know that a warmed up body is re-vitalised and is more fit for physical activities; but a cold water bath usually makes the body temporally chilled and will need to be warmed up by the body internal heat generating system before it is fit for activities.
Depending on the climate or weather, you can get some infections or illnesses from cold water bath. I've seen some people shivering during and after taking bath, do you think this is good for the health?
What would you say about those living in temperate regions who possibly have never had cold water bath all their lives, even when it's summer?
