Can Nigerian Football Experience The Same Turnaround As Did Her Music? by NeuroBoss(m): 8:27pm On Jan 25, 2013
Gone are the days when shops would close and traders headed home. When the busiest of roads in Lagos, Portharcourt and other major Nigerian cities would suddenly become as silent as a graveyard just to see the Super Eagles play.
My Dad, a die-hard fan of Leventis United Football Club recounted with sadness how Liberty Stadium used to be full to capacity on a match day and how he followed his favourite team to everywhere in Nigeria.
The lure to keep supporting foreign clubs have remained ever strong because that's where the best legs ply their trade with glamour . Even the national team have lost their support base in recent times as a result of their shabby performance in championships. Some Nigerians now support Ghana or Zambia in a competition that features Nigeria. This is unpatriotic! What is responsible for this regrettable decline in Nigerian football? What steps can be taken to bring our football back to its glory days? I believe the situation is still not far from being redeemable as we've experienced the same with the music industry when foreign musics saturated our airwaves until the revolution by indigenous producers and artistes. Let's rub mind please....
