It is true that many women abort for so many reasons.

1. What are the reasons for abortion.
2. Do you find abortion acceptable, if so why? If not, why?
3. What will make you consider aborthion over other alternative?

I will be back to answer these questions.
Re: Abortion: Why? by Seun(m): 1:06am On Aug 12, 2005
1) According to 'Reasons Why Women Have Induced Abortions: Evidence from 27 Countries', The top reasons for induced abortion among women in Nigeria are:
- "Having a child will disrupt my education or job" (40.4%)
- "I have a relationship problem" or "my partner does not want the pregnancy" (31.9%)
- "I want to postpone childbearing" (19.9%)

Other reasons include:
- "I want no (more) children"
- "I cannot afford a baby".
- "I'm too young - my parents object to the pregnancy".

2) I find abortion acceptable if the mother's health is in danger.  I find late-stage abortion (after 6, 7 months plus) disturbing.  I find it unacceptable in cases of rape because if the rape is reported immediately to a good doctor there is almost no risk of pregnancy.  In all other cases, I have no opinion - each case should be considered separately.  (I don't think it's legal in Nigeria if the mother's health isn't at risk)

3) It depends on the case.  Where pregnancy is concerned, prevention is better than the cure.

Re: Abortion: Why? by hotangel2(f): 1:22am On Aug 13, 2005
I believe that abortion is wrong. I believe that life is a precious gift from God, and no one should have the right to take that away. Every unborn baby has the potential to be a child, an adolescent, an adult, a friend, a sibling, a spouse, a parent, a mentor, a teacher, a leader, a positive influence in another's life. I believe that to take away this option is in-human. Except for in some cases.
Re: Abortion: Why? by WesleyanA(f): 2:14am On Aug 13, 2005
yes i also think abortion is wrong.
Re: Abortion: Why? by hopy2005(f): 3:17pm On Aug 13, 2005
I think that Any form of human life that is also considered a person, and thereby has civil rights, including the right to life. There is a societal consensus that a newborn is a human person. People disagree about whether a zygote, embryo, or fetus is a human person. People have different opinions about the stage at which human life becomes a human person. This is the core disagreement that drives the abortion wars.

Meanwhile, the Bible says, do not kill, but come to look at this issue of abortion many have killed and shared innocent blood, through abortion, if for instance our own parents killed us during there time wht should have being our story 2day. the Bible says what so ever thing a man soweth the same he will reap.
Re: Abortion: Why? by hopy2005(f): 3:38pm On Aug 13, 2005
Causes of abortion.

i, The main problem of the abortion is psychological and is fear:

2. Fear for Financial difficulty to raise the child.
This is a consequence of lack of confidence in God since the most beautiful and desired for a mother should be her own son.

Fear as a consequence of lack of money, being worried what other people might think, confronting the nine months of pregnancy and the responsibility are the main causes of abortion.

Unfortunately this consumer and false values society we all are living in, has devalued the baby who must come to this world and with its rationalism has created a false fear. Let us see a great example: Kay James, a Public Relations Officer for PRO-LIFE MOVEMENT in the United States speaks of a terribly poor black woman, who was ditched by her alcoholic husband, who had his fourth baby on a table. "I was that baby", says Mrs. James who is graduated at the University and mother of 3 children.

3. Fear to what people or parents might think or say.

(When getting pregnant during the engagement). Actually, human concepts and reasonings, including those of parents or third parties must not prevent a creature from coming to this world. Life is given by God and God is above all concept.

4. Fear to the 9 months of pregnancy and to the pain during the labor.

Actually, the greatest mission of every woman, is to be mother and to bring children to the world. If animals that are irrational do not deny this right, Why is the woman going to be scared, if it is a natural function that corresponds to her feminine nature?
Many have lost their womb all in the name of abortion and today are looking for children, God will help us.
Re: Abortion: Why? by Latoya(f): 5:52am On Aug 16, 2005
Abortion is a sin in the eyez of God.
it can be acceptable in some conditions, like a 50-60 years old women getting pregnant and a risk of her loosing her life in the process of birth,a disabled child*serious disablity*,complicated Pregnancies that can lead into health problems after birth.
These are fair enough reasons to abort, unlike some very silly stupid mistakes of teens and young adults getting pregnant and they think the only option is to abort.if u know u dont want a child y then did u go into that process of child making?u shuld keep your legs tight close.always think of the outcome of every thing u get involed in.
Instead of abortion y not give birth to the child, take it to an orphanage and visit regularly. That child is your Blood and not anyone else's.
Re: Abortion: Why? by layi(m): 2:25pm On Aug 17, 2005
When u use abortion pills, you r reducing your potential of becoming pregnant later in life. The linin of the womb (endothelium) is rough (shaki) and its there so the foetus can stick/connect to sumtin in the womb through the development stage. Most pills will try to scrape off the lining of the womb and anything conceived there will be washed away. The linin at a point will become smooth. This is the main cause(apart from psychological)  of miscarriage in women.

Abortion is bad spiritually and physically.

Re: Abortion: Why? by twinkledew(f): 2:42pm On Aug 29, 2005
i wld find abortion acceptable if it is for medical reasons. i.e if the child's life is going to endanger mine.
But religiously i do not believe in abortion. it is not right for someone to take the life of another (God has created). so i wld not abort a baby due to my own mistake (i.e if i get pregnant mistakenly) i wld take responsibilities for my stupid actions rather than blaming the child and killing him/her.
Re: Abortion: Why? by mycutiepie(f): 6:10am On Sep 07, 2005
Abortion- the main reason behind it is the way our community see a pregnant secondary school gal or unmarried lady. Its like a big taboo for you getting pregnant out of wedlock. Which I oppose, cos some certain babies are to come to life to make changes, wedlock or no wedlock. Children are the heritage of God. Watch out for my drastical measures on this issue.

Life is a precious gift from God. There are so much innocent life in this world. Also there are loving and caring lives that should live. Our new life should be lived and not killed.

Abortion should not be permitted in the United States. Two or more abortion can lead to problems or diseases like cancer. The person should  suffer the consequences of what has happened. The new life as no fault of what as happen.

They might have fear for financial difficulty to raise the child.
This is a consequence of lack of confidence in God since the most beautiful and desired for a mother should be her own son. Fear as a consequence of lack of money.  Being worried what other people might think of them. They should worry about confronting the nine months of pregnancy and the responsibility are the main causes of abortion and should be thought of before it happens.

Abortion is a sin in the eyes of God. If the person did not want a child then why did they go into that process of child making? They should always think of the outcome of everything  before it happens. Instead of abortion and not give birth to the child, take the child to an orphanage and visit regularly.

Life should be lived and not be killed. Innocent lives should be lived. the saying goes "children are the future." If there are no children there will be no future.

I think I've said it all in the other thread (https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-2149.0.html), but let me repeat for clarity's sake:

* Abortion has a lot of negative effects. Therefore it should be avoided where possible through comprehensive sex education and proper facilities for planned parenthood (including giving all information on alternatives for abortion)
* The main thing creating the divide is determining when you're talking about human life, or more precisely, when you're talking about personhood. No sane person will condone the killing of a person. The question is then: at what time during the pregnancy does the fetus become a person. The fetus acquires personhood when sentience kicks in. This is certainly not before 23 weeks, as the neural networks to process external information are not yet present. The capacity to feel pain certainly does not start before 29 weeks. You could say that personhood starts somewhere between 23 and 30 weeks
* Before that time, it is entirely up to the woman to decide whether or not to have an abortion
* After personhood starts, we should weigh the life of the mother against that of the baby. At that time, only very grave reasons (such as a heavy handicap of the fetus) could justify an abortion as you are killing a person

Other consideration are usually emotional or otherwise irational.

No offense Z4M4eva, but could you read the discussion in this thread https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-2149.0.html
It is just not so black-or-white as you make it seem. Maybe you'll alter your perception.

I think abortion is a sin, as read in the ten commandmenths "Thou shall not kill".
Personally i feel the only one to take away life is GOD for he gave us life, and is the only one to take it away.I love kids and if i were to impregnate a girl who decided to take up abortion i'd be furious at her.
Re: Abortion: Why? by Nia: 9:07am On Mar 19, 2006
The issue of abortion is a critical one and is rarely so cut and dry. I don't demonize people for commiting abortion because i doubt those who commit abortion enjoy it or do it for frivolous reasons. I encourage prevention, but I don't oppose abortion.
Re: Abortion: Why? by mamaput(f): 9:22am On Mar 19, 2006
It depends
In case of sickness or rape i cannot expect the woman to want to keep the baby
Re: Abortion: Why? by Rhodalyn(f): 10:08am On Apr 12, 2006

Re: Abortion: Why? by baralatie(m): 8:29pm On Apr 22, 2006
coolLet us imagine This, there are so many ways for awomen to get pregnant:Through lawful union,Through sexual intimacy,Through forced sex and the worst rape. All of these leaves the woman with a choice to keep the baby or not to keep the baby. That the baby come in an unauthodox manner or not .the following are important.do both partners ever want to keep a baby, if it is rape -not having the baby will it keep away the painful memory if the baby would bring goodluck and fortune would it be fair to terminate its' life prematurely?.For women who have been raped or seduced, forced into sex against there wil,I know it is difficult but from my experience when you choose not to be tied down and not to be afraid to make a positive decision about life. One will always come out victorious with God on our side.

Abortion in evry sense is bad in that u have no right to take a life! That story of foetus/personhood doesnt justify d act of abortion. That foetus had life!
