Catholic Church, Pope Benedict XVI, will
resign from office at the end of February
2013.

A spokesperson of the Vatican announced
that Pope Benedict XVI’s resignation as
Pope will take effect from Thursday,
February 28, 2013.

No reason for this action is known yet but
barely 24 hours ago, the Pope tweeted “We
must trust in the mighty power of God’s
mercy. We are all sinners, but His grace
transforms us and makes us new.”

Pope Benedict XVI ascended the exalted
position in April 2005 taking over from Pope
John Paul II. He was then aged 78.

Pope Celestine V was the last Pope to ever
resigned from office in 1294.
