I Owe Nobody Any Apology For My Absence – Governor Chime

The Enugu State Governor, Sullivan Chime on Tuesday said that he never regretted the fact that Nigerians particularly the people he governs were kept in the dark during his five-month absence insisting that he owed nobody any apology for keeping them guessing throughout the period.

Mr Chime, who spoke to a select group of journalists at the Governor’s Lodge, Enugu said that he was hit by deadly cancer of the nose which he had to treat in a London hospital during his long period of absence from office.

The Enugu State Governor, Sullivan Chime

He described cancer as a deadly disease and added that its cure was deadly too.

“Cancer is a deadly disease and the cure is also deadly. The cure for cancer is not Panadol. The cure for cancer is not these drugs you buy off the counter. By the time you go through Chemotherapy and radiotherapy, you will be a changed person.

“So I started treatment and the treatment altogether lasted for twelve weeks. Throughout the period of my treatment, I was an outpatient. I was never admitted in any hospital. All my treatments, I took as an outpatient,” he said.

journalists have already began trying to sore the man's good name.

He did everything he's supposed to. he handed over, he took time off, he got treatment, he came back, he resumed work, and he told you he had cancer of the nose. What else do nigerians want except to insult a man while he's ill?

Yar adua didn't hand over
yar adua didn't tell anyone he was gone
yar adua let his wife take over
yar adua's cabal looted the treasury in his absence
yar adua's cabal pretended he was alive when he wasn't
Till this day it has not be formally announced what was wrong with Yar Adua

Chime handed over
Chime told everyone he was going to be gone
chime handed over to the deputy
Enugu functioned
Enugu even expanded it's building projects
Chime told us in his own words he had nose cancer and was going through chemo but was an outpatient and didn't technically 'stay' at a hospital
Chime returned and resumed power

he did no crime in getting sick and yar adua did no crime in getting sick but the way the two handled it was the issue and Chime did well.

Revealed: “I suffered from cancer of the nose” – Governor Chime
After several months of cover ups by aides to Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State, the Governor has opened up on his state of health, declaring that he suffered from cancer of the nose.
In a chat with journalists on Monday at the Enugu Government House, Chime who returnedlast Friday after spending 140 days abroad saidhe used his long vacation to attend to his health.
This is contrary to claims by his media aides that he is hale and hearty. Throughout Chime’s absence, his information commissioner, Chuks Ugwuoke debunked several reports on the Governor’s illness.
However, speaking extensively on his journey abroad, Chime said: “In August last year, I was privileged to be one of those nominated by theNigeria Governors’ Forum to go to Germany to study their federalism, I was to represent the south east zone; I had to use the opportunity f the trip to pass through London to do my medicals since it was the only opportunity I had to do that. After my medicals, I was certified feat by the doctors, but I noticed that I had a little growth beneath my jaw. Ordinarily, nobody could see it but I felt it seriously and asked the doctors to further investigation on it.
“I was later referred to a GP who after examining me said there was nothing wrong with me. I still asked for further investigation. I even made arrangement with them to help me set appointment for closer investigation. I left for Germany and had to still return to London to keep the appointment for proper screening of the growth. It was after the screening that it was discovered that the growth in question was cancerous. It was also discovered that the main tumour was behind my nose; it was simply called cancer of the nose.
“Cancer is such thing that when you hear it, theperson involved will even declare himself deadinstantly. I was subjected to further scanning at the nose and neck and was told that it was curable, not manageable. When I asked how to go about it, I was told it has to be as early as possible before it spreads to other areas. Accordingly I arranged for it to be done. I had to cancel further trips and agreed to be back to London in two weeks. Within the period, I came back to Nigeria and made arrangement for transmission. I wrote a letter to the speaker, informing him of my decision to proceed on leave and sought his cooperation to work with my deputy who will act as governor. We even held two executive council meetings within the period where I informed members of my exco that I was proceeding on a long vacation.
“I left for Abuja the next day and attended the Governors’ Forum meeting and the next day I left for London, settled in and saw the oncologist the next day. By Monday, I commenced treatment. Cancer is a deadly disease and the cure is also deadly. Its not like panadol, not drugs we buy off the counter. You go through different stages. The treatment altogether lasted for 12 weeks and throughoutthe treatment, I was an out-patient. I was never admitted in any hospital in London. During the period of the treatment, I had challenges and these are challenges I will not even wish my enemy to go through; it’s not easy to imagine.
“When I read in the papers that I had died in India, it was a source of entertainment; each time we wanted to laugh, we looked for Nigeria papers online but what became worrisome, was the deliberate and sustained attempt to undermine the government of Enugu state. If you’ve been following events, over the years, we’ve invested a lot on infrastructure but I’ve always said that one thing I would like to leave behind is a workable system. When we came in, there was no system in place and I felt there was indeed to build one in order to encourage continuity. This was therefore an opportunity to test the system we had put in place. You must have observed that we have something resembling a system in place now. While I was away, the government kept on functioning, everything kept on moving as if I was around. Nobody talked about strike over non-payment of salaries, no contractor complained that he was not paid. We even had increased activities in my absence.
“I can beat my chest that the Deputy Governor who led the team indeed ensure that the system worked in my absence. I’m happy we’ve almost reached that height, it gladdenedmy heart. Of course, we were in close contact and we didn’t have problems inspite of attempts by some of our brothers and sisters who live in the Diaspora to undermine the system and were publishing all sorts of nonsense. Our local media even joined in spreading the falsehood but in a nutshell, the Enugu state government under my administration has come to stay. The treatment ended on December 14 and the period of recovery commenced. “I was asked tostay away from office for six months but by late January when we went to review my state, they were shocked with my recovery rate which showed that the tumour had gone. I wasalmost declared cancer free. I will be required to be going there from time to time, but I can assure you that they succeeded in curing the disease.
“I can tell you that I was officially discharged that’s why I had to return. I’m still in the process of recovery and as such you don’t expect me to running tomorrow but I’m free toresume duties to ensure that activities are running on full speed.
“Let me also make it clear that when I was leaving for London, I left a healthy man. I voluntarily submitted myself to have the tumour removed. To further buttress this point,I left the shores of this country without a single aide. Most times, cancer kills because of late discovery; it’s curable. Anybody that discovers that he has cancer should go and treat it and not allow the opinions of people todissuade him or her.
“The people that ought to know about my predicament actually knew. Let me make it clear to you that there is hardly any public officer that travels out on vacation only to go and rest. Most of them go out to attend to health challenges. I didn’t travel sick, it was a tumour. I wasn’t grounded. I decided to nip it in the bud. I actually chose that period to do it because that was the only window of opportunity that I had. That was the first time Iwas spending four months together outside Enugu since maybe after the war. It was never an emergency and it can never be likened to that of Yar’Adua. While Yar’Adua traveled out sick, I traveled out a healthy man and let me also tell you that the attacks started about two weeks after I left”.

Gbawe, let's just assume and take it off the table that he did not say that [ He obviously did] The fact that he left his people for so many months without saying a word to them as if he owed them nothing like this report suggested was very arrogant and even way more arrogant than what this article attributed to him..

This man should have resigned a long time ago, he is too sick and he shouldn't be hanging on to power by any means necessary. Let him bow out and go see about his health and well being.

No mind them.in as much I wish him quick recovery, cancer no they go easily like that. he should learn from the Catholic Pope.
power and failing health.don't go together. It is either you drop or lose power for the sake of your health or you lose your health totally and retain your power which will eventually be controlled by someone else in due time. he just need to manage himself more to avoid re ocurrence.
besides, where on earth did Sahara reporters always get their fake stories and make ups when the man was not around saying he is clinically dead ?.he has heart disease and So on? they are just attention seekers,I guess.

When reporting, some parts of the interview are paraphrased while some others are quoted verbatim.. The fact that he wasn't quoted verbatim (but paraphrased as was done above) doesn't mean he didn't say those words. If every single word he said were to be quoted verbatim, I wonder how many pages the report would occupy..

I doubt if a reputable Media outfit such as Channels tv would "manufacture" spurious words and credit them to A Governor..

The paraphrasing zqs criminally done and whoever was responsible for that deserves to be shot. How does been happy that one's illness was not in public domain the same as owing no one an apology. Some of us need to go back to school or need to be arrested for being mischievous.

We don't need to argue further. You have doubts, I have a strong belief that the governor cannot be that arrogant or say that. I do not know the man aside what I hear and read and it majorly points that he isn't arrogant. I know a governor, infact governors who if it is reported they said such, I will accept. But Chime couldn't have said that.

Madam you just spoilt ur argument with the highlighted!! You also exposed your limited comprehension ability. My statement which you highlighted simply means:

I DO NOT THINK CHANNELS TV LIED ABOUT THE STATEMENT CREDITED TO THE GOVERNOR..

You claim you only know the man based on what you hear and read. Now a reputable media outfit (a source of knowledge to you in the past) has credited a statement to the man, and you're denying. It means you only choose to believe whatever suits your already formed opinion of the Man. So even if you were shown a video of the man saying those exact words you'd still deny since you've already formed an unchangeable opinion of the man..

Isn't it obvious then that your "belief" is baseless and inconsistent??
