I will encourage you to read the Holy bible always because it is given to us in the first place simply to invite us to make ourselves at home in the world of God and to become familiar with the way He speaks and the way in which we answer Him with our lives. The more you read the bible, the more you will understand yourself and this God who created you.
so read it - it has purifying power
read it - it keeps you from error and sin
read it - it is food for your soul
read it - it is a guide for your feet
read it - it has converting power

Allow the lord to always lead you, to order your footsteps no matter the situation you find yourself. Never allow feeling and emotions dictate your direction. if you do, you can be a christian but you will be one controlled by satanic devices.
Remember life is a warfare, it is not fun and game and only the serious minded will be victorious.
So never see your battle as a personal challenge but see it as one against your creator because if the lord leads you to a place of battle, you will defeat your enemy just as David did!
