A pastor is among the kidnap suspects in Anambra, South East Nigeria.
A joint team of operatives of the State Security Service, SSS, and the Nigerian Army have rescued three kidnap victims from a shrine in Anambra.
The Director of SSS in Anambra, Alexander Okeiyi, said this at a news briefing in Awka on Friday.
He said the victims, who were chained, were rescued in the shrine located in a forest in Umuobi Village, Awkuzu in Oyi Local Government Area.
Mr. Okeiyi said the victims were rescued from the hideout of the kidnappers. The kidnappers were led by Ifeanyi Nwaezeaga, a prophet operating the ‘Unchangeable God Miracle Church’ beside the shrine.
Those rescued, he said, were Solomon Okonkwo, 33; Monday Osagie, 50; and Udenwa Ikedibe, 41.
The director said the kidnappers had demanded from their families the sums of N20 million, N50 million and N10 million respectively for their release.
“Mr. Amaechi Oraekie, 35, from Awkuzu in Oyi local council area, who was allegedly taken to the shrine by his family members for elimination over land dispute, was also rescued.
“Preliminary investigation showed that the gang was responsible for the kidnap of Rev. James Achugbu of St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Umunachi in Dunukofia on February 2,” he added.
Mr. Okeiyi said a Nissan Sunny car with registration number AV 112 AWK belonging to another victim, Princewill Abian, who was released on February 20, after payment of N100,000 ransom, was recovered.
He said other items recovered were the prophet’s Nissan Jeep with registration number HAL 284 AA, four motorcycles, one generator, one Dane gun and an international passport of suspected kidnap victim.
Mr. Okeiyi further said that seven suspects, comprising five male and two female, tending to the kidnap victims were arrested during the rescue operation.
He attributed the feat to the cordial working relationship among the various security apparatuses and commended Governor Peter Obi for his commitment to rid the state of criminal activities.

Kudos to the SSS and the Army!!

Their involvement shows how inept the Nigerian Police has become. Instead of getting to the root of kidnap cases, they kill the suspects extra-judicially (with state approval) and dump their bodies in Ezu River.

I hope this case is‎ thoroughly investigate and all who are found culpable, thoroughly dealt with..

Kidnapping is the biggest threat in Igboland today. If it continues unabated, prospective investors will be scared away to other parts of Nigeria. We must change the way we view ourselves, or else Igboland will be taken a decade backward.

If cinvicted let them face the firing squad at once,no need of keeping them in jail.Just for a lesson to the intending ones. Capital punishment is best for them.
