vision2050: Are they christain? During the time of Moses nothing like christanity the served GOD.......... Let it ring in your brain when Christ came that is when christainity came to existence. Abegi. How this one take concern PAGAN? Nigerians enjoy freedom of worship. Sharia can't even threaten that, even in Sharia states. |

justwise: The poster surely has complex, wearing african attire doesn't make u more african than those not wearing it.u shuld wear whatever makes u happy not bcuz its refered to as african Culture and tradition evolves ,back then b4 the euroPeans came it wuz leaves and animal skin that was en vogue and the people as of that times decided to dispose those things when they saw better ways of dressing ,which was a gud idea .in this case will u say that they have forsaken their culture ? The cloths we even call traditional attire are not even related to african in any way .if u studied history u will understand me better. Those fabrics are imported from asia ,its their concept, idea, fabric etc. The whites came to africa and left with tangible things to build their economy ,it doesn't change anything and doesn't mean that they fail to represent.lastly jean and t shirt is not oyibo wears or english wears ,they are modern global wears. Go to china, japan, mexico, chile etc u will see it everywhere in the world .u don't need to prove anything to anybody ,just merely looking at u they know u are african. So what the heck. |

Did i miss my way? I saw "why are corpers promiscous" on the frontpage and i clicked only to see something different. @OP You're right on point. I don't know why you will call yourself a Nigeria or African and not represent where you come from. It has to be reflected in your dressing, the way you talk, your accent etc. That's the only way you can be separated from the crowd/ |

ckkris: ITS CALLED AN ACCENT FOR A REASON!!! ACCENTS is the manner or way people speak. Because people have different accents, there is No "right" way to pronounce something.. Just as the Nigerians have their accents, so those the Ghanaians, and the Americans. Why else do Ghanaians pronounce "come" as "cam"? its because of their Accent. You go tell those Ghanaians that they are pronouncing it wrong. Sorry if I am offending you by sounding angry, but stupidity irritates me. |

PAGAN 9JA: U are right christianity is not an african religion. But u shuldnt say bcuz its not an african religion u are not going to practice it .people shuld choose their path ,cus its their decision U have chosen yurs as a pagan gud for u ,I have chosen mine agnosticism gud for me ,let them choose theirs be it islam or christianity ,hinduism or budhuism. It doesn't matter the religion or belief ,we shuld tolerate one another and live peacefully without chaos 2 Likes |
Re: Is Wearing Western Clothing Forsaking Your Culture? by ckkris: 9:27pm On Mar 03, 2013 |
PAGAN 9JA: Odinani simply means tradition, not religion. And Odinani is constantly IMPROVING. If you must know, the foundational belief of the Ibos is Offor, which is Justice or Equity. Any teaching or religion that doesn't conform to Justice will be a hard sell in Igboland. And no one defends Offor, as it must vindicate whoever is right. You can now see why Christianity is thriving indigenously in Igboland. |

Dipwater: 1) I have not choosen to be Pagan. i was born one. If you are tribal and you carry the name of your tribe , then you must confirm to its beliefs and customs. If you dont wish to, then stop calling yourself Igbo or Yoruba or whatever. 2) I do not tolerate religions that d o not tolerate mine, have caused so much harm for us over the past years and continue to do so, they brand our Gods as devils and they preach the breaking of our places of worship and the destruction ofo ur identities and cultures. I disrespect such religions and i will FIGHT them. i do not disrespect atheists because they do not harm us. but xtians and muslims, its time you start counting your last days in 9JA. |

ckkris: ODINANI IS PAGAN RELIGION. STOP TRYING TO SIDETACK OUR BELIEFS! YOU DONT NEED TO TEACH ABOUT MY RELIGIONS. LIKE ALL TRIBAL RELIGIONS, ODINANI IS MIXD WITH IGBO CULTURAL PRACTICES! THEREFORE IT IS THE DUTY OF IGBOS TO PRACTICE BOTH! what justice does christianity offer molesting kids? worshipping israeli man? collecting extortion money from poor ppl as tithes? to hell with this! |

Dipwater:Why would anyone want to be a nonentity? Go and ask the owners of Microsoft, oracle, Apple, Blackberry why they different from the crowd. Who doesn't want to be known for something unique. Like the OP said, he was asked by some Americans where he came from because he was different. If he had adorned an American outfit, i don't think anyone would have even noticed him talkless of talking to him. |

Re: Is Wearing Western Clothing Forsaking Your Culture? by tpia5: 9:36pm On Mar 03, 2013 |
why is pagan9ja going around trying to dictate to people which gods they should worship? he's an outsider and foreigner to any tribe besides the one he claims, and as such has no right to "choose" religions for others or pokenose in other tribes' religions in the manner he's doing [like the whites and arabs he works for]. That's a big taboo, and he needs to know his place. the babalawos he patronises should be warned to steer clear of him, he's a foreigner. let him go and preach to his own alleged people, why disturbing us here. |

This thread went from White Folks' Wear to White Folks' Religion. To Afameva...that is like saying Africans who lives in other countries outside of Africa aren't representing their countries. No one determine who YOU ARE but YOU. It has nothing to do with clothing, speech, food, and etc. Just because a person wear a kufi doesn't make them an African. Let be real. |
Re: Is Wearing Western Clothing Forsaking Your Culture? by Afam4eva(m): 9:42pm On Mar 03, 2013 |
ckkris:Tell me why American pronounce and even spell some English words different from the British. Same with the Australians. The kiwis and the canadians. There's no right way to pronounce an English word because English is revolutionary except we're to stick with the british english and why should we stick to the british english when it's a product of a Germanic language. Everyone should English the way they understand and with whatever accent that their tongue allows them to speak. |

Mrs.Chima:You're right. But as Africans it's our duty to sell ourselves to the outside world and this does not just apply to those outside Africa. Nigerians in Ghana and Cameroon should also represent where they come from. Igbos in Kaduna or Ibadan should also represent where they come from. |

ighoosagie: Basically, am from southern Nigeria; Edo state to be precise and I base in las vegas ( home of casinos ) in the United State of America. Every Sunday while in church on my native attires I look so different from others base on my dressing code, many times it's kind of draw so much attentions which before now was kind of like making me feel so nervous and uncomfortable especially when some white folks come around to ask me were I come from based on my outfits, I tell them from Nigeria "o that oil rich country" they reply and out of curiosity I ask them why re they asking me where am from, they reply ur dressing look odd. I just tell them no I don't look odd rather I look unique and as an African I need to dress like a royalty , also I remind them that we African have our own ways in which we live and that I stand on, though I wear normal casual most often. The truth of the matter is that you have come here to display your inferiority complex! It's either you just got to the US and wanna inform Nairalanders or the spirit of inferiority complex has taken over your mind completely!!! Go to some cities in Canada or Russia where temperature is around -40degree or more and wear that your native attire because you wanna feel Nigerian and see if cold would not freeze your liver for you. Your dress has nothing to do with the state of your mind...inferiority complex or superior complex has nothing to do with suit and tie or gele and buba.....pls note that. 1 Like |
