olasesi: You would see from my comment on the other thread that I was rooting for the child's survival cos I thought it was a tumour. But on reading about the condition on this thread and seeing that she's practically brain damged. I don't know what they can possibly do to correct the condition, surgery is out of it cos it would involve draining the CSF and that's death. ifedun2: Its really a shame that our doctors have little or no knowledge about this health condition.Just pray a solution will surface.Really pity the infant.Where was it said in the report that Doctors have little knowledge about the condition? I have seen nothing less than 20 of such cases so far,,,,,management of the condition however needs experts and hi-tech diagnostic equipments that are mostly available only in teaching hospitals and that was why they where referred to zaria. The specialist on such cases that is within Sokoto state is well renowned unfortunately, he is now the CMD of the National Hospital Abuja. |

I remembered when my late son was admitted at LUTH, the women next to me at the ward had a baby with a similar condition. Even after the baby underwent surgery, she died few days later. so so sad! |

i think this is very sad and the baby should have been allowed to be born. i dont mean to sound terrible but there is no point bringing this baby to this workd to make her suffer. whats the essence of all the scan and check up pregnant women do at pregnancy stage. it could have been that it was not available to the mother but this is sad...May it not happen to anyone of us...now the baby will face the trauma's of surgeries after carrying her about for months soliciting for funds and i just pray that God heals her. im bitter about it because just yesterday i watched a documentary on CNN where a surrogate mum was offered money to abort a deformed baby and she refused...gave birth to the baby and the baby is suffering and just struggling to live."she knew before she gave birth, was advised to abort but refused now the baby's health is at risk.....Little Girl, May God show up and heal you in Jesus Name........Amen |

What a sad situation. Whether the child is euthanised or not tough times lies ahead for the poor parents. Its better to let the poor child return quietly to her creator than to subject her to a short life of disablilty. So sad. 1 Like |

Encephalocele-herniation of brain and meninges through a defect in the skull is probably what the baby has. It requires surgery to correct and depending on the severity can be fatal and unable to be corrected. |
