How To Discover Your Purpose (part 4) by SonofIssachar: 12:37am On Mar 10, 2013
Then the Lord turned to him and said, “Go in this might of yours, and you shall save Israel from the hand of the Midianites. Have I not sent you?” - Judges 6:12-14

Note that it was Gideon the angel addressed, not the whole Israelites. But, because of the people-centredness of purpose, Gideon naturally looked beyond himself and started venting about the social issue troubling his mind. He probably did not know when he started to say “us” in his emotion-laden response. In the passage, he mentioned “us” six times and at no time did he say “I!”

Purpose is people-centred and others-focused. That social problem you are so consumed with may be the guide to identifying your assignment.

Your purpose is defined by what you are willing to go out of your way to do for others, at personal costs to yourself and no cost to the recipients. It is rooted in that thing that agitates you so much or makes you uncomfortable about people, your environment or the system, which you would like fixed once for all.

If your agitation is about what you can do to improve your personal lot; that is a legitimate aspiration. But it is not your purpose. Your purpose is usually derived from what you can do for others, the society or a system to make them better.

That phenomenon that makes you go ballistic and wishing something definite could be done about it right there and then is an indicator of your life mission. And rather than look far away for the solution, the Lord is telling you now what He told Gideon then, “Go in this your drive, champion the change and make the necessary difference. Have I not sent you?”

Now that you know what the LORD has sent you to do, aren’t you going to do it?

You will succeed in Jesus Name!
