Hi,

I have been a slient follower and resheduled my interview because from the threads that I read I knew I was not ready. Now am upto date with all manner of documents. My interview is next week

Am a lawyer, (called to bar 2011) praticed for a year before I went into banking last year(HR department) I got admission for masters in Human resource management in Troy university Alabama(vet the school please).

My GRE is ridiculously low(274) and it was waived by d school sue to working experince. Do you advise I show my embarrassing score to the VO or say it was waived with a cover letter from the school.

then my uncle wil sponsor mi and I intend going with his coy bank statement . Do I need the copy of a supossed coy minute whEre an ordinary resolution was passed for the coy to sponsor me.

I saw something about court/affadivit of a sponsor. Please throw more light on it.

You guys are doing great job.

Interview took less than 2 mins, no agent used, no documents asked though I even took my Local Government certificate of origin as proof of home ties.

To God be the glory and to Nairaland be the three gbosas. Thank you all for taking the time out to share your tips and experiences. I've been a silent reader, only popping in to ask crucial questions. If my experience was anything to go by, you guys are on point.

Question: I wasn't given back my i-20, please tell me this is standard procedure and it will come with my passport

Congratulations brother! You did great.

First bolded...grin grin. Yea I can imagine. You were trying to bone like they denied you but you couldn't contain the immense joy within you so you burst out smiling again. grin

Second bolded...I like that! What those agents can do one can equally do it for one's self.

bigfrancis21:

First off, what course is written on your I-20? If its the same Business Administration and Management as you wrote above, then mention a field within the BAM. If you have another course written in your I-20 or your I-20 states that you'll be doing something else but majoring in business administration and management, then mention it just as it is on your I-20. Please go exactly with what's stated on your I-20. Cheers!

@Bigfrancis thanks alot. I have Business Administration & Management written on my i-20.

And also, I will be taking different course modules in my school like,

Principles of Management
Principles of International Business
Business finance
Entrepreneurship
Business policy and strategy
General Management. E.t.c

So when the Vo ask me what is your area of Specialisation, will it be cool to Mention Management, OR I just probable tell him that my area of Specialisation is Business Administration & Management..

I have a feeling that Your Course of Study is different from Your area of Specialisation..

This VOs have ways of twisting questions.. Just to get ur head rolling on da ground...

My interview experience......

Got to the embassy some minutes to 7, forgot to drop my phone with my brother so i had to go back looking for him and that took sometime. Finally got back for the security check and all other stuffs. Got in after all the rigorous checks and had to sit and wait for my ticket number to show up. Let me quickly add that i had Sanyeri sitting right beside me and we chatted till my number showed on the screen grin grin, he's a cool guy...

Was interviewed by the Nigerian woman in Window 5, she was asking lots of questions from applicants but would issue visa if you answer well. After placing my fingers for the prints,

VO: Where is your school in the US
Me: Minnesota
VO: When did you finish high school?.
Me: 2005 (i already planned to add my diploma program to fill up the space, but something told me not to)
VO: And what have you been doing since then?.
Me: I obtained a diploma in business and commercial law at University of Jos in 2009(and then stopped again)
VO: And what else?.
Me: I then joined (named my brother's company) in 2010 and work there as the Logistics Analyst.
VO: Did you take any standardized test?.
Me: Yes i took the TOEFL test and the SAT exams
VO: What was your SAT score
Me: I boldly told her, 1270 [s](I know i fumbled in the exam 'coz i wasn't so chanced to read for it, but i said it with confidence)[/s]
VO: Why do you need a degree in Business Administration?
Me: I have a basic legal understanding of business and will like to add on new skills for effective operations and distribution strategy so as to advance professionally here in Nigeria...(Yvete, God bless you for this grin)
VO: Do you have your WAEC result here?.
Me: Yes
VO: Can i see it?
Me: I gave her and then she asked for the online printout, told her i didn't bother printing it out online again since i have the originals.
VO: Tell me the names of the schools you applied to
Me: Minnesota State Uni, Arizona State Uni, Murray State Uni, Georgia State Uni
VO: Why didn't you apply to any Nigerian University?
Me: No reason, i just didn't apply to any because i already got admissions in the US
VO: Who's sponsoring you?
Me: My brother
VO: What does he do?
Me: He's into telecommunications and a trade partner with MTN Nigeria and Globacom Nigeria(quickly explained what exactly he does for both company)
VO: Checks through her system(i guess she was looking at my ds160) and asked, so you work for your brother right?.
Me: Yes, i do
VO: Do you have any relative in the US?
Me: No, i don't.
VO: Okay, if you feel you are been treated against your rights in the US then you'll need the info on this handbill. Hands me the pick up paper, retained my passport and told me to pick on thursday.
Me: Thank you very much Ma and have a nice day ahead.

Notes:- The only thing she asked to see was my waec certificate. She didn't check my admission letter, statement of account, letter of sponsorship or my not so good SAT score report. cheesy

To all prospective applicants, please pray very well ooo. I prayed like tomorrow wasn't gonna come, fasted for almost 21 days prior to my interview and didn't blink my eye all through yesterday night. All i was praying to God to give me was his favor and a sweet testimony.

While you are waiting for your number on the screen, calm your spirit and just keep thanking God in advance.

I pray everyone else gets their visa approved in Jesus name.

God bless Imperiouxx, Yvete, GboyegaD, OjaP, Kpolli, Lisadem, Seunbunmi, Babsharon, and everyone else on the thread that i can't remember to mention now...

You print online receipt after 3 days of payment via western union so just pay $200 and print online receipt

@Bolded...grin grin. I like that. That shows you got credibility.

I guess you won't be chanced to rewrite your GRE given your job demands. Its fine. Go with it. If asked present it to them but mention that your school did not require it because of your work experience but you still went ahead and registered for the exam and took it. (This will tip off a good note for you to the VO that despite the fact that your school didn't require it you still went ahead to write it.wink). You can also use this statement in case she asks why your scores are low. You'll just say what I just said and also add that your job demands did not allow you time to prepare sufficiently for the exam.

Go with any document (company's minute) to show that your uncle's company is registered. It might come in handy. You never can tell.

As for the bank statement thing, you're going with a company's bank statement. I hope 'company sponsorship' is what's written on your I-20, not family funds/sponsorship? Because it has to tally. You cannot go to the embassy with a company statement when your I-20 reads family funds. You'll get denied. Someone here got denied last month because of it, what the VOs call inconsistency. So for the sake of consistency, ensure that the statement you're going with tallies with what's written on your I-20.

As an undergraduate student you won't be majoring in any specialty yet until your 300 level (3/4). For first and second year you will be doing general courses in your field until third or final year where you'll get to choose your major. So to answer your question, just pick out any of the above-mentioned fields you wrote as your major. This question is only to ascertain your intent for studying, nothing more. To know if you know what you're doing. If I were you, I'd pick Business Finance as my major. #JustMyPreferenceThough

I'm considering applying for a masters program in petroleum engineering. Can anyone advice me on the schools to apply to that have solid post graduation job prospects in the U.S for international students. I am potentially applying to TAMU, Uoklahoma then Texas Tech and LSU(as my safety schools). Are there other schools or states I should be looking at? I have a bachelors in mech engineering (3.43/5) FUTMX, and 1 year work experience as an engineer. My GRE comes up later this month but i'm confident of scoring over 300( scored around that in a power prep timed diagnostic). I fear my cgpa may be too low for TAMU so i'm considering replacing it with another safety school. Your anticipated comments are highly appreciated. Thanks.

Its a big fat lie! Those agents are trying to deceive you into patronizing them maybe because they feel you're gullible (or pliable). Ignore them please. Those agents have NO, I mean NO, exclusive rights to interview dates over the average joe like you and me. Just the way they wait for dates to come out and book for interview for their customers that's the way I and others also wait to book our dates. And dates came out and we booked. Biko, ignore them.

Dates WILL definitely come up. You just have to keep chexking back. Also keep checking back here on this thread because members do post when available dates are released.

The reason dates seem to be a scarce commodity now is that this period is the peak period for student visas. Fall semester is at hand and its usually the first and main semester in the US academic year. Some schools and programs don't even accept spring applications, only fall. The number of students applying is very high so the rush is much that's why once dates come out they are quickly taken. If you doubt me try booking for a date in, say, march, april, may. In fact na you go dey do tumbom tumbom for which date you go choose cos dates go plenty dt time.

Dates only appear one month ahead of the date you're booking. Meaning if a date should show now now today being july 8, it will be from august 8 and above. Not before. If a date comes out tomorrow july 9, it will be august 9 and above. So just be patient. You'll see dates.

I hope its clear?

Not one month. Its usually 6 months statement or 3 months statement as demanded by different schools. Never seen 1 month before. You should check your school's website. You'll see either 3 or 6 months written on it.

xtus: @ bros imperiouxx and all in the house, can anyone kindly put me through by throwing more light to me about the state of new mexico, i wanna know more about the state, job availability and how safe is the state.

NM - State of Enchantment is good for studying. There are lot of mining, agriculture and diaries around here. Beside that, you'll need to move to states where your field is lucrative after graduating.

Weather can be as cold as hell in winter (lowest from -13 to -20 degree C depending on the elevation of your location) and as hot as same hell in summer (normal like outside right now is 34 and highest around 42 degree C depending on elevation) and highest wind speed (with crazy noise) around 80 - 90 kph like the one from hell.

Jobs are there in the major cities but that still depend on your field and competition with lots of Hispanics and Mexicans. Cost of living is reasonable.

No much disasters but wild fire happens sometimes. Licenses are easy to get (even easy for illegal Mexicans), crime is low......What more?

People here are mostly Hispanic white with very low black population.... they don't bite anyway grin so they are friendly.
