500 foreigners in Lagos

By IFEANYI OKOLI
No fewer than, 500 nationals of some neighbouring countries resident in Lagos, were yesterday arrested by the state police command in connection with Thursday’s arrest of two Boko Haram suspects at Ijora area of the state.

Saturday Vanguard gathered that the arrests which was coordinated by operatives of the State Intelligence Bureau,SIB, and police divisions across the state, were carried out during raids of several locations in the state.

A video grab made on March 21, 2013 from a video distributed to reporters by purported intermediaries of the Islamist group linked to Al-Qaeda, Boko Haram, shows the suspected leader of the Nigerian Islamist group linked to Al-Qaeda, Boko Haram, Imam Abu Muhammad Ibn Muhammad Abubakar Ash Shekawi, also known as Abubakar Shekau, at an undisclosed location in Nigeria. AFP
Some of those arrested, according to eyewitness included women and young children.
But sources at the command said that the raid was reportedly ordered by the state Police Commissioner, Umar Manko, who asked his men to fish out suspected Boko Haram infiltrators into the state.

According to the police sources those arrested were detained at the Police Command’s Headquarters, Ikeja, where they were rigorously interrogated, documented and vetted.
Most of the arrested were later discovered to be Chadians, Nigeriens and Malians who had no proper documentation to stay in the country.

”We are waiting for the CP’s order on what to do with the foreign nationals who do not have any business Lagos” the source stated.

The National Vice Chairman, Arewa Youth Development Association of Nigerian, Shuaibu Dansudu, who was at the command headquarters, to secure the release of some Hausa residents of Oke-Odo Market, Ile-Epo and Oja commended the police for making efforts at ensuring that members of the deadly Boko Haram sect do not infiltrate the state.
Dansudu however, asked the Federal Government to do all it can to ensure that the sect’s insurgency was put to an end.

”Government needs to do all it can to ensure peace in all parts of the country even if it requires granting them amnesty. We can not continue to live like this,” he pleaded
Meanwhile, residents of Oyegbemi Street, at Ijora 7up area of the state where two Boko Haram suspects were arrested have commended the security agencies for apprehending the suspects.

Oluwa Idowu, a resident whose uncompleted building is situated next to the area where one of the suspects was arrested, urged landlords in the state to properly vet their would-be tenants before letting their apartments to them.

”I was shocked when I heard the news but I am not familiar with the man because he just moved in three months ago. But I am grateful to God that he was arrested before he succeed in carrying out his plans. But this issue is an eye opener to landlords and home owners in this state.

We must be wary and properly vet people we rent our apartments to; so we do not fall victims to evil.

By doing so, we will assist the security agents in discharging their jobs,” She stated.

We are talking of how to quell the ugly monster Boko haram.

Your Solution will make him Boko Haram sympathiser rather than dissuade
his own boys from taking up arms for Boko Boys.

Most terrorist activities in any country are being carried out by foreigners. Nigeria inclusive.

Solution:

1. The government has to embark on general data system where every Nigerian can be identified.

2. Nigeria Immigration service should start mssive deportation of undocumented alliens back to their countries.

3. Some staff of the Nigeria Immigration should stop being sympathetic to illegal alliens due to their ethnic or religious affliation.

4. Report any suspicious persons or activities to security agents. COMMUNITY POLICING!

Until these are done, bombs will soon be going off like Christmas day fireworks.

Lagos is the commercial nerve of Nigeria. If Boko Haram starts setting of bombs in Lagos, the consequence will be better imagined.

I support the move by the security services to round up illegal and aliens especially from Chad, Mali, Libya, Niger, and Northern Cameroon. They should be adequately interrogated and deported if their stories are not convincing. They should also consider using some of them as double agents to infiltrate the terrorists ranks and files.

I however join well meaning Nigerians in saying:
#NO TO AMNESTY FOR TERRORISTS

Weapons of mass destruction are
in plentiful supply around us. The
lust of the flesh and the lust of the
eyes and the pride of life are
coming non-stop all in an effort to
destroy us. And what do we do?
Absolutely everything we can to tell
God to go back to where He came
from. And then get mad that our
world is turning into hell?
God makes an “allowance” and lets
us go on our way to a pig pit of
living outside of His domain and in
that pig pit is: “Breaking News” that
should be causing us all to come to
our senses, to wake-up and
remember that Jesus said, “in My
Father’s house.”

I have said this before and will say it again. The problem with Nigeria is bad statistics. Without good statistics, you can't have good governance! But cus some dimwits wanna inflate election figures, they deny us the proper account of ppl in each state. How does the education minister know how to supply school needs when he does not know the number of schools there is, how much more the number of students in Nigeria. There should be proper identification of ppl in different data base. Pls take out all the stolen money from foreign accounts and create a real data base of Nigeria for Nigerians. That way, no one hides under 'facelessness to perpetrate evil. Shallom!

”Government needs to do all it can to ensure peace in all parts of the country even if it requires granting them amnesty. We can not continue to live like this,” he pleaded

It's funny that this is the only solution being profered by Boko men these days. So according to them the only solution is to grant them amnesty? Will that not be grand injustice to all the petty thieves and criminals locked up in various prisons across the nation? What has Rev King for instance done that Boko men have not done? Amnesty my foot.

Granting them amnesty will be equal to legalising anarchy across the country. When it was done to Militants many warned but the govt failed to listen, afterwards anarchy shifted base from South-South to North. The South-West and South-East will be watching and once the norths gets their own cut of the "national cake" we will all understand that Federal Character also applies to Amnesty.
