I already explained the meaning of the quote to you. Intelligent people should be able to discern that. |

bittyend: Bwahaahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! Are you a comedian? So being able to pronounce 2 words suddenly makes you a master of the English language? Even this last statement is catastrophic! Good English is about proper grammer and tenses and proper use of words. The average briton can't even speak good English. They mostly speak vernacular. The following phrase from you is an example of terrible construction of sentences "Imagine this low IQ having ape from naija" 1 Like |

thelastPope: That's rich, coming someone who's obviously allergic to using punctuation marks. You're still a learner. And what is 'grammer', by the way? Grammar is the right spelling. You're not on my level, go play somewhere else. 3 Likes |

Ikengawo: 'The English Language'? Are you serious? You are a comedian, I'll leave you with your half baked and backward American English. And is that how they ask a question in your village? 'Awo free computer'?? |

Ikengawo: Record it on your phone and attach it to your post. I want to laugh at your bummy Igbotic American accent and enunciation. |

bittyend: Gosh, why am I even bothering with these two monkeys with blinkered brains?Lowercase igbotic because it's a descriptive word (though it's not a word in the english language) Lowercase G on God since you're referencing one of many and thus not thee God, and it's descriptive. |

It's really pathetic that somebody believes pronunciation and accent is a mark of intelligence as well. There are many retarded English children whom can pronounce the word perfectly... are they more intelligent than Wole Soyinka whom has an accent? |

^^^The dunderhead couldn't even show us where Yoruba was insulted in Achebe's book. whoever brought him to nairaland must be running a circus cos he is nothing but a clown! |

Ikengawo: It's really pathetic that somebody believes pronunciation and accent is a mark of intelligence as well. There are many retarded English children whom can pronounce the word perfectly... are they more intelligent than Wole Soyinka whom has an accent? This has to be the worst display of the use of English ever! What the hell is this gibberish? Is this how you speak as well? Poorly constructed sentences... and who still uses 'whom' in this day and age? Archaic words and the poorly constructed sentences! Don't ever quote me again!! We're not on the same level!! You're nothing but an uneducated troll! |

bittyend: Whom Whom Whom Whom Whom Whom Whom Whom Whom Whom Whom Whom Whom Dear bittyend, I am not really concerned about your spelling and even punctuations. When people discuss on a public forum, they can make a lot of typing and spelling mistakes. That is expected. What shouldn't happen though is that they should not use the wrong tenses or construct. That is why I called you out. Your English, right from your first post is pathetic. You should edit your posts. That being said, back to topic. You still haven't shown where Yorubas were insulted in Achebe's book, "There was a country". Please show us or forever hold your peace. |
Re: Did Achebe Actually Insult The Yorubas? by bittyend(m): 8:42am On Mar 24, 2013 |
thelastPope: Point out where I used the wrong tenses. Stop trying to justify your inability to use punctuation marks and your ridiculous spelling skills. Perhaps you thought I was one of those clowns you could hoodwink by referencing your not-so-great use of English, no? I'm way above your league. I don't even proof read everything I post on here, but I still write better English than you, even on my worst day. You're worse than a clown. |
Re: Did Achebe Actually Insult The Yorubas? by thelastPope(m): 8:48am On Mar 24, 2013 |
bittyend: You posted this: bittyend: The same Achebe also write this under a header titled: A History of Ethnic Tension and Resentment. And this one below which I can't even piece together: bittyend: I am just advising you. No offense. Back to topic. |
Re: Did Achebe Actually Insult The Yorubas? by bittyend(m): 8:53am On Mar 24, 2013 |
thelastPope: After reading the book, There was a country, I couldnt find anywhere Chinua Achebe insulted the Yorubas as alleged. So please can anyone explain where he insulted the Yorubas? Just imagine someone who wrote this trying to critique my use of English. My little sister don't even write like this and she's still in secondary school. Is this Nigerian English or what? After reading the book, There was a country, I couldnt find anywhere Chinua Achebe insulted the Yorubas as alleged. So please can anyone explain where he insulted the Yorubas? ^Who cites other people's works without a quote? This guy didn't even quote the title of Achebe's book. Your written English is ridiculous. And your sentence construction is the worst I have seen on this forum. His account of Awo's involvement in the civil war did not contain anything like insult or ridicule of the Yorubas. It didnt also contain any thing that could make one call Achebe a bigot. Awo made both good and bad decisions in his time as minister. Anyone can comment on those decisions. how does that translate into insulting the Yorubas? It was simply his account of the war which can be debated and someone could come out to fault with better argument. He had a right to his opinions. But I am concerned that after so much shout on this forum, one would have thought he actually insulted the Yorubas, but he didnt. ^Can someone translate the bolded for me? This has to be the worst Nigerian English ever!! Sorry mate, I don't speak Nigerian!! |
Re: Did Achebe Actually Insult The Yorubas? by White007(m): 8:53am On Mar 24, 2013 |
thelastPope: ThelastPope, the dude can show you nada, cuz there's nowhere in the book Achebe insulted the Yoruba's. He is just going off on a tangent. |
Re: Did Achebe Actually Insult The Yorubas? by thelastPope(m): 8:58am On Mar 24, 2013 |
White007: Don't mind him. He is clutching at straws. I have made my point. I am waiting to be faulted. |
Re: Did Achebe Actually Insult The Yorubas? by bittyend(m): 9:01am On Mar 24, 2013 |
thelastPope: So basically because I misspelled 'wrote' as 'write' you went on a tirade about my use of English, when you actually don't understand the basics of the language. You don't even know how to use punctuation marks; you can't spell for shiit; and your sentence construction is one of the worst I have seen on this forum. You write like a typical Nigerian who writes the way he/she speaks with an accent. You're not on my level!! |

bittyend: The same Achebe also wrote this under a header titled: A History of Ethnic Tension and Resentment. An excellent theoritical model for analysing the Nigeria tribal situation. I wish someone can do a PhD thesis on this. I will contribute in raising funds for research work. |

"At a time of universal deceit, speaking the truth becomes a revolutionary act" George Orwell.... Achebe's personal account of the civil war is essential in Afrika's history particularly to show how weak foreign involvement and religion has made us....its a necessary scripture for those who wish to correct things...we learn...not criticize only...he did not insult Yoruba...he just did not do what most Nigerians at the top do by shoving the bitter truth aside "for peace to reign"... But there is no peace without justice, and the first step to justice is honesty, accept our faults and move on. If over 30 years the Yorubas still see the crimes against humanity committed against their brothers in the East as "okay"....the war,its deaths, the symposiums, the books, and the lectures and all that followed are all in vain.... 1 Like |
