I write this piece in response to a thread that seem to suggest that Chinua Achebe made no contribution to the development of Nigeria. During the 1983 election Achebe was the deputy national vice chairman of the people Redemption party. Remember the post election argument between Achebe and Bakin Zuwo Kano state Governor elect.He left politics after the rigged election of 1983, he summarized Nigeria leadership crisis in the statement below

" The Nigeria problem is the Unwillingness or inability of it's leaders to rise to the responsibility and d challenge of personal example which are d hallmarks of True leadership

Anthill of the savannah a novel written by Achebe after he left politics set in a fictitious country ' Kangan 'completely explains d Scam called leadership in Nigeria.Anthill of the savannah was runner up in the Booker man prize for Novel published that year. Going backward No Longer at Ease his second novel portray the rising issue of corruption and celebration of mediocre in the Nigeria state and indeed the society at large.The Novel was set in Lagos,then Nigeria capital city.

Achebe was the founding chairman of the African writer series. A platform that enabled young African writer showcase their culture to the world. Nigerians were not exempted.

Achebe as a mortal man no doubt has his own flaws just like any human being living or dead but to say he contributed nothing to Nigeria quest for greatness is simply wrong, hateful and wicked. The proponents of such axioms are either ignorant or just expressing their hate to the man Achebe n indeed the tribe he hails from.
