u dey call porto(d regular champion of portugal)small team and inter milan?if he is so great make he go win league or champions league 4 teams like wigan, samdoria or even braga.nonsence

No denying that the quality of the players matters but you ca't take out the geniuses of coaches like Mourinho, Ferguson, Hiddink et al
This Chelsea team has enough quality to be challenging the title but they have fallen flat when the stakes are high. With coaches like Mourinho, there's the motivation that makes player put in their best even when losing.
Benitez is clueless for the most part and he shouldn't be allowed near a top tier team again
They are not genius, they are good managers, managing the best teams with the best players all over the world, with money to be able to get any player they want and also keep their best players without sweating of losing them to another team.
I don't think a manager buying ready made articles like Van Persie or Ronaldo's of this world is a genius act, even you can do it. He should go to Malaga and motivate the players that are not sure of their wages each months and lets see how it goes. I can just see how he will motivate Ronaldo and his friend, if they are not paid for a week, not alone months.

Porto is one of Europe elite clubs before and after Mourinho and it was also an unfancied Monaco that beat in the worst European cup finals ever. Don't buy the propaganda. Which team did he coach before he came Porto and how did the team do under him? Have ever ask yourself that?

In the early 2000s, he guided another unfancied team-União de Leiria, to an amazing 5th place finish in the Portuguese league.

Porto and InterMilan were NEVER amongst the favorites to win the UCL in 2004 and 2010. No one can with all sincerity say Porto were amongst the elite European teams in 2004. In 2010, it was considered a shock when Inter eliminated CFC at the Round of 16, let alone defeating Barcelona on the way to the title.

How can you explain Barcelona faltering this season compared to the seasons they have been managed by a certain coach or even the one before him?
You have a point about a good manager having his job made easier with better players but you can't take away from the uniqueness of the coaches as well.

No coach will perform a miracle with a prematurely assembled team like QPR or players who are being denied their wages, that's a totally different ball game

Ok, ask yourself where the same team Uniao De leira finished the season before that? And what makes 5th place amazing? When the likes Real Sociedad has won the Spanish La Liga more than once in the last century with both giants around?
And how did you come to the conclusion that they are unfancied in Portugal?
When was the last time you watch that team play, if ever? Some of you only talk about just the team that are regular on satellite TV.

You are spot on. A tactically deficient coach can ruin a team.
With all the decent players at Inter Milan, why haven't they been able to win the Serie A since Mou's departure?
It's simple, his successors don't have his coaching acumen.

Exactly, Wenger won the French league with Monaco when Marseille was one of the giants of europe, Napoli won the Italian league twice in a roll with Maradona, with the likes of Juve, the Milan giants etc watching.

Maradona was a beast then. Sometimes, great players can almost single-handedly guide their teams to glory. Even some of his 1986 World Cup team mates have said in some interviews that it was Maradona who dragged them to the final.

Neither were Red star Belgrade in 1992 the favourite, when they sweep everybody to win it.
Any coach can win the champions league with good players, seeding, good draws and luck. Even Liverpool too won it recently with mediocre players in majority.

That is exactly what I had been beating about with you all along that any coach is as good as his players and his clubs wallet. Its Maradona's ability and some good players they got that won it , not because the Napoli coach was a genius.

Before, he descend on Chelsea with his magic touch, maybe, he should retain the La Liga first. Cup competition is anybody's on your lucky day, after all Millwall is still in the F.A cup and Malaga still in the champions league. What about Monaco in the champions league final?
That what cup games are about.
Since you can't use just cup competitions to judge a team and going by your words, Barcelona being in the champions league isn't anything special. However, you can't argue their impressive all round records last season both in the league and cup competitions

Remember that 3 weeks ago, Barca fans were craving for the return of either Guardiola or Villanova, they blamed Jordi Roura for their losses to Madrid and AC Milan.

@Kaxmytex: Tottenham have the toughest fixtures.

Chelsea can realistically bag 3 points against Swansea, Sunderland and Tottenham at home.

This is the mistake you people make with Mourinho's propaganda. When he went to Inter, they were at their peak, and had just won things before his arrival, also Inter having inherited the best players from Juventus and Milan, because of their match fixing problems at the time.

He inherited a team with an average age of 27-28 (this is the age of peak of most footballers) and left the team when the average age is over 30 and again both Milan and Juventus are back after their troubles.
Why didn't he stay and build a new team, like the likes of Ferguson. He came and used a ready made team build by Ranieri/Mancini with bottomless money to spend and then ran off.
Benitez was a fool when he took the Inter job, because everyone can see that the team was completely skinned and left with just the bones by Mourinho, it was a disaster waiting to happen.

Barca fan has the right to crave for the return of their manager because Jordi Roura is not a manager but a coach. Some of the players may not even listen to him if he is to say something to them. That can happen.
So if you give Guardiola or Villanova a team like Grenada, they will still be rubbish because they got the bulk of rubbish player they can afford.
