From the video I watched, 'ABC of catfish farming, they advised the following stocking density;
Earthen pond- 2 fish per metre square
Concrete - 5 fish per meter square

If the pond is measured in feet, stocking density is ;
(20*17*4)/3 multiplied by 5
=2266 fishes


It was multiplied by 5 cos its a concrete pond, u multiply by 2 if its earthen pond.


I guess the lower stocking density of earthen pond ois cos the growth rate is supposed to be higher.

Kudos to everyone that have contributed to the success of this thread. keep it up. Am really interested in the fish farming, my space is 20ft by 9ft, how many can i stock there. Secondly, i will like if all questions and answers are done here rather than the email stuff, this is how we do it in travelling section. Thanks to all.

guys, am having a big challenge getting a lime to treat my pond, d one I was advised to buy am not sure its d right lime to use cos d producer can't even advise me to use it. others asked me to use salt. pls help needed here o. I want to go and pump out the water tomorrow to make sure no animals there then I'll cover with the net. pls what do I do abt d treatment. d pond has been ready since over a week now but treatment is delaying me from stocking and starting another pond

Hello sir you can stock 1200 fishes comfortablyto table size though you didn't state the depth.

for the depth, am looking at 4ft or 5ft depth. which would be better. and also should i divide the pond. because the total size of space is that 20ft by 9ft

It will be better if you divide the pond for sorting purpose..10ft by 4.5ft depth of 4ft.

You can't hatch there sir, hatching is a different ball game all together. To hatch you need to have a spawning vat, nursery etc.

You can use one of the aforementioned chemicals. the most available is formalin, malachite green which you can get at agro stores. prices differ from location. we cant see any pix of your farm sir.. you can send me a mail on robonski15@gmail.com
