CELEBRITY NET WORTH compiled their list of the world’s richest people, taking into account the rate of inflation for today. The list uses the annual 2199.6 percent rate of inflation to adjust historic fortunes. It breaks down like this: $100 million in 1913 would be equal to $3.7166 US billion today. It may surprise you to know that the wealthiest man that ever lived was a black African man from Mali.
-----
1) Mansa Musa I , ruler of Malian Empire, would be worth $400 billion today. He made his fortune producing more than half the world's supply of salt and gold.
-----
2) The Rothschild family are the richest people on earth today, with assets that total at least $350 billion. Many believe they control over $1 trillion in real estate and banking assets.
-----
3) John D. Rockefeller will go down as the richest American to ever live, as the wealthy industrialist would be worth a whopping $340 billion today. His company Standard Oil dominated American oil production and was eventually broken up because it became a monopoly. Rockefeller was the first American to ever have a net worth over $1 billion.
-----
4) Andrew Carnegie, a wealthy industrialist, would be worth $310 billion taking into account inflation. Not only did he sell his Carnegie Steel to JP Morgan, but he took home $230 million worth of gold bonds and
received a 5 percent annual coupon to top it off. The bonds sat in a bank in New Jersey, which Carnegie never visited. After selling his company, Carnegie retired from business life and dedicated his time to charity.
-----
5) Tsar Nicholas II of Russia, also known as the last Emperor, would be worth $300 billion in today's market.
-----
6) Osman Ali Khan, Asaf Jah VII, last ruler of Hyderabad, a neighboring country of India, had a personal collection of gold that was worth more than $100 million and owned over $400 million worth of jewels, including the famous Jacob Diamond, which is
worth $95 million today. Khan used the diamond as a paperweight in his office. He supposedly owned more than 50 Rolls Royces and with today's inflation would be worth $236 billion.
-----
7) William the Conqueror, the King of England, made his riches by taking over kingdoms. At the time of his death in 1087, he left his sons the equivalent of $229.5 billion.
-----
cool If you're in power for over 40 years, most likely you'd be on this list. Former Libyan leader, Muammar Gaddafi, comes in at an estimated worth of about $200 billion at the time of his death.
-----
9) Henry Ford was a one trick pony, but what better trick than the Ford Motor Company? At the time of his death, the Ford founder had a net worth of about $199 billion.
-----
10) Cornelius Vanderbilt, who is also the great-great- great-grandfather of CNN's Anderson Cooper, was an industrialist and the third richest American ever, worth $185 billion. He made his first fortune in steamboats, then later made even more money after investing in the railroads.

King Solomon should top that list. He was so rich that even his servants didn't value silver and he had an entire city built as a vault to store gold.

since you said only 1000 years back were considered, then the title should not be men that ever lived or else king Solomon will top all.

besides i think your source contradicts mine as i read that John d. Rockefeller was the richest in our contemporary world with assets worth $700 billions and not $340b you wrote here.

in fact, a documentary surrounding 9/11 seemed to be saying US federal reserve bank might actually be his meaning the country is working for him or rather borrowing from this legacy establishment he started or founded.

There is no way to calculate Solomon's worth in today's value. It's so ancient and monetary system at the time was still at its infancy; it's just not possible to say what Solomon was worth today.

And as per Rockefeller, you made reference to his assets which might be right but the list deals with cash owned, not total asset.
Re: The 10 Wealthiest People Who Ever Lived - Inflation Adjusted by FXKing2012(m): 1:27pm On Apr 06, 2013
^^^^ Wrong sir! When Forbes says Bill Gates, for example, is worth $50billion, only his investments in Microsoft and other companies are considered. The assets owned by Microsoft are not considered his own even though he founded Microsoft. This is because there are other investors who equally invested in Microsoft over the years so the company does not belong entirely to him even though he is the founder and chairman.

Same things applies to Rockafella and Standard oil. The $700billion you referred to has to do with the value of his company (standard oil) which was later broken down into smaller units because the company was enjoying monopoly and becoming too powerful. The major oil companies you hear of today are remnants of standard oil and the combined value of their assets is what is referred to as the $700billion which Rockafella's company would have been worth today.

Point is the worth of a man is different from the worth of his company.

thank you for stating that their investments are part of what they are worth and not just liquid cash stacked somewhere. depending on the type of corporate registration they made, your business and its assets can be part of your liabilities and assets if there are no joint investors or publicly listed shares involved. you can also register it as a separate entity from yourself.

most of them have real estate investments and the values of those properties add up to their worth values but not necessarily their liquid bank account cash.
