Dude, google this problems online and you will find out that mechanics everywhere are the same.

There was an undercover show in USA where hidden cameras showed mechanics recommending fixes, not doing it and yet
collecting money from customers under the guise that their car parts were replaced.

Even the big name corporate mechanics are known to screw people's cars even with the much publicized OBDI and OBD II scanners.

Personally, when I have car problems I refer to the owners' Manual, then google the problem, search in YOutube.
95% of the time, I have been able to decipher the problem before driving up to a mechanic workshop. That way, when
they start their guess works, I will be able to stop them dead on their tracks.

Thanks for all the replies. Because of some replies, I have to add - they are not roadside mechanics, but an auto repair shop. I just don't want to name names not to spoil someone's business.

On the money issue, is it a must to pay the last bill? Can I just complain, take the car and go to another auto centre? Its a shoddy job. What would you do in my situation.

I agree with some posters, next time, I will google and research first. It shouldn't be difficult to read up.

You better make sure its not the guy I saw 2 days ago on the same Clegg street that nearly froze his colleagues hand while they were trying to flush out an ac condenser with RF gas.

No worries, Coco. Please post this query on the Audi / Volkswagen issues resolution thread, and I'll respond there. I don't want to derail this one. smiley

So she should get a replacement torque converter based upon "it could be it's converter"?! And what if it makes no difference?

This is the very trial-and-error approach that Nigerian mechanics use, that ends up making them richer at the expense of their clients. angry

Your insults were uncalled for, an apology would be nice.

And just so you know, wipers are not just "ordinary rubber". They're made of a silicone blend, not plain rubber like is used to make tyres or balloons.
