baslone: The music business hate me 'cause the industry ain't make me
Hustlers and boosters embrace me And the music I be making
I dumb down for my audience And double my dollars
They criticize me for it Yet they all yell "Holla"
If skills sold Truth be told I'd probably be Lyrically Taliban Kweli
Truthfully I wanna rhyme like Common Sense
But I did five Mil, I ain't been rhyming like Common since
When your sense got that much in common And you been hustling since
Your inception Bleep perception Go with what makes sense
Since I know what I'm up against
We as rappers must decide what's most important And I can't help the poor if I'm one of them
So I got rich and gave back To me that's the win, win

The next time you see the homie and his rims spin Just know my mind is working just like them

The rappers are too full of themselves now and instead of spitting out the truth, they go flaunting their dollar bills because they are afraid of the ruling class and are engaged in the vices that have consumed the society. The rappers are too full of themselves now and instead of spitting out the truth, they go flaunting their dollar bills because they are afraid of the ruling class and are engaged in the vices that have consumed the society. The rappers are too full of themselves now and instead of spitting out the truth, they go flaunting their dollar bills because they are afraid of the ruling class and are engaged in the vices that have consumed the society.

druid06: I feel you dude, you just described how I feel about the way rap/hip-hop is.. Too many fakes out there with their wack lyrics. All they talk about is fu0cking bitches, making money and getting high. Heck, one M.C even rapped about having the biggest d-ick so he could fu0ck the world in 72hrs.. WTF is that?? hahaha..lol.... I've switched genre and I'm more into slow rock and maybe once in a while listen to my old rap albums. Hip-hop is dead. It's prime was in the 80's, died in the 90's from then on, it was all just trash.

Dude you talkin bout Kendrick Lamar? You apparently don't know ish bout metaphors!!
go and listen to that track again "BacksEAT Freestyle"
and get the metaphors in it
goodluck,.... not like jonathan

I believe you've got it wrong. the only hip hop artists on your list are Nas, canibus, method man and rahkim, those guys are true lyricists. the rest are rappers, PAC and biggie inclusive
you have my thinking upside down
to me,people who actually got lyrics are rappers to me...pac and biggie are more of rappers who used their power of word play to bring some recognition to their commuinty.they were not the best in terms of word play but they had d biggest positive impact of any artist of their era

druid06: Nas, the only dude that never went commercial and still keeping it real. Snoop dog/lion or whatever he's called now went commercial. Heck, the dude is about to release his own raggae album ( I think he's going through some midlife crisis..lol.. )... Fity followed the bliss and the fame then got covered by it all. Eminem is still keeping it real but also gone commercial. I never really liked Jay-Z kind of music apart from Death of Autotune and Blue-Magic, he's always talking about the money and fame. Kanye west is an arrogant fool, I hate that bastard with every inch of my being. RickRoss was original when he first came out but now every word that spews from his mouth is trash. The nigga is always like '' I got 12 lambogini's and shi-t''.. True story is that the dude is broke as f-uck... Rakim, king of rap, was even better than biggie and pac.
seems you have forgotten "you can hate me now" ft puff daddy by nas.he did go commercial but retraced his steps fast

goldfish80: Seriously Hip hop has gone to the dogs, in opinion hip hop is at an all time low. I remember τђΞ dayz of great Mcs like:
Pac
BIG
Bun B
Fat Joe(joe Crack)
Eminem(at his prime)
NAS(even Jigga admits he's up there)
Naughty by Nature
Red man
Erik simon
Ice cube
Big L
Jigga(black album)
Mack 10
Master P
Trick Daddy
Kanye(1st,2nd Albums)
Its just α joke people rate 2chainz,Drake, etc as Rappers. Smh
The Rap I grew up listening to was that of street hustling, fight against Rasicm, fight against black on black crime.. Its a pity that genre of hip hop has gone,I advice y'll guard closely all your old records
i admit, u r a hip-hop fan.
however i dont agree with some names on ur list.
-trick daddy, kanye, mack 10, master p, Eric, joey, NbN, redman: all these artist were all relevant n nice in their prime but CANNOT be classified as DO.PE LYRICISTS.... they are just nice.

I'd listen to every shit dat the white dude spews (eminem), dat guy is a freak, talk about unadulterated lyrics, straight from the heart, dat dude is passionate.

"Maybe its hatred I spew, maybe its food for the spirit, maybe its beautiful music nd made for u to cherish but am debated, disputed hated nd viewed in america as a motherfucking drug addict "

Listen to renegade ft jay z, d dude killed it

bros I didn't even see ur post before I mentioned Joey badass. u sabi ur music abeg. of all the members of slaughter house the best two hands down are Joe budden and Royce da 5'9. blind fury has been doing his thing since the early 2000s but won't ever see the light of day (pun intended) cos he's blind and not marketable. I've only ever heard a few songs from childish gambino but I must confess that though they were good, I wasn't trilled
yeah, i agree.
slaughterhouse is do.pe n my favorite is crooked I: as in, dat nigga MAD!!.
Joey badass is da youngest lyricist in da game at d moment.... like nas back in '94.
truth be told i gotta say derz a few flaws about gambino. he doesnt always deliver, but wen he means business, he turns into a BEAST. also, he is not hood but i love him for his lyrical complexity. i love gambino of d mixtape era.
da hottest year in rap history was '94.
damn!!! we albums such as:
RESURRECTION, THE DIARY, DOE OR DIE, ILLMATIC, READY TO DIE.... all in one year!!!
damn!!!
hip-hop died so i had to go in d grave (underground) with it!.
at d moment m banging SEAN PRICE... he sick!!

Talking about Kanye, I laff when people say he's wack! Lool... Kanye is the most successful hip hop artist dead or alive. The dude has had 370 nomination and won 112 awards 21 grammys inclusive. In addition,in my own opinion i think hip hop aint dead it just qot tired of the limelight so it went underground.

I thank God for passing through the 90's to celebrate what Hip-hop is all about. Hip-hop is dead! I wonder who the hell is listening to all those gay rappers with their terrible lyrics. My ears bleeds when I hear these rappers burst. ASAP, Drake, Lil-Wayne, Nicki- Minaj etc. Most of these rappers videos are like soft porn...All you see in their videos are Illuminati signs and nude girls. I forgot to mention the Jackass rapper( Kenya West)! Damn!!

hey, black broda!!
there'z a difference b/w being NICE and being A DO.PE LYRICIST!!!!
All dem cats i mentioned were/are nice rappers in their prime n influenced d rap game in various ways but cannot be called DO.PE LYRICISTS!!.
don't school me about awards, success, sales n awards cuz those are NOT factors of RATING a good lyricist.
I wonder how u view lyricism but u got it wrong man.
can u compare IMMORTAL TECHNIQUE or TECH9 to KANYE?.
d answers is no but immortal n tech dont have any of d factors u stressed wen evaluating KANYE.
feel me?
again, i don't think u know jay-z too well. kanye's production helped him sell but was selling platinum b4 kanye came in... In '94, HARD KNOCK LIFE album sold 4mill. but, m stressing about lyricism n REASONABLE DOUBT is jay-z's do.pest album n will 4eva be.
I'm a fvcking hip-hop head mehn!!!
u lost ur rap cred when u mentioned MASTER P, datz a fail!!!
damn!! one of d wackest rappest eva!!!
when it comes to hip-hop, I'm on anoda level bro!!
