Hi People,

Only nigerians respond in the manner a lot of you nigerians 'in diaspora' have responded to the BA issue embarassed shocked. Many of you seem to forget that on each and every day you spend in diaspora you feel homesick, wether you admit it or not, that's left to you.So pls don't come on this website speaking as if you are all, holier than thou.

If you are better than Yar'adua himself, why did you not contest the election, win it, and make nigeria a better place; nigerians a better people. If you did not or could not then please leave nigeria the way it is. Those of us back here should be the ones complaining, not you guys who do not go through what we go through on a daily basis.

Coming back to the issue at hand, I personally think nigerians worldwide should boycott BA as a carrier. There are cheaper options which have nigerian interests represented, Virgin Nigeria is partly nigeria and acts as the national carrier for now.

We have always been bullied by the British (@ the embassy, stolen funds, Umaru Dikko, colonial days adn a whole lot of other stuff which are not even worth mentioning here.

From the newspaper reports, the deportee was been restrained and man-handed by british security personnel. I am yet to understand if this part of the deportation process (maybe to leave the deportee with a lasting nasty impression of the UK). I have seen deportations in progress from other european countries and all they do if need be is to use handcuffs. Why was the deportee shouting "I go die o".

Fellow nigerians, I believe it is high time europeans (especially the british) realise that we do not need our govt to send them a message. We can do this ourselves!!! Moreso, we can do this now. If BA stops getting nigerian passengers on economy class for just 3 months, I bet you all that they will release a public apology to nigerians (PS. Not just the airline, the british govt will do same to the nigerian govt and its people)

Well I have said my bit, pls think this issue over again and lets take action together.

Enjoy your evening!!

Jamco45:

Virgin Nigeria is owned by Nigeria.

51% owned by Nigeria and 49% owned by Virgin.

Virgin is responsible for the day to day management of the airline, the Virgin brand is very successful, experienced and well recognised hence the huge percentage. Over time perhaps after their initial contract Virgin will sell more shares to Nigeria.

Therefore Nigerian national airline is VIRGIN NIGERIA.

See logic in action. It looks like this your "virgin" Nigeria is an "half-caste"! grin I wonder what will happen if it were 100% red-blooded Nigerian.

100% ownership will be more befitting. Not half and half.  We know how the other "Virgin" Airline ended up.

Raped!

And where did you get that? undecided

No! Nothing wrong with a Nigerian marrying a white person.  I am all for inter-tribal, inter-racial or inter-planetary marriages if anyone so desires.

My point was that your "Virgin" Nigeria is not full blooded Nigerian.  The reason it is successful by any standards right now is that it is half-white like Obama! wink

Anything half-white will be more progressive than anythng full black! Including myself.  I am not partial. cheesy

When your Virgin Nigeria goes full Nigerian, it becomes the classic "Soso-lie-lie-Lisos", falling off the air like sick vultures!

Aridon's response is very intelligently articulated and I think we should all think about it. Even before reading it I have made up my mind since that incident occurred that I won't fly British Airway for any reason that is within my control. It's time for Nigerians to let them know that colonial time is over. As I have said earlier in another thread the only way you can get big corporation to listen and act right is through their purse if they don't feel it financially they will not come down their hight horse it is that simple.

@Spermdrop,

The interplanetary marriage thingie is funny it's just that aliens might not have birth certificate to present at the county/registry or no one would be able to interprete their language if they should show their interplanetary passport, lol. I wonder what that would look like.

someone sent me this:

Hi,

If you love Nigeria then you will act.

"When they came for the communists, I was silent, because I was not a communist;
When they came for the socialists, I was silent, because I was not a socialist;
When they came for the trade unionists, I did not protest, because I was not a trade unionist;
When they came for the Jews, I did not protest, because I was not a Jew;
When they came for me, there was no one left to protest on my behalf."

We members of the Respect Nigeria Coalition (RNC) have resolved to officially commence the worldwide boycott of British Airways goods and services as from Thursday, 15 May, 2008. We are calling on every Nigerian and friends of Nigeria, every person who loves justice and fairness and every person who has a social conscience to vote against British Airways with the power of their purse.

PRESS STATEMENT BY RESPECT NIGERIANS COALITION (RNC) ON THE EXPIRATION OF ULTIMATUM GIVEN TO BRITISH AIRWAYS

Ladies and Gentlemen of the Press, we are issuing this Statement on behalf of Respect Nigerians Coalition (RNC), a coalition of organizations and persons championing the campaign against British Airways' discriminatory and indecorous treatment of its Nigerian customers. You all know that on Thursday, 27 March 2008, British Airways officials and the police subjected Mr Ayodeji Omotade to degrading treatment and went further to eject the other 135 passengers (overwhelmingly Nigerians) from BA075 flight bound for Lagos Nigeria from London Heathrow Airport. Of course, we are acutely aware that without your unstinting support, this story would have been swept under the carpet. That is why today, we are once again calling on you to help deepen international consciousness about the campaign.

On Tuesday, April 15 2008, we made five specific demands on British Airways over this issue and asked that they address these before Wednesday, April 30, 2008. We asked British Airways to:

tender a clear and well-worded apology to all passengers affected by their discriminatory and intimidatory conduct aboard flight BA075 on 27 March, 2008 in a Nigerian national newspaper;
tender a clear and well-worded written apology and appropriate compensation to Mr Ayodeji Omotade for financial and emotional losses suffered as a result of the conduct of British Airways and its agents on the day;
withdraw all adverse statements made to the police about Mr. Ayodeji Omotade over this incident;
lift the ban imposed on Mr Ayodeji Omotade, even as he would still retain his right to decide whether or not to fly British Airways in the future, and
issue an undertaking that British Airways shall improve its customer care culture and desist from such practices that give the impression that the airline is arrogant, uncaring and discriminatory.
So far, British Airways has failed to do any of the above or give any indication of its intention to do any of the above. The terrible statements its faceless officials have been making in the press over this issue, both in the United Kingdom and Nigeria, attest to the unwillingness of those who run the airline to see reason. In the face of British Airways' stonewalling, it is therefore our intention to now inform you of our next line of action.

We are calling on people to educate British Airways on the virtues of good corporate citizenship. Nigerians and friends of Nigeria all over the world will continue to sign the Petition/Protest Letter posted on our two websites – www.nigeriavillagesquare and www.respectnigerians.com as long as the protest continues.

We recognize the concern showed by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar'Adua and the Nigerian Federal Government over this issue. We are aware that discussions are ongoing between agents of the Federal Government and British Airways, the details of which are unknown to us at this time. But we are not waiting for the Federal Government to teach British Airways that the customer is king. They will find that out as they continue to test our resolve, because we are absolutely determined to prove that it's possible for people's power to trounce corporate tyranny.

Finally, you, members of the press, are the most important pillars of support we have throughout this struggle. It is you that put our issue on the front-burner of national and international discourse. Your reports have roused the consciousness of the British and international public and we know that the endless stream of messages of support we are receiving and the thousands of signatories supporting our protest have been largely due to the publicity and support you have given our campaign from the beginning.

Please, stand solidly with us, for the man dies in him who keeps silent in the face of tyranny of any sort.

Thank you for your support, care and attention.

Signed:

Kennedy Emetulu
Michael Egbejumi-David
Tosin Awotesu.

Its painful that sm Nigerians are taking side with BA over the ugly incident of March 27 and this is the major problem we have in Nigeria.We are not our brother's keeper.Having read several report of that day's even (from Nigerians Concerned & BA officials) along with watching Mr.Omotade Interview on Tv,it is very clear that it was a case of BA thinking that there was nothing anybody cld do.

I urge every true Nigerian to boycott BA so they know that we know our rights and gone are the days when we took rubbish
Re: 136 Ba Passengers Removed From Jet Over Deportee Row by shostopper: 11:41am On May 21, 2008
Honestly, i think the people that should say diddly on this issue are those who were actually there and were live witnesses. Personally, i think as an individual,we should be our brother's keepers wherever we find ourselves as Nigerians. That's how we were brought up and that individual that was suggesting that next time Mr Ayo will be quiet needs to get his head examined!!! We should learn to stick together and support each other coz it's bad enough that basically the whole world figures we are like the most corrupt country in the world, we only have each other!!!
Re: 136 Ba Passengers Removed From Jet Over Deportee Row by Ebonyj(f): 2:20pm On May 21, 2008
I think the best thing to stop BA flights from coming to Nigeria,because I know that even with all the insult we have been given by BA and some Nigerians will still fly via BA. So if the government /foregin affairs body can stop BA flights from entering Nigeria even if it is only for 3 months it will make a huge difference.
Re: 136 Ba Passengers Removed From Jet Over Deportee Row by javalove(m): 2:27pm On May 28, 2008
Heehhhneennn, ! This oyinbo people have always felt they r superior to us. If it was a white that did what Mr. Ayo did, i dont think it would have gotten to that. Any Nigerian taken sides with BA needs to be stripped on his Nigerian passport, his name and what ever it that makes him/her a nigerian.

No one would fight for us, we will fight for ourselves. When they come here we treat them they are from Mars while they trat us like garbage,

Any nigerian who supports BA on whatever ground is a fool and should be banned from this site, (i de vex oo). If Mr. Ayo was your brother or uncle how would you feel? The whites themselves know how a black thinks of his fellow black and its to their advantage,

I'm not even ready to listen to their side, Awon oloshi jatijati yi, Kaaada fun BA, hisses
