This is for Davidylan. Eat ur heart out. What do you think of Hillary Clinton now huh? She was the "crazy feminist" when she started out. She was vilified and called every abusive name in the book for being an ambitious woman and not "submissive and traditional" like the first ladies before her. Now that she is fulfiling her ambition you assume and pretend as if she just magically rose up to high ranks without having to face criticism from anti-feminists like you. The public vilification that is meant to put women "in their place" (on whatever issue it may be) do not faze feminists and that is why you are threatened.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NPZkwbuKbTw "I suppose I could have stayed at home and baked cookies and had teas but what I decided to do is to fulfill my profession which I entered before my husband was in public life..."hahah LOVE HER!! "the first lady was supposed to play the role of the wife and mother.. when Hillary stepped over that line, she got hammered more than anyone in this country ever has".... 1 Like |

Unspoken rules are behavioral constraints imposed in organizations or societies that are not voiced or written down. They usually exist in unspoken and unwritten format because they form a part of the logical argument or course of action implied by tacit assumptions. Examples involving unspoken rules include unwritten and unofficial organizational hierarchies, organizational culture, and acceptable behavioral norms governing interactions between organizational members. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unspoken_rule #feminists-defy-unspoken-rules 2 Likes |

Anyone following this topic? https://www.nairaland.com/1357050/soyinka-patience-jonathan-lady-before Wole Soyinka has accused Patience Jonathan of being behind the rivers state crisis. He didn't provide any evidence or proof for his accusations. But it is highly suspect that he is infuriated over Bipi's esteem of Patience. Somehow just that fact that Bipi holds patience in high esteem means to soyinka that patience has power which she should not have as a "lady" http://news.naij.com/40015.html wole soyinka's words verbatim:
this is beyond absurd and I am highly disappointed in Soyinka. according to him, it is "unconstitutional" for wives to give their husbands and friends political opinion. LOL I guess he feels he (as a male) should have more authority over Nigerian politics than our first lady should have. seeing as he has an opinion on everything and doesn't seem to see the problem with his own actively meddling involvement in Nigerian politics. I wonder how he rationalizes that. legislators throwing chairs and beating each other up. not an uncommon spectacle in Nigerian politics. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zM9P9nxNMA8 |

A (male) Nairaland member has created a thread to commentate properly on the issue. I wonder how people will respond to the thread. Soyinka's works and plays are well known to have a chauvinist/elitist bias which explains the thread title. Soyinka: The Chauvinist Bitterness For The Empowerment Of Women In Nigeria by akpomeme(m): 12:59am The elitist sense of self that the educated and fortunate class of people carry on their shoulders has become a burden to over 90% of Nigerian voters who do not fall within this segment. This segment is well occupied by all knowing narcissus “Wole Soyinka” and his kinds; who now believes that his acknowledged monkey see monkey do achievement by colonial factors gives him the right to belittle Nigerian women in politics. Patience Jonathan may not have had fair opportunities in life just as elitist Soyinka, but one cannot take away the tenacity of Patience Jonathan and her willingness to make mistakes in pursuit of goals. She campaigned for husband during the last election, the elite class laughed at her but she was well understood by her constituency (Women – Educated and otherwise). Her successes irked the less than 10% opinionated elite class who already defined the office of the first lady to be something beyond Patience; an everyday Nigerian woman. This was most recently highlighted by the calls for her to be relegated to ‘being a lady first before being a first lady’. The truth of the matter is that Patience Jonathan understand that there is nothing lady like about Nigerian politics. Buhari once noted that he rather not run for the highest job in Nigeria if the best his alliance can produce is Ngozi Okonjo who should be in the kitchen cooking for her husband, Such is the story of Nigerian politics. You will agree with me that under President Jonathan, more women have been empowered far more than any other government in the history of Nigeria has ever done. This battle is one of those battles being fought by Patience Jonathan. Nigerians should always read in-between the line when a frail that is good enough for men is considered not good enogh for women. Professor can criticise madam first lady all he want, but he can not detract the battle for empowerment of women in politics by Patience Jonathan. Chauvinism and elitism cannot win elections where erroneous diction can. https://www.nairaland.com/1358304/soyinka-chauvinist-bitterness-empowerment-women |

@99cents Patience jonathan issue is not an isolated event. That you singles out a section of Soyinka's statement and used it to lambast the erudite scholar speaks volumes about your sense of judgement. Instead of fighting for justice, you fight for "women's rights" even when those women are miles away from being just. Is it not the same patience that has been insulting an elected governor of Rivers State? How come you didn't notice the abuses and public humiliation he has suffered at the hands of Patience Jonathan. So bc he is a man he can be ignored and his case declared unimportant. You see why people don't take feminists seriously. Even the Clinton you like to quote, while making a case for feminism in Beijing conference in 1995 was careful to align female rights with HUMAN RIGHTS. She legitimized female rights by bringing it under human rights. So if human rights work out fine, won't female rights be covered therein? But you don't care about human rights, do you? All you care is female rights( translate women getting whatever they wish) and so the governor of rivers state is unimportant, but Patience is a victim bc Soyinka said the truth about her? Abi the prof lie? The office of the First Lady is a domestic appendage of power. Period. And it's unconstitutional anyways. Truth hurts |

99cent: This is for Davidylan. Eat ur heart out. What do you think of Hillary Clinton now huh? I'm not sure i understand your point because it is, as usual, full of misrepresentation, incoherent statements and head scratching irrelevancy. No one is complaining that Hillary is a successful woman. Rather the point is that society has evolved to the point where women can aspire to AND ATTAIN opportunities that were hitherto denied to them solely on the grounds of gender. The difference between the likes of Hillary and mouth-frothing demagogues like you is that Hillary does not need to run a rabid campaign denigrating men (and "anti-feminist" women) to get to her position in life. She worked HARD, with the support of a loving family to achieve her goals. I am not sure she would be where she is today if she spent all her time sobbing about trumped up claims of gender inequality. Hillary's success is the type of example that is routinely celebrated in the lives of the mothers, aunts, nieces... of me and many of the men here. We stand for women who exhibit the drive and ambition to achieve whatever they set their minds to do. Not those who don the garb of perpetual victimhood. Another huge difference between Hillary and your likes? She took her marital vows seriously and stayed with a husband who openly cheated on her (after he apologized). People like you would have quit even before the saliva dried on Bill's lips. 5 Likes |

But by 2013 I'm the meanest modafoka that confronts injustice against anyone be it make or female, old or young, etc so 2013 is better

Anything that actually makes too much noise to be recognised, considered itself to be inferior in the first place. Such is the case of feminism. Story tellers who try to jump into business of critical thinking may end up not help matters in any way. |
