Glo emerges biggest winner at BoICT Night with 4 awards

Leading telecoms operator, Globacom, emerged the
biggest winner at the 2013 edition of the Beacon of ICT
(BoICT) Awards held last weekend, taking home a total of
four awards for its outstanding performance in the
telecoms sector.
At the award ceremony which was held at Eko Hotel &
Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, Globacom won the Telecoms
Company of the Year, Best GSM Company of the Year, Most
Innovative Mobile Player of the Year and Broadband
Company of the Year.
The BoICT Awards were instituted to reward the vision and
enterprise of individuals and companies that have
contributed to the growth of the ICT industry in Nigeria.
The winners were determined through a poll conducted by
the organizers, CommunicationsWeek Media. Readers of
the magazine and telecom industry stakeholders were
allowed to cast their votes by email or through voting on a
portal created for the purpose on the company’s website.
Special Guest of Honour at the event and Chairman of the
Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators
(ALTON), Gbenga Adebayo, commended the organizers for
recognizing innovation and excellence in the telecom
industry.
He expressed optimism that the award would achieve its
objective of providing a benchmark for validating
outstanding contributions to the country’s quest for
growth in the ICT sector.
Ken Nwogbo, Editor-in-Chief and Chief Executive Officer of
CommunicationsWeek, said explained that the Telecoms
Company of the Year award was given to Glo in recognition
of its “pursuit of customer satisfaction with a passion that
inspires hope and unparalleled achievements”, and that
the Broadband Company of the Year was for providing
sufficient bandwidth for economic prosperity through Glo
1.
He added that the Best GSM Company of the Year and Most
Innovative Mobile Player of the Year awards were for Glo’s
“ability to continuously excite its subscribers and be a
leader in innovation as well as for its ability to reinvent the
wheel.”
Other winners at the awards were Zenith Bank which
emerged E-Banking Services Provider of the Year, GT Bank
which won Mobile Money Operator of the Year, Vodacom
Business which won Enterprise Solutions Provider of the
Year and the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC)
which won the Government Agency of the Year Award.
The Director General of NBC, Yomi Bolarinwa, won the ICT
Man of the Year, while former Executive Vice Chairman of
Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Ernest
Ndukwe, was inducted into the BoICT Hall of Fame.
