Superior authority must b recognized and respected. How could a state governor b challenging the president. How many local government chairmen are challenging their state governors. Everyone is saying that Gej is weak. The guy is not weak, but slow. Just tell Amaechi 2 b wise in dealing with superior authority.

It is a democracy, Amaechi has every right to question the leadership of the President within the confines of the law. A strong President will recognise that it is Amaechi's right to do so.

If Jonathan feels Amaechi and the RSG are breaking the law, the court is there for him to use.

Otherwise Jonathan needs to get used to how democracy works. Jonathan has this misguided idea that everyone South of the Niger must like him. Thats just plain ridiculous. If Amaechi was from NW Jonathan wont be doing all the nonesense he is doing.

OP. The brain is there for a reason. What is your reason for saying Jonathan is afraid of Rotimi Amaechi? How could that be possible if you use your brain properly?

Has Amaechi criticised Jonathan any more than Babangida Aliyu of Niger State? Is Babangida Aliyu being hounded openly by the Presidency as they do Amaechi?

The President must realise that even great Presidents dont get loved by everyone, not to talk of a very dumb fellow like him!

This is what some of us have been saying all along. GEJ should simply get used to the idea of testing his popularity all the time and everywhere , as democracy demands, or refrain from running to prevent being disgraced. Bullying and intimidating everyone and everything out of the way should not be an option.

I have no quarrel with Jonathan – Amaechi

Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State has described as a “media creation” the purported rift between him and President Goodluck Jonathan.

“I am not aware that Mr. President and I are quarrelling. As far as I am concerned, we are not quarrelling”, Amaechi told reporters on Thursday in Kano State.

The governor stated this even as he said the planned election into the Nigerian Governors’ Forum was not a do-or-die.

Amaechi was in the ancient city on the invitation of his Kano State counterpart, Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Amaechi, the NGF chairman said, “Governor Kwankwaso invited me to Kano to come and inspect some of the projects on the ground, and that is why I am here.”

On the forthcoming NGF election, Amaechi said it was not a do-or-die thing, as he would bow out if not given the chance to continue in that capacity.

He added, “If I am not re-elected as the Chairman of the Governors’ Forum, there is nothing to lose, I will still remain a member of the forum, and work towards its success.”

Concerning his posters for the 2015 presidential race, which had appeared in some cities, Amaechi said, “My picture with that of Kano governor as well as Jigawa governor, Sule Lamido; will I be vice-president to both of them?”

Meanwhile, civil rights groups, Africa Network for Environment and Economic Justice and the Ogoni Solidarity Forum on Thursday in Abuja urged President Goodluck Jonathan to stop muzzling the opposition.

According to them, there is a “gradual attempt to muzzle opposition and human right groups”.

Instead, they asked the Federal Government to learn to tolerate opposing voices since constructive criticism remained the hallmark of democracy.

The Executive Director of ANEEJ, Rev. David Ugolor, and the National Coordinator of OSF, Mr. Celestine Akpobori, at a joint briefing, also pleaded with the judiciary to redeem its image by maintaining its independence and integrity.

GEJ is under enormous pressure to prove himself strong and in control.
He is using Amechi to do just that.
But, he got got it all wrong.
He should have used boko Haram to do that much earlier than now.
We wait and see

Not just Amaechi, he's afraid of anything that'll stand in his way towards 2015. That's why he's always abusing presidential powers against his phantom enemies.

That Jonathan is a very crude & treacherous local man who doesn't understand how modern societies operate. If he can buy you, he buys you otherwise he unleashes the powers of the fed govt at you. Watch it though; people like these usually end up being disgraced.

Yes GEJ is very scared of oppositions within and outside PDP.
But he failed to realize that Ameachi is a fearless breed.

No matter the tricks he may deploy against Ameachi, he might not win the battle as long as most northern & ACN governors are in favour of Ameachi.

GEJ is scared of Ameachi because he knew and believe what Ameachi is capable of doing.

You really captured the character Ameachi is made up of. I know him to be very very fearless and fairly arrogant. No one has ever kept Rivers State at bay like him. The only chance for Jonathan is to organise a peace parley with him, afterall he( Jonathan) sat and negotiated with militants and was ready to exchange ideas with Boko Haram should they decide to come out, why not ask for forgiveness from Ameachi?

Obj was able to kneel down for Atiku when he realised Atiku was standing between his 2003 election and controlling no fewer than 26 governors on the eve of presidential primaries.

The only people I pity are these brainless sycophants thinking Ameachi can be crushed.
