The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has denied reports alleging that it had rejected a bid by some political parties to merge into the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Chief Press Secretary to the chairman of INEC, Kayode Idowu, in a statement said contrary to the reports in some national dailies (not Daily Sun) accusing INEC of rejecting the registration of APC, the commission had not written to stop the registration of APC.

According to him, “the attention of INEC has been drawn to reports in some newspapers, alleging that it has rejected a bid by some political parties to merge as the APC. I want to say that the reports are untrue and the commission has not written any letter to stop the bid as APC.

“What happened was that the commission, in a letter signed by its secretary and dated April 23 only declined an application by another association seeking to register as the All Progressives Congress of Nigeria (APCN), because the acronym proposed by the association is similar to that of another already seeking registration.

“The commission hereby reassures Nigerians that it will always do the right thing as a dispassionate and impartial regulator of the political process.”
