A SENATE public hearing was yesterday presented with a petition for the payment of pensions to former Biafran soldiers including Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegu-Ojukwu. Revelations before the committee also pointed to the existence of 1,000 ghost names on the pension payroll of the Nigerian Railways Corporation.

The Senate public hearing into the delayed payment of pensions to retired public servants was told that the present federal administration had released N118.9 billion to date for the payment of civilian and military pensions.

Awka, Anambra — The over 150 wounded ex-Biafran soldiers quartered at the leper's settlement, Oji River in Enugu State since the end of the Nigerian civil war, have demanded a N200 billion rehabilitation grant from the Federal Government.

The demand was contained in a 9-point memorandum sent to the Justice Oputa panel on Human Rights Violation Investigation after its sitting in Enugu.
