@Rossikk..,thank you jare. These are the kind of FACTS some of us are interested in. Atleast from data like this it will be clear to all whether we'r making progress or not. Personally, I even think the progress has been much more because the level of reporting of deaths in 70s and 90s is less than that of the last few years, ie more deaths were unreported in those days compared to the last few years.

Emergency activists, jack-of-all-trade analysts and brown envelope journalists who base their analysis on hearsays, beer parlour gossips and ACNized imaginations should learn to look at some of these empirical data.

It is only in Nigeria that some CLOWNS who call themselves analysts sit over a bottle of beer and tell you that corruption in Nigeria is increasing at "alarming rate", quality of life is now abysmal, bla, bla.

UNICEF belongs to every member of the united nations. Moreover, we'r talking about data, not perception or what some people think or hearsays. These data are gotten from COUNTING the number of deaths.

One thing for sure, life expectancy was higher in nigerian 70s than in the present. They use to have aged people in nigeria, especially in the villages. But these days, people in their middle fifties happens to be diopkas(senior elders) in villages these day, with little or no wisdom, just like the politicians.

All the old wise men and women have long gone.Things have really fallen apart in nigeria. In the midst of the heat,we are fast losing the little that is left of cultures.Villages are filled with churches and mosques, with traditional becoming pastors and imans like the ALUU chief.Turning their backs to the core traditions, ceremonies and reverences that holds communities together.

Sorry, but you cannot invent your own data off the top of your head. The UN statistics show quite clearly the opposite to be true.

Thanks Sincere 9gerian. As far as credibility goes, there's nothing quite like UN stats to set the record straight over newspaper/beer parlour innuendo, and baseless assertions. As you know, the UN spends billions of dollars a year on empirical research using the world's best trained staff, so their findings are incontestable. cool

Poverty Level Has Reduced In Nigeria – World Bank

Date: 17-Jan-2013

The World Bank has praised economic policies of President Goodluck Jonathan‘s administration, declaring that it has led to slight reduction in the country’s poverty index from 48 to 46 percent.

Mouktar Diop, World Bank’s vice president for Africa during his visit to President Jonathan yesterday said that Nigeria’s economic indicators remained positive even times of recession.

“At the time when the economy is going down, we have seen that Nigeria has been keeping a growth rate which is rather significant. So, I was here to hear from the President’s priority and discuss other issues such as how poverty has been evolving in the country and what we can do to accelerate the reduction of poverty.

“Our work recently has shown that there is slight reduction in the level of poverty in Nigeria moving from 48 to 46 percent. The trend is good. It needs to be accelerated obviously. What we discussed are the policies that we can put in place to accelerate the pace of poverty reduction in Nigeria,” Daily Trust quoted him as saying.

Diop also said the World Bank has decided to intervene in Nigeria’s energy crisis saying it has decided to put up a task force which will include private sector branch to support the reform.

Unlike the un-encouraging statistics that has been attributed to Nigeria by international organisations in recent times, this is quite welcoming. However, some Nigerians disagree with the statistics saying there is no visible improvement in the quality of lives of the average Nigerian and the poverty level is still high in Nigeria.

Sorry, but educated, informed people like myself and sincere 9jerian know the difference between UN research and beer parlour/politically motivated 'reports', UNLIKE YOU, and will consider reports based on the credibility of the source. In this case, the credibility of the UN is unquestionable, so if you ''cannot be convinced'' by UN data, it is because you are ignorant and lacking in basic intelligence.

Without a doubt, the standard of living has improved in Nigeria, when you compare with the 60s or 70s.
What I am trying to wrap my head around is, how these fellows are trying to give GEJ the credit for that

...But we can debit for power situation, forgetting that the day he was sworn sometime in 2010, the power generation was less than half of today's value? You know, you ACN/CPC people have said too many things of which most are lies that anything new you said end up contradicting the former ones.

Who are ACN/CPC people?
And how does your comment answer my question? What has GEJ done to improve life expectancy and poverty in 2 years?
