May God save the victims of the collapsed building.

But seriously, this is one of the products of quarks that are employed to build mostly in Lagos State, they dont usually add the factor of safety (1.4GK + 1.6QK) which is necessary for the structural stability of any building, besides the weight of the liveload must be 2 time less than the weight of the deadload or even more lesser because the use of buildings are subject to change with time including the strength.

If any building collapses i think the structural engineer should be summoned and be asked some questions.

This is so sad! The SON (Standards Organisation of Nigeria) should do a better job of inspecting the quality of cement being commercially distributed in Nigeria. Incidents of collapsed buildings should be reduced to the barest minimum, or even totally eradicated.

I was coming from my site when this happened, 2 days ago. God is merciful.

The building was originally a bungalow before it was converted to a 2 storey building. The labourers and menial workers were trapped(about 4 of them) and sadly, all the government could provide were axes for digging. One of the trapped guy even called someone with his phone. Everybody pick shovel,axe begin dig.

All because of greed on the part of landlord plus the town planning officials who would not do the right thing because their palms have been greased.

This is the problem right there
They dig a foundation and pour slab for a one level house then they keep adding on to it
The landlord and the person who gave him a permit to build should be arrested and charged with manslaughter if anyone died,endangering the lives of people willfully should be the other charge

We don't follow proper regulation because of lack of control, corruption and greediness. It is high time we pay serious attention to safety issues in this country.
