One day i asked my chinese supplier to help me pay for something from a US owned website with paypal. he told me the chinese govt does not allow him to buy things outside china. he must look for that thing or its alternative within china. i felt like a fool buying things from him.

The whole point of my argument is, in as long as REVENUES have exchanged hands, from one foreign source to another, the entity involved should pay relevant taxes to their local authorities regardless of physical presence or not. Physical presence will ONLY apply to individuals paying taxes on an item as regulated by interstate commerce, but a corporation is an entity and isn't subject to individual laws and thus should pay relevant taxes. You guys can see how U.S. is winning because either way, you pay taxes before and after.

This is a borderline insane notion, proposition or whatever term best applies to it.

In essence, if i choose to place an ad for nalaugh.com on Nairaland's ad platform, then Seun suddenly owes the US government taxes coz of this?

Turkey trying to tax Facebook & twitter. real funny stuff. If they implement the policy, there is a very simple solution to it.
Block Turkey from Facebook & twitter. Trust me, no one will miss them.

Well, Google tried same thing with China if I recall sometimes last year, well guess what, the tax liability compared to the revenue/traffic is 10x greater. So no, they won't block them but will bow in to their pressure or at least NEGOTIATE. Even Nigeria that is growing in IT, and Google estimated about 100K small businesses online by 2015, if 20% of that number spends an average of $50 x 12months annually = $600, that's $12million annually to Google. If Nigerian tax rate is say 10% after expense and expense including Cost of Revenue was say 80%, that's $240k to Nigerian Govt. Do you think Google wanna give up $12million compared to $240k tax liability? Do the math

Northern Cyprus is not part of Turkey. It's a disputed territory between Turkey and Cyprus but technically more a part of Cyprus than Turkey

I have visited Turkey 3 times, spending like a week on each visit. Never witnessed any power failure on those visits.

Its not taxable because there's no presence. If all countries adopt this method, nairaland would close within a day because I'm pretty sure someone in Turkey visits nairaland daily.
Does nairaland have any advertisement ads originating from Turkey?

The Nigerian internet space ofcourse.

Question is, how much service do an average Nigeroan get from it's government. I guess that's a topic for the politics section.
Point is, they make money from Nigerians hence they should pay their Tax.

U are on point.
If nigeria decide to block them,u can imagine how much they'll lose as a result.apart from south africa, google, facebook and twitter generates more more in nigeria than any other african nation.

you think Nigeria is a wealthy country?
Smh.
When you compare Nigeria to her contemporaries, she is a very poor country with a huge population to cater for.
So by not supporting the payment of taxes, you are only cheating yourself.

people wont even understand topic before making ridiculous comments.

the tax in question is on the revenue they generate from advertisement.we all know online platforms are free but then they make money from adverts.all these companies pay tax in america so why shouldnt they pay tax on adverts that originate from turkey or even nigeria?facebook makes a lot of money from adverts in nigeria, same as google.

Re: Should Facebook And Twitter Pay Tax In Nigeria? by Nobody: 8:03am On May 24, 2013
In addition to the stamp duties,PITA, e.tc there are basically two main taxes in Nigeria; personal income tax and companies income tax.

Only companies duly incorporated in Nigeria would be subject to taxation. Facebook as a company has no presence In Nigeria and cannot be taxed.

However relevant laws could be enacted to make Facebook subject to taxation but I doubt if our legislators are capable. We still have so many Nigerians who do not pay tax yet nothing has been done about it talkless of trying to tax online entities
