Hi. If the idea is to be a better person, (possessing diverse ablilities and capabilities needed to tackle and solve biz probs, be creative/innovative and start a business of your own etc.) i'll advise LBS. From LBS, you'll get an academic, experiential and value adding qualification. If what you need is just an additional academic (though international) qualification, then, ACCA might be it. I'm talking from experience and not just gainsaying. The choice is yours, though. |

Hi Funmiee. I think i should let you know that an MBA at the LBS is very tasking and challenging. You'll need 5yrs work experience to do part time which is just friday afternoons and saturdays. if your work experience is not up to that, then you will have to do full time. Both the full time and part time are demanding. So i'll advise you attend one of their information sessions to familiarise yourself with the whole MBA concept. The info session is free and dates will be on the school's site. Wish you well in your career pursiut. |

Fummiee: You no go school? There's a difference between an ACADEMIC qualification and a PROFESSIONAL qualification. Do i still need to explain that to you? |
Re: Acca, Masters In U.k Or Lbs? by gbekumoyan(f): 8:43am On May 08, 2008 |
Prof qual. by name, yes I agree. So also is the MBA. Now, tell me what's in a name, if the experience i get from it is basically, academic. Did you notice i called the MBA academic too? That's because it also has it's own academic aspect. LBS MBA teaching/learning process is mostly, the casestudy approach which is different from the non-experiential cram and pass that we do with ACCA, by this, i mean we don't learn by doing. My intention is not to downplay what you hold dear , but to help a sis make a decision. Have a good day . |

gbekumoyan: My Dear, Our Nigerian Educational system has given us a wrong impression about what qualifications really should be. The approach to an Academic qualification is scientific and hypothetical so most of what is taught is theoretical with little or no real life scenarios to work with. Thats where the BSc's, MSc's and Phd's fall into. The application of the theories is left to the practitioners to do. On the other hand, the approach to a professional qualification is based more on Case Studies and the application of theories that the academics have propounded. The MBA's and other professional professional exams like CFA, ACCA, CPA, etc fall into this category. The LBS MBA seems to be the only MBA in Nigeria that is being run properly so thats not an issue. ACCA, is not professional by name only. The approach is based on what professional qualifications should really be. The structure is such that you can study on your own and at your own pace but the questions are almost entirely case study based. You also need to have completed 36 months of supervised and relevant work experience before you can even call yourself an ACCA, so while you are learning the theory by reading you are also learning by DOING. I don too talk sef. I'm out! |

recommending an MBA program for a recent graduate with absolutely no experience is a big no no in my opinion I don't think any school or should I say most school wont even admit you with three years experience! |
Re: Acca, Masters In U.k Or Lbs? by babasegun(m): 11:31pm On May 08, 2008 |
Hey, I think you should go on with your job search and if its not forthcoming like you said and cant wait, its better you go for a master degree (Msc not an MBA). ACCA still requires work experience (PER)practical experience requirement, without that you wont be granted your acca qualification even after passing all your exams. PS: there are differences between Msc and MBA |
