It is worth celebrating! Though our democracy is beset by many problems. Many folks would cite divers problems that we are encountering and would go further to compare the Nigeria to US or even Britain. But the truth is we cant compare both with Nigeria. America is enjoying over 200 years of independence, Britain was never colonized, and Nigeria is just going to be 53yrs old this year. The early years of the two model countries was worse than ours.
We must not lose hope in Nigeria. Its our country. We shall ascend the throne of glory over the nations. In the inspiring words of Charles Spurgeon, "By perservance, the snail reached the ark".
I believe in Nigeria. We shall make it. Can i get a witness?[color=#000099]

What does democracy day has to do with present day situations that you'll ask that question? It ought to be celebrated because its the day civilians got freedom... Its Not today so its a remembrance day thats why we're celebrating it!

Democracy Day is a public holiday in Nigeria. It is held annually on 29 May.

The holiday commemorates the return of democracy in Nigeria on May 29, 1999 when Olusegun Obasanjo took office as President of Nigeria. President Obasanjo was the first elected and civilian head of state in Nigeria after 16 years of military rule. This day is very important to Nigerians because it is the day that every citizen gained the right to speak. It is the day people stopped living in fear and were free from the rule of the gun.

It should be a time of reflection and making plans to correct past mistakes. It shouldn't be a time for jamboree!

yes and NO. democracy is only fruitful and favourable to all who were elected or selected to a political office, all political appointees, contractors and all aides and agents of government officials. BUT for Nigerian masses expecting to see NEPA light, have employment, see food on their table, see good roads, have quality education etc, democracy is a failure. If democracy do not have CORRUPTION as its backbone in Nigeria, perhaps it could have been celebrated as a belessing
