Can You Insult Your Parents??? by Neduzze5(m): 4:59pm On Jun 02, 2013
I was at my uncle's home yesterday relaxing and resting after a hard days job.

I heard my uncle shouting at his last daughter. He had told her to do something. When she didn't do it, he came to shout at her.

Up till now, I'm still doubting if my ears really heard her well but I believe I heard her say something like "Leave me alone".

I was shocked and was coming out of the room in order to give her a resounding slap when I saw her father chasing her with a broom.

He caught up with her and flogged her on her back with the broom. She ran away and from a far distance started insulting him calling him "idiot, stupid man, thunder fire you".

Mogbe!!

12 years old girl for that matter. Her dad left her so me too do face like say I no see anything.

Back to the topic, can you insult your father or mother inspite of whatever they do to you??

Proverbs 20:20.............whoso insult his/her father or mother, his/her lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness.
However......
Ephesians 6:4..........and you fathers(and mothers) provoke not your children to wrath(anger) but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

Inasmuch as it is very wrong for children to insult their parents, the parents also should endearvor to train their children in the fear of God and in such a way that their morales/self esteem are not tampered with or destroyed.

Op,Why will the father here have to run after the girl with broom before he can correct her, it means something has been wrong with their relationship all along. The father supposed to have adopted a more matured approach to correcting the girl.
May God help them and all of us.

I believe this is more about parental upbringing and not if you can insult your parents or not. The girl in question is a 12-year old and the people commenting here are older.

I wonder what kind of relationship the father has with her for her to be insulting him like that. I am sure there is a lapse somewhere.

She child lacks proper parental upbringing.

The girl in question is a product of her environment.she's used to such act,and the father did little to correct her early.

Insult my mum?never!she's is the best that happened to me.
