Chapter 63

The following day, I left for Accra without telling Daisy. She had promised to see me off but I didn't see the need.
Before I left, I packed my car at the extreme end of our compound where it could not prevent any other car from leaving, covered it with Taupolin and left the keys for my cousin.
I also went to Trade fair complex and withdrew N200,000. I added the remaining N80, 000 I had left from my old money and changed them to US Dollars.

I boarded an ABC transport Luxurious bus and paid N5000. Beside my seat was Chinelo, an Igbo girl who claimed to be a student in Accra. She was returning to school according to her. We chatted casually until we got to Seme border where our international passports were taken from us for clearances.

Chinelo was 24 years old girl from Imo state. I didn't believe her story of being a student judging by the kind of tattoos, lipstick and paints on her toe nails. She also wore bangles on her legs. She was more like a sexx worker in Accra but that wasn't my business. But it was very good to be on alert.

As soon as we crossed the Seme border, more serious discussions ensured.

''What are you going to Ghana to do'' she asked.
I told her I was going on vacation and that I would spend up to two weeks before returning to Nigeria.
She said serious studies had not started in school and that she would love to hang around Accra city with me..

Great! The God of Ozoigbondu had done it again.
It all seemed to me that I cannot run away from women nomatter where I run to. Although I had the options of turning down advances from girls but sometimes it wasn't as easy as it sounded.

''I am going to stay with my cousin in his apartment. I don't think he will like the idea of showing up in his doors with a lady'' I said.

She said we could go to a cheap hotel and lodge. According to her, she knew cheap hotels where we could stay at a very cheap rate. She also said she had some money to pay.

Things were getting interesting.

''Lets see what happens when we get to Accra'' I said.

We talked until she slept.
We got to Accra that evening and stopped at a place called Tudu. I called my cousin. He came with a taxi and took us to his place.
When we got to his place, he was excited to see me... I wanted to ask for permission to hang there with Chinelo but I knew that I won't have enough space to operate. He was older than me and he had joined one Nigerian imported Church in Ghana. He could be angered by the continuous presence of Chinelo.

I gave him my bag and $1500 to keep for me, then I told him that I was going out with Chinelo and that I might not return until the next day.
I also borrowed 50,000 Ghana Cedis from him. I didn't know what it was worth but I was sure it could be of great help.

I took $1000 with me.
It was so true that Chinelo looked fine and matured but I didn't trust her a bit. I wasn't scared of whatever might happen as well but it was necessary that I monitor her as much as I could.
We went took a cab down to the Kwame Nkruma park and rented a hotel near the place.

She took her bath, changed and said she was hungry. We walked out of the hotel and found a Nigerian owned restaurant.

We sat opposite each other and ate Rice with Tomato sauce and beef.

''Opportunities present themselves everyday - to everyone. We just have to be on alert and ready to act''

Chapter 64

After eating, we went back upstairs. It was time for me to take my bath.

I removed my T shirt and jean trousers and left it on top of the bed. I wore just the boxers and went to the bathroom.

The weather was cool, therefore I mixed hot and cold water and sprinkled them on my body with the liquid soap I had found in the hotel. It took me about 12 minutes to finish.
When I returned to the room, Chinelo was not there. I became alerted instantly. There was no need to call her name since the room was just plain. I rushed to my Jean trousers and touched the pocket, the $1000 was no longer there. The remaining Cedis from the hotel payment was gone too. The worst of it all was my phone. It was not there.

I stood like a zombie in the middle of the room not knowing the next thing to do. It occurred to me that she may not have gone far, therefore, I rushed into my clothes and ran downstairs

There! Down the street was Chinelo entering a taxi. I wanted to shout for the cab to stop but they were over 200 meters down the road. Before I could began to chase them, the cab surged forward and moved away. I looked up to see if another cab was coming but I saw non.
4101 was boldly written on the back of the cab. I made a mental note and went back to the hotel.

I confronted the receptionist right away and demanded to know why he allowed the lady to leave without me. He was shocked. I told him what had happened. He called the hotel manager who asked that I came to his office.

I went up to the fourth floor where the manager's office was located. He apologized for what happened and asked how I met the lady.

''We had boarded the same bus from Lagos this morning'' I said.

He called the Police and reported the case. Two Police officers showed up some minutes later and took my statement. They also checked on the hotel CCTV cameras and found the rat. They took still images of her and promised to track her down.

There was no need for me to remain in the hotel, therefore I decided to go. However the problem was that my Motorola Razor phone where I had saved my cousin's number was also taken. I explained to the manager that I was leaving. He offered to refund me half of the money I paid since I explained to him that I had no more money with me...

I walked down the direction their taxi had followed and found a business center. I called my elder brother in Nigeria and told him I had traveled to Ghana for business. He gave me my cousin Chike's number again and I called him. I told him where I was and he told me the name of the place where he lived. It was already getting dark, as a result, I hired a cab and drove home.

I explained what happened to my cousin and the fanatic said he had dreamt about it. He narrated how God had shown him what will happen and asked that I joined him in their Church for the duration of my stay in Ghana; I declined. I was home already and I still had $1500 in my bag. People should only go to Churches when there had no money or hope.

I wasn't hungry that night, I was angry for being careless. How on earth did I forgot the money in my pocket? How about my phone?

The only consolation was that I usualy saved all my phone numbers in a simcard and keep it, however, the simcard where all my numbers were saved was in Lagos. I was just empty there in Accra and I pitied myself.

Daisy was never going to forgive me. I was going to find a way to get her number.

After enough drink that night, I slept and had a dream.

In the dream, Chinelo was chasing me with Cutlass. She was shouting that I had stolen her money. When she nearly hit me with the weapon, I woke up abruptly. I was supposed to be chasing Chinelo and not the other way round.

I remained awake and thought about how I defeated madam Grace, how I manipulated Jose and how I defeated the entire Arabs in Brandenburg. How could Chinelo took my money and my phone and disappeared. If not that I had heard her speaking Igbo, I wouldn't have believed that an Igbo girl could do that to me. Apparently, there were good and bad people in every corner of the World.

Right there in the room, I decided that I was going after CHINELO on my own; police or no Police.
I didn't have a plan on how to do that yet but I knew that when the day broke, I was going to have a more relaxed mind and figure out how to go after her. Chinelo had just made a mistake and unless she left Accra, I was going to dig her out of wherever she was hiding. I had time on my hand and the chase was going to be exciting.
A thousand dollars and a motorola wasnt that much but it could have been my international passport or even my entire bag if I had not left it with my cousin. I recalled how it was her that proposed that we sleep together in Ghana. I should have seen the hand writing on the wall from then but they said that ''Whoever the gods wants to kill, they first make him deaf''

' A crying child who said that his mother will not sleep, He himself will not sleep too''

Chapter 65

As soon as it was 8am the next morning, I copied the address of where I was staying and went into town. I bought a new Nokia phone and Ghana simcard. I called my cousin and got the number of my cousin in Lagos, the one who stayed with me in Ojo. I called Lagos and told him to find Daisy's number for me... He said he didn't know Daisy but I told him where their house was located. He promised to get it when he returned from Market.

I stopped a taxi and asked where the Ghana ministry of transport was located. The cab took me there. I walked to the first office and waited for my turn. When it was my turn, I approached the fat black lady sitting behind the desk and told her that I had forgotten my bag in a cab with number 4101. She pressed some keyboard combinations and told me the company where the taxi was registered. She gave me their address too. I took another taxi to the company. It was located in the Tudu area.

The office of the cab company was located on the ground floor of a large building. A very dark man was seated behind the desk. I introduced myself as Mr Zuby and told him that I needed the phone number of the man who drove taxi number 4101. After writing my name down, he gave me the phone number. I thanked him and left the office. 100 meters down the road, I called the cab driver. His name was Wakaso. He said he was out of town but would return in an hour.

I walked down to a shopping mall and browsed inside the shops while waiting for the cab driver. He called me an hour and half later and said he was in Tudu area. We met at the Spare parts market area.

''Mr Wakaso, I am going to ask you a straight question which will fetch you $20 Dollars if you give me the answer that I need'' I said to him.

''Master what is it'' he said.

''You picked up a girl at the Golden Gate hotel yesterday evening. I forgot my phone inside her bag and I couldn't find her. I want to know where you dropped her off'' I said.

''Ah Master, she stopped at Adama avenue where prostitutes stand on the road'' He said.
He described the place but I told him that I didn't know it.
Adama avenue was near the Ghana national Museum.

I opened my wallet and handed him a $20 bill.

''This is for the answer you gave me but I need to go there and see if I could find her'' I said.
We drove north-west to the area and found nobody there. He said the prostitutes usually came out in the evening. He also pointed to a hotel down the road where they usually took their customers to. I thanked him, paid him off and walked inside the hotel.
It was a sub standard hotel with dirty rooms and old wall air conditioners.

I walked into the reception and asked to see their rooms. The brown tooth middle aged man took me upstairs to the rooms and showed them to me. None of them was good enough but I was not there for pleasure. I paid for a room from the Cedis I had gotten from the exchange market in Tudu while I was waiting for the cab man.

After the payment, I walked down and out of the hotel. There was nothing to do, therefore I took the bus down to the beach and sat on the sand while looking into the deep blue sea. It was wonderful to watch nature. There were very few people at the beach since it was just past 12pm, girls with skimpy dresses showing of their bodies, few white people on dark eye glasses, some middle eastern men sitting under coconut trees and some Africans walking up and down the beach.

The beach triggered the memories of Efuah, the first Ghanaian woman I had dated back in 2001. She had married a Ghanaian when I traveled to Germany. She lived in United Kingdom with my daughter.
Later in the afternoon, I walked to a small bar near the beach and wanted to drink some whiskey. The problem was that I needed a clear head to operate in the night. I had a feeling I was going to meet Chinelo. I was going to make sure I tracked her down in Accra. She must pay for the insult.
As a result, I decided to buy a can of water and drank it while walking along the ocean. I wanted to ride a horse but I wasn't in the mood to enjoy myself. The rat had destroyed my entire trip to Ghana and I regretted giving her that opportunity.

About 4pm, I called My cousin back in Lagos. He said he had not returned from Idumota. I reminded him to get me Daisy's number as soon as he returned. Zainab and others can wait until I returned to Lagos.

Chapter 66

As soon as it was 5pm, I walked out of the beach and bought a face-cap. I wore it and pulled down the peak to cover my face, then I called a cab and drove back to the hotel. I took my bath from the water I saw in a bucket inside the room. When I finished dressing up, I walked down to their shabby bar and sat down. I ordered a bottle of Soda and waited at a semi dark corner. I watched as ladies and men came into the hotel, do whatever business they came to do and walked out again. Before an hour, I had seen a particular girl came into the hotel with three different men. The hotel was what they said it was; a prostitutes den.

Around 7pm, I walked out to the noisy bar down the road where people drank too. I sat there and bought another bottle of Soda and waited. There was no sight of Chinelo. At a time, I wondered if I had lost her but I had hope. The chase for Chinelo had become part of my vacation. It was better than being encroached by Young Lagos women. When I couldn't find Chinelo, I decided to walk past the joint where numerous girls stood waiting for customers.
Some of them called on me to come but I just walked past, hoping to catch a glimpse of anyone who resembled Chinelo.

When I got tired, I walked back to the hotel room and slept. Chinelo probably still had some money and would find it difficult to look for more through sexx work. Tomorrow was another day.

When I got to the hotel room, I called Lagos and got Daisy's number from my cousin. He had narrated to me, how difficult it was before he got the number. Somehow, he had asked the wrong jealous apprentice for the number and in return, the apprentice had gone inside and alerted Daisy's mother about a man outside looking for Daisy.
The mother had come out blazing fire and when she calmed down, my cousin had told her that it was me who wanted the number from Ghana. She had apologized and had given out the number by herself.

''You are wicked, you traveled since yesterday and switched off your phone. You didn't care to call me, you didn't even love me'' Daisy said as soon as she picked my call and found out it was from me...

I didn't know how to explain to her that a lady had stolen my phone from my hotel room. It was going to be a long story that required to many explanations. As a result, I just cut off the line and switched off my phone.

I slept until 2am and woke up. Sleep had left me and my mind had been filled with Chinelo, Daisy and the Money that I had lost.
I switched back my phone and two messages got delivered. Both were from Daisy. She was sorry for shouting at me and wanted me to forgive her. The second was that she had been trying my number but it was switched off. My phone rang before I could finish reading the second message. It was Daisy. I guessed that the delivery report had alerted her that my phone was back on.
''Hello sweetheart, I am missing you here'' I said calmly.
I didn't want to dwell on the issue of her ranting when I first called. I had learnt that women generally acted on impulse.

''Baby I am sorry. I shouldn't have said what I said to you''. She said and kept quiet.

I told her to go back to sleep and call me in the morning. It was time for me to think on what to do next. I knew that Chinelo was hiding somewhere in Accra with my money. She must be enjoying drug money that she had stolen from me but she would pay someday soon.

I slept again and woke up around 8am. I called my cousin in Ghana and told him why I didn't return home last night. I made him understand that I may not return again for the coming night. He advised me to hand the case over to God and come home.
How on earth would God listen to me? First of all, the money was from drugs, secondly we were warned to stay away from Prostitutes somewhere in the book of Proverbs. Since I didn't heed the warning, I shouldn't expect any mercies from God. Which is why I was going to fight the war without expecting any favours from him.

Some minutes to 10 am, I showered, paid for another night, walked down to the street to look for food. I found a Ghanaian restaurant and ordered for rice. I wanted to taste their dishes too. White rice was white rice everywhere, however the tomatoes sauce tasted differently front what I was used to. There was too much oil in it. I ate half of the food and ate my fish, drank my water and stood up. I wasn't satisfied yet, I needed to eat more food.

I walked down the road and conered left. Then I saw a place that resembled Mr. Biggs. I went in. They sold the same thing as Mr. Biggs. I bought burger and sat at a corner to eat, then I saw her. The rat that took my money. She was with a man. They came inside the hall and went to the counter to order their food. She was holding my black Motorola Razor phone with her left hand.
My first impulse was to jump up and grab her with the phone but since I had no evidence that she stole it from me,, I had to remain cautious. I also didn't know how Ghanaians act over theft. The tide could turn around and go against me despite being the owner of the phone.

They had paid for the food and left. I stood up as soon as they left and followed them. The man had come with a car but luckily for me, there were waiting cabs in front of the place. I took one and ordered him to follow them slowly. As we followed them, I told the driver what had happened. He was angry even over a matter that didn't concern him. He complained that a lady had once did the same to his elder brother who returned from Holland.
It was time for to find out more about the rat.
