Some students of Federal College of Education (Technical), Akoka, Lagos State and 80 Niger Delta ex-militants running a one-year programme at the institution have clashed .

PUNCH Metro learnt that trouble started after an ex-militant allegedly slapped a female student.

Our correspondent learnt that a school official who attempted to intervene was also allegedly slapped by another ex-militant.

The incident degenerated into  a free-for-all, with many people sustaining injuries on Monday.

The registrar's office was also said to have been vandalised .

When our correspondent visited the institution on Tuesday, policemen attached to MOPOL 2 were stationed at the entrance of the gate.

The secretary of the Student Union Government of the school, Saheed Ridwan, told PUNCH Metro that the students had decided that they no longer wanted the ex-militants on the school's premises.

He said, "The ex-militants joined our school in February and initially, we were not having problems. However, a few weeks ago, there was a fight between some students and ex-militants over alleged stolen money and we settled it.

"On Monday, a female student was eating at a restaurant at Aluta Ground when an ex-militant told her to move because there wasn't much space. An argument ensued and he slapped her. An official, one Mr. Segun, was slapped by another ex-militant.

"A fight broke out and there was blood-shed. The police have however restored sanity but the students have said they no longer want the ex-militants in the school."

Meanwhile, it was learnt that one of the ex-militant, identified as Dudu, has been arrested by policemen at Bariga Division for allegedly harassing an employee of Lagoon Hotel, Akoka.

PUNCH Metro learnt that ex-militants schooling at the institution were lodged at Lagoon Hotel by the Federal Government.

Spokesperson for the state police command, Ngozi Braide, confirmed the disturbance in the school, adding that peace had been restored.

Braide said the militant was arrested for making sexual advances at an employee of the hotel.

"The ex-militant, was arrested for making sexual advances at an employee of a hotel near the school," she said.

That what happens when you mix educated folks with terrorists. What's wrong with building a specialized institution for terrorists granted amnesty.

Well said.

These guys have no business being mixed with normal students. They don't bring nothing but trouble.

The question is, do they really want to go to school? Seems like they are being forced. And why did they have to put them in a technical college in Lagos. Is there no technical college in the niger delta? This is how they took them abroad and they showed themselves too. They need to ask them what exactly they want to do. i dont think school is part of it as these old men just want to spend money. So they are lodged in hotels, while so many promising Niger Deltan's are looking for opportunity. na wa o. What rubbish.

If they send them abroad most of you will complain. If you think most of these young men are not educated, then you are missing the point of amnesty. Calling them terrorists is just childish, but if that rocks your boat then knock yourself out.. Figure out why there was a problem and resolve it. The alternative is to send them to another training school abroad.

If you observe the lifestyle of these miscreants in the creeks, you'd understand they don't fit in an academic environment. They're yet to be fully absorbed into the society, therefore they're not ready for education.

Methinks they (militants) got bored with all the academic palaver, and thus resorted to dishing out dirty slaps willy-nilly to make their feelings known.

Why can't the Government build floating schools in the creeks so these militants don't have to go all the way to Lagos to get Educated.Poor militants, I'll be frustrated and start slapping everyone around me too if I have to be Schooling in Lagos.

The same scenenario played out in IUO last year which resulted to vandalisation of cars, looting of student properties and lots of bloodshed with many students hospitalized coupled with school officials receiving slaps.. The govt should just build their own Uni or admit them all in NDU..According to them they are "federal govt pikins" so they are untouchable...Old men that leave their walking sticks and grand children in the creeks be oppressing students anyhow....pfft!!! angry

Nigeria: a country with twisted logic.
Re: Niger-delta Militants, Students Clash In Lagos by thehomer: 1:46pm On Jun 27, 2013
Why were they lodged in a hotel rather than apartments? This is just more waste and fraud. These people should be trying to be independent and one would think that apartments would be the better choice.
