There should be right to dissenting views. All senators should be accorded the right to free expression of thoughts without fear or hood-winking. From reports, its obvious few elements in the hallowed chamber loyal to the President are bent on 'swaying' the voices of the majority. In such situations like this people will rather defend their honour by loosing their head than been cowarded by their sell-out colleagues. It's an anomaly to wish to surplant the voices of the majority in a democracy. Anarchy will definite loom when will change the rule midway down the game. Those who make peaceful resolutions unachievable makes violence inevitable. Someone just talked about REVOLUTION.....let's get to rumble! |

It seems the more physical and spiritual power you have, the farther you'll go politically in Nigeria. Intellectual power doesn't count much these days. At least i know that to get into PDP, you have to list how many boxing matches you have won or how many street fights you have engaged in.SMH |

Re: Senators Fight Over State Of Nation Address by kingjoe(m): 5:53am On Jul 04, 2013 |
we should change our values in this country, this is our culture, lets stop pretending.in the home, family members tend to surport those that hv the means to help them whether its right or not,in the community,a rich man is extoled,in the church he is made an elder , deacon or chairman of comitee.during elections people do so many things wrong,u hv to be rich or have a godfather to win in this country. What is hapening in the senate is the reflection of our nation.we need to change this, lets learn to accept defeat, accept opposing views on matters, and put the welfare ofthe nation first before personal aggrandizement. |

PEN_MIGHT: There should be right to dissenting views. All senators should be accorded the right to free expression of thoughts without fear or hood-winking. From reports, its obvious few elements in the hallowed chamber loyal to the President are bent on 'swaying' the voices of the majority. The report does was not balanced. The reason there was so much noise was that the Senate was not unanimous on their decision. The truth be told, the bill violate provision of the constitution. And the President pointed the attention of the National Assembly to such violation. Rather than taking a cursory look at the violation, seek legal opinions and look for how to go around it, some people are calling for override of President's assent. Moreover, Ita Enang made a very salient point when he said the national assembly should approach Supreme Court to ask the court whether the Executive can suggest an amendment to a bill since the executive is not part of the process of making the bill. I think its time to test some of these things in court. Especially on our budget, do the National Assembly have the power to include projects in the budget since they are not part of the budget making process and they are not going to implement the budget. 2 Likes |
