nous: Gosh, many people have comprehension problem (that is what happens when your objectivity is blinded). See the way they are castigating the FG as if it was the FG that sued the Lagos state government.
THE FG IS ALSO A DEFENDANT IN THE CASE.
This is not a FG vs LG case.
People please read with understanding.

I was wondering too...

na wa o. See the first few posters writing epistle on misconceptions. That's the reason why Buhari will say something today & journalists will write another thing. No one bothers to read anymore! Sad.

Anyway, for those who are still too lazy to go back to the article and read, it is Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa to took Lagos State & the FG to court. So for once LASG & FG are on the same side.....even tho I won't be surprised if the FG decides to present a defence that spells ''OYO'' (On Your Own) for the LASG.

Lagos state gov saw the need to construct a bridge on a federal waterway to ease the traffic in the state, built the bridge and tolled the bridge after completion.
Lagosians have the option to either use the longer existing route freely or use the shorter newly constructed route.

Already, Lagos gov has successfully reduced the traffic on the old route, such that citizens that don't care about the tolling of the new bridge won't pass the old one, and the fact that many Lagosians are always in haste means many will go for the tolled bridge, leaving the old for the common Lagosians. Thereby splitting the traffic.

What has the federal government been doing all these years that it was obvious that a bridge is needed on that waterway to ease traffic?
If the federal government had constructed the bridge, will the Lagos state gov go ahead to toll the bridge?

Looks like the federal government is discouraging the state government in taking up responsibilities that they(fg) are incompetent of.

The FG shouldn't have mentioned anything related to the bridge, because it is their incompetent @ss that Lagos government is saving.

No sane human will pass through or see the bridge and won't appreciate the brain behind it. In short the Federal government is envious of Lagos state.

Point of correction! Former Delta State Governor James Ibori, constructed four (4)bridges in Delta State During his term in office, Godswill Akpabio, constructed a bridge, both of them never imposed toll fees on the usage of the bridges. This is the first time Lagos State Government has constructed a bridge in the Federal Water ways and imposed toll fees because FG failed to construct it. All the infrastructures in Lagos were constructed by FG. Is Lagos the only state in Nigeria? When will other states get their share of infrastructural development from FG? Let Lagos State Government do something for once without imposing tax. It's becoming too much, nonsense!!!!!!!!!!!

So many educated illiterates here, suit is to remove the toll not 'envy'. By the way, is Federal Government not giving Lagos State approx. 30 billion naira monthly to build bridges and other things ? Abi the 30 billion is pocket money to Fashola ? Ingrates!

KINGwax: u shld ask why england, whom her citizens pay as much as 40% in tax still pay tolls for bridges.
Most times u guys talk without reasoning!

The simple reason for tollin is

1. To discourage congestion on the new bridge

2. Free space for the old lane

3. Collect more cash from the rich who are not complaing anyway

4. Use the same cash to provide free amenities for u poor Id!ots that evade taxes and still want free things!!!
U are an Otele.

IF THE TOLL CONTINUE. It will transfer to other infrastructures built by the state øo. People are paying for tax. FG is giving allocation to Lagos bigger than other states. So y wud the collect tolls are they criminals

So many people lack comprehension abilities...

Lemme break it down simply.

The suit on the toll collection was filed by a civil rights lawyer against LASG.. FG is a defendant in this case not a prosecutor!!.

FG is with LASG on this!!!

crap, its a strong message to fashola, use tax payer's money to build bridges and dont toll it.
this idea of bringing a crony as a private partner to justify the toll is crappy.

Lagos is the only place in the world where a residential road is tolled.
Also the only place where tolling is on while road construction is stil WIP.
The only place where the firm collecting the toll is not accountable to the govt, public or anyone.

The question is can u build a house on another man's land and ask him for rent. If we are to pay toll for every public amenities, then whats is the use of our taxes.
With 21 billion, is fashola/tinubu berate of ideas on what to do with such money....? It could have been invested in the state water project, or the light rail project or housing scheme. 21 billion for a small bridge......well, this lagos

why does lagos collect taxes to get Internally generated revenue?

They are both monies collected from citizens. Tolls are unjustified where people pay Tax.

Please don't mention England here, or any foreign country. If u wanna use example for me, use African country. Thanks.

Ethnocentric has robbed us the sense of objectivity,is it not the FG that constructed the bridges in Lagos. Why say the Federal Government can not provide infrastructural facilities for Lagosians,Lagos state has had its fair share from the FG. Those who run LASG will soon sell the air that you breath for free in a short time. But I know a time is coming, very soon, that you will all beg the FG to come rescue you from the hands of these petty bourgeoisie.

Well, the bridge is a good innovation but the citizens should not always be exploited. After all, it's their corporate responsibility to provide social amenities.
