The Nigerian Army has confirmed claims made by Major Hamza al-Mustpha that he is still personnel of the Nigerian Army.

At a briefing by the joint security information committee, the Director of Army Public relations who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Colonel Joe Agim, said that Major Al-Mustapha, the Chief Security Officer to late General Sani Abacha, is still enlisted in the Nigerian Army.

“With regards to Mustapha’s release, well, I want to confirm that he is still in the army” he stated.

“The case is going to be handled by the army administratively in line with the harmonised terms and conditions of service.’’

He goes on to add that his case will be handled administratively by the Army in line with the harmonized terms of service.

Major Hamza al-Mustapha and Lateef Shofolahan were on Friday discharged and acquitted in the case of the assassination of Alhaja Kudirat Abiola, which last 14 years.

The former CSO admitted to journalists that he was still in Army on Sunday during his reception by the Kano state government, a status he claimed the Appeal Court Judges also confirmed in their ruling.

The director for Defence Intelligence, Brigadier-General Chris Olukolade dismissed claims of renewed threats made by Abubakar Shekau, leader of Boko Haram.

for those who dont know, The release of Al-Mustapha is a political strategy employed by Jonathan's men to gain political grounds in the north come 2015 election.

Considering the overwhelming support and crowd he pulled in Kano on his arrival, its a solid strategy by the President to gain acceptance amongst Northerners notwithstanding the number of innocent lives he took and families bearing the grunt.

It is all POLITICS!

Major Al-Mustapha was incarcerated on the order of the court and tried by the Lagos State government, why bringing the name of the President into what you clearly don't know about

Vicktor2015: He will be Promoted to Brigadier General.

Doesn't work that way. Under the OBJ criteria used to retire a lot political exposed officer after he came onboard 1999. Mustapha would have been retired. His course entry mates are either colonels or Brig general as long as they were able to meet army standards and promotion criteria. Mustapha has not met most of those standards, promotion is not automatic in the army..He also due for retirement 2017. The good news here for mustapha is his pension and back pay. What a windfall.

You took the words right out of my mouth.

If Al-mustapha gets to the rank of a general, Nigeria should get ready to experience another coup de etat...the main reason why he was imprisoned wasn't because of the crimes he was accused of. It was because general Abdusalam's government felt he was a threat to them.

Now the GEJ administration didn't just release him, they reinstated him back into the army...keeps getting interesting doesn't it?

Goc's are technically more powerful than the chief of army staff.
Reason: they control foot soldiers.
