The Media Should Ignore Boko Haram – Information Minister by 9aijahouse: 2:33pm On Jul 18, 2013

The Federal Government has called on the media to henceforth ignore dreaded Islamist sect, Boko Haram, and its activities.

Answering questions in Abuja on Wednesday on the recent controversy surrounding the government ceasefire deal with members of the sect, Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku, said it was time for the media to moderate the kind of space and time they devote to the sect if the government would make a headway in its anti-terrorism war.

Minister of Special Duties, Kabiru Turaki, who is also the Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Dialogue and Peaceful Resolution of Security Challenges in the North penultimate Monday said a ceasefire was reached on July 8 after talks with the group’s deputy leader, Mohammed Marwan.

But the leader of the sect, Abubakar Shekau, in a video message on Saturday denied Turaki’s claim.

Maku said since the antics of the terrorists was to create fear in the mind of Nigerians and create doubt on the success being recorded by security agencies in troubled parts of the country.

The onus lies on the media to ignore them, he said.

the minister of information shouldn't be the one to tell the media to stop any news on the boko harams. The government's success on campaign against the boko haram will definitely do.

So wherever boko haram menace is recorded shouldn't be published in the media or reported?
