I must state categorically that I am not trying to belittle our local musicians or badmouth them. But we often compare our local movies with the foreign ones and I think it's about time we compared our local artistes with the foreign ones. We'll do this by comparing the thing that matters most in any song which is the lyrics. I have two songs that I want us to compare: It will rain by Bruno Mars and Gobe by Davido. These are supposed to be two "love songs", but at the end of the day you'll see which one is truly a love song If you have both songs in your phone, just plug in your earphones and listen to the songs while you read the lyrics. I'm sure you'll have a better idea of what I'm saying. It Will Rain by Bruno Mars If you ever leave me baby, Leave some morphine at my door ‘Cause it would take a whole lot of medication To realize what we used to have, We don’t have it anymore. There’s no religion that could save me No matter how long my knees are on the floor So keep in mind all the sacrifices I’m makin’ Will keep you by my side Will keep you from walkin’ out the door. [Chorus] Cause there’ll be no sunlight If I lose you, baby There’ll be no clear skies If I lose you, baby Just like the clouds My eyes will do the same, if you walk away Everyday it will rain, rain, rain... I’ll never be your mother’s favorite Your daddy can’t even look me in the eye Oooh if I was in their shoes, I’d be doing the same thing Sayin there goes my little girl Walkin’ with that troublesome guy But they’re just afraid of something they can’t understand Oooh well little darlin’ watch me change their minds Yeah for you I’ll try I’ll try I’ll try I’ll try I’ll pick up these broken pieces ’til I’m bleeding If that’ll make you mine [Chorus] Cause there’ll be no sunlight If I lose you, baby There’ll be no clear skies If I lose you, baby Just like the clouds My eyes will do the same if you walk away Everyday it will rain, rain, rain... [Bridge] Don’t just say, goodbye Don’t just say, goodbye I’ll pick up these broken pieces ’til I’m bleeding If that’ll make it right [Chorus] Cause there’ll be no sunlight If I lose you, baby There’ll be no clear skies If I lose you, baby Just like the clouds My eyes will do the same if you walk away Everyday it will rain, rain, rain... Gobe by Davido Girl your behind is a killer I can see you’re sensual See gobe Omo see gobe When you wiggle and waver You must be intentional See gobe Omo see gobe Uhhh yea Mogbe o Don’t want any gbeke Mo ti bo sinu gobe Abi omo kilode o Baby I can tell Every action is a plot to Get down with this bobo Cos i know you feeling the boy See gobe Omo see gobe eh See gobe Omo see gobe eh See gobe Omo see gobe eh See me see gbege Ewa ba mi ri gobe Girl i love the way you look tonight I wanna put my hands on your waist Cos i’m loving your sexy body I won’t mind to have a taste Its feel like hangover E roll like jangirover Good will come to those who wait So I’m ready to sleep outside your gate….ohh we Ohhh eh mogbe Don’t want any gbege Mo ti bo sinu gobe Abi omo kilode Baby I can tell Every action is a plot to Get down with this bobo Cos i know you feeling the boy See gobe Omo see gobe…eh See me see gobe See gobe She wan give Davido the gobe Omo see gobe…eh Yea See me see gobe She say she wan give Davido gobe See gobe Omo see gobe….eh See me see gbeke E wa ba mi ri gobe Desperado lomo yen She wan go to go do some more She say make i give am gobe Alakoba ni omo Yeah Desperado lomo yen She wan go to go do some more She say make i give am gobe Alakoba ni omo Mogbe o Don’t want any gbege Mo ti bo sinu gobe Abi omo kilode o Baby I can tell Every action is a plot to Get down with this bobo Cos i know you feeling the boy See gobe Omo see gobe….eh See me see gobe See gobe She wan give Davido the gobe Omo see gobe….eh Yea See me see gobe She say she wan give Davido gobe See gobe Omo see gobe….eh See me see gbeke E wa ba mi ri gobe See gobe Omo see gobe….eh See me see gobe See gobe She wan give Davido the gobe Omo see gobe….eh Yea See me see gobe She say she wan give Davido gobe See gobe Omo see gobe….eh See me see gbege E wa ba mi ri gobe Maradonna lomo yen She wan go to go do some more Lionel Messi lomo yen She wan go to go do some more C. Ronaldo lomo yen She wan go to go do some more Okocha lomo yen She wan go to go do some more Roger Miller David beckham Obafemi martins lomo yen She wan go to go do some more Didier Drogba lomo Ewa ba mi ri gobe Its shizzy Davido No wonder no Nigerian musician has been able to win a grammy You can add your own. 37 Likes 1 Share |

Lol this is gonna be lovely. My favorite lyricist is John Mayer. I looooooooove his lyrics. He's got a wild personality but his lyrics are of another planet. He's the only musician that has made me shed a tear due to deep words. His music is poetry to me. He really is a musical genius. Here are his lyrics from "Edge of Desire": Edge of Desire by John Mayer Young and full of running Tell me where has that taken me? Just a great figure eight or a tiny infinity? Love is really nothing But a dream that keeps waking me For all of my trying, we still end up dying How can it be? Don't say a word, just come over and lie here with me 'Cause I'm just about to set fire to everything I see I want you so bad, I'll go back on the things I believe There I just said it, I'm scared you'll forget about me So young and full of running All the way to the edge of desire Steady my breathing, silently screaming I have to have you now Wired and I'm tired Think I'll sleep in my clothes on the floor Or maybe this mattress will spin on its axis And find me on yours Don't say a word, just come over and lie here with me 'Cause I'm just about to set fire to everything I see I want you so bad I'll go back on the things I believe There I just said it, I'm scared you'll forget about me Don't say a word, just come over and lie here with me 'Cause I'm just about to set fire to everything I see I want you so bad I'll go back on the things I believe There I just said it, I'm scared you'll forget about me SOURCE Can we compare this to Wizkid's "Tease Me"? Lol. Disclaimer: I no go lie. Na badt club tune but lyrics no dey am. Tease Me by Wizkid yeeeehhh girll hhaha fine girl, no pimple see i love ur swag < and i love your dimple, simple e ye ye ye e ye ye ye no one can test, cuz you da best u make me wanna , stop dis dance, am so obssesed just too see your face i can go to space girl come on girll no delay , i kno u can feel ma space , go come on girl, no delayy girl tease me tease me tease me tease me baby oh na na na na please me please me please me please me baby oh na na naa c'mon girl c'mon girl c'mon girl eh c'mon girl eh na me be bad guysumm dat fly guys , dat special types of fine guys , hmm dat shab guyz ,na me be hard guys hmmm honour your bad guyzz, dun kno bad guyzz hmmm just tease me tease me tease me tease me baby oo ah na ni ay tease me please me please me please me baby oo ann nii c'mon girl jus c'mon girl jus c'mon girl jus c'mon girl ehh i kno bad guyzz ohh i kno real bad guyzz , ohh na maybe shab guyz ,hmmm and i offer you bad guyzz, hmmmi bad guyzz hmm and i know some bad guyzz dat know some other guyzz , ohhh so csll me hard guy ohh na me be bad guyz ohh na me be bad guz ohh girll na me be bad guyz , cuz i kno bad guyz nd i kno bad guys skillz i kno bad guys sam klef nd i kno oda guys prince some bad guys ice prince nd i kno oda guyz dem ooo oda guys s.kellz nd i kno some guys L.T bad guyz Mee ha (chorus) nd i kno bad guys banky w bad guys lt bad guys me some bad guys my guys and i know oda guys o of dem guys SOURCE 11 Likes |

Ridiculous!! I'm not really a fan of naija music but this is utterly ridiculous. How about compare the ratchetness of Juicy J, Pitbull, Trinidad James, 2chains et al to naija artists? Compare like for like, mate!! - Nneka to Beyonce. - Asa to Kelly Rowland etc. 47 Likes |

One track is in 100% English while the other is a mix of English, pidgin English, Yoruba etc. Of course the first one will sound more like a straight up, conventional 'love song' as opposed to the more experimental/flexible tune by Davido. Worthless thread. 16 Likes |

ROSSIKE: VERY UNFAIR AND SENSELESS COMPARISON. Does language matter? Whether it's in English, pidgin, mandarin, Zulu, or Arabic, there is nothing "lovey dovey" about "your behind is a killa". Reminds me of Flavour's song and video for Kwarikwa Remix. He was looking a girl in her eyes singing "your front and behindiooo, e dey do me for body o". Tell me that on a date. Na hot slap I go consider as response, and I'm not a slapper. 11 Likes |
