There is no scripture mentioning Jesus "tithing." He makes an indirect comment to the religious leaders in Matt 23:23 and Luke 11:42 about not neglecting it, but that wasn't the actual point he was making. Even so, they were still under the Old Covenant, since Jesus had not died yet. So they were still required to tithe.

The "tithe" rule/law is Old Covenant and is fulfilled, as it is written in Hebrews 7:6-10. There is no more "tithe" because it was paid in full. Abraham paid Melchizedek, Levi was in Abraham, Melchizedek represented Christ (without beginning or end), so the levitical tithe was paid in full by faith (by the "father of faith"wink at the point that Abraham gave a tithe to Melchizedek and Melchizedek blessed him in return. The Old Covenant, levitical tithe, "collected by men who die," done over and over and over again, and consumed over and over and over again, did not accomplish a lasting redemptive effect. Now, we who are in Christ, are "blessed" once and for all, by faith. The riches of Melchizedek, "greater than Abraham," are ours in Christ, so that we can bless others without limit!

The book of Hebrews is a good book to read how the Old Covenant is fulfilled in the New Covenant and is now obsolete (Heb 8:13 explicitly uses the word "obsolete"wink, superseded by better promises by faith.

OC prophets' message is fulfilled in Heb 1. Jesus supersedes prophets.
OC message through angels in Heb 2. Jesus supersedes angels.
OC Moses is fulfilled in Heb 3. Jesus supersedes Moses.
OC Sabbath is fulfilled in Hebrews 3-4. "Sabbath rest" is "Today."
OC high priest is fulfilled in Heb 5-7. Jesus like "Melchizedek."
OC tithe is fulfilled in Heb 7. Tithe paid in full (by Abraham!)
OC itself is fulfilled in Heb 8. Now written on our "hearts" in Christ.
OC tabernacle/temple is fulfilled in Heb 9. No more buildings.
OC blood sacrifice is fulfilled in Heb 9-10. Blood of Christ.
Faith is basis in Heb 11-12. Our "inaugurator and consumator" is Jesus.
Sonship discipline of NC, not wrath of OC in Heb 12.
Return to the foundation of the NC gospel preachers, says Heb 13.

Often we hear people trying to pull Old Covenant things back into the New Covenant, as if it made sense to put new wine into old wineskins (Matt 9:17, Mark 2:22, Luke 5:37). In the case of the tithe, it often goes something like this:

"Tithing isn't a requirement, but it is a good rule to follow."

Well, substitute anything else from the Old Covenant into that. How about,

"Animal sacrifices aren't a requirement, but a good rule to follow."

Why not sacrifice animals? Sure, we now know that Jesus was the once for all sacrifice. But if the system of animal sacrifices wasn't evil, but good, ordained by God in the Old Covenant as a system of reminders and a foreshadowing to point forward to an ultimate sacrifice (what Jesus would do), then why not continue to sacrifice animals today, as a reminder of that same ultimate sacrifice (what Jesus did)?

In reality, we do have another ritual to do this. It's called the Lord's Supper, or Communion, using bread and wine, although it is not a "sacrifice," as the Roman Catholic Church would suppose.

So the Old Covenant mentality changes the sabbath day to Sunday, replaces the priest with a pastor, the tabernacle/temple with a "church" building, replaces the OC festivals with Sunday church programs, the tithe into a funding source for the pastor and church building and programs and "Levite" church employees, and then instead of "sonship" it preaches the wrath of God.

Now that we are sons, and given that God is the source of unlimited riches, we give to bless others, with God as the source, to further the Kingdom of God. "Tithing" is completely irrelevant, and is a distraction. Anyone who really thinks that they can "give 10% back to God" is probably not saved. God requires 100% (Matt 16:24, Mark 8:34, Luke 9:23).

People use this verse to claim that Jesus didn't condemn tithing
Matt 23:23

Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, justice, mercy, and faith: these ought you to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

Here's a similar thing:

Matt 8:3-4

Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. "I am willing," he said. "Be clean!" Immediately he was cured of his leprosy. Then Jesus said to him, "See that you don't tell anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift Moses commanded, as a testimony to them."

So anyone who says you must tithe because Jesus said so in Matt 23:23 or Luke 11:42 should instruct someone cured of a skin disease to do as Jesus said in Matt 8:4 and offer the gift that Moses commanded:

Lev 14:1-32

The Lord said to Moses, 2 “These are the regulations for the diseased person at the time of his ceremonial cleansing, when he is brought to the priest: 3 The priest is to go outside the camp and examine him. If the person has been healed of his infectious skin disease,[a] 4 the priest shall order that two live clean birds and some cedar wood, scarlet yarn and hyssop be brought for the one to be cleansed. 5 Then the priest shall order that one of the birds be killed over fresh water in a clay pot. 6 He is then to take the live bird and dip it, together with the cedar wood, the scarlet yarn and the hyssop, into the blood of the bird that was killed over the fresh water. 7 Seven times he shall sprinkle the one to be cleansed of the infectious disease and pronounce him clean. Then he is to release the live bird in the open fields.

8 “The person to be cleansed must wash his clothes, shave off all his hair and bathe with water; then he will be ceremonially clean. After this he may come into the camp, but he must stay outside his tent for seven days. 9 On the seventh day he must shave off all his hair; he must shave his head, his beard, his eyebrows and the rest of his hair. He must wash his clothes and bathe himself with water, and he will be clean.

10 “On the eighth day he must bring two male lambs and one ewe lamb a year old, each without defect, along with three-tenths of an ephah[b] of fine flour mixed with oil for a grain offering, and one log[c] of oil. 11 The priest who pronounces him clean shall present both the one to be cleansed and his offerings before the Lord at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.

12 “Then the priest is to take one of the male lambs and offer it as a guilt offering, along with the log of oil; he shall wave them before the Lord as a wave offering. 13 He is to slaughter the lamb in the holy place where the sin offering and the burnt offering are slaughtered. Like the sin offering, the guilt offering belongs to the priest; it is most holy. 14 The priest is to take some of the blood of the guilt offering and put it on the lobe of the right ear of the one to be cleansed, on the thumb of his right hand and on the big toe of his right foot. 15 The priest shall then take some of the log of oil, pour it in the palm of his own left hand, 16 dip his right forefinger into the oil in his palm, and with his finger sprinkle some of it before the Lord seven times. 17 The priest is to put some of the oil remaining in his palm on the lobe of the right ear of the one to be cleansed, on the thumb of his right hand and on the big toe of his right foot, on top of the blood of the guilt offering. 18 The rest of the oil in his palm the priest shall put on the head of the one to be cleansed and make atonement for him before the Lord.

19 “Then the priest is to sacrifice the sin offering and make atonement for the one to be cleansed from his uncleanness. After that, the priest shall slaughter the burnt offering 20 and offer it on the altar, together with the grain offering, and make atonement for him, and he will be clean.

21 “If, however, he is poor and cannot afford these, he must take one male lamb as a guilt offering to be waved to make atonement for him, together with a tenth of an ephah[d] of fine flour mixed with oil for a grain offering, a log of oil, 22 and two doves or two young pigeons, which he can afford, one for a sin offering and the other for a burnt offering.

23 “On the eighth day he must bring them for his cleansing to the priest at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting, before the Lord. 24 The priest is to take the lamb for the guilt offering, together with the log of oil, and wave them before the Lord as a wave offering. 25 He shall slaughter the lamb for the guilt offering and take some of its blood and put it on the lobe of the right ear of the one to be cleansed, on the thumb of his right hand and on the big toe of his right foot. 26 The priest is to pour some of the oil into the palm of his own left hand, 27 and with his right forefinger sprinkle some of the oil from his palm seven times before the Lord. 28 Some of the oil in his palm he is to put on the same places he put the blood of the guilt offering—on the lobe of the right ear of the one to be cleansed, on the thumb of his right hand and on the big toe of his right foot. 29 The rest of the oil in his palm the priest shall put on the head of the one to be cleansed, to make atonement for him before the Lord. 30 Then he shall sacrifice the doves or the young pigeons, which the person can afford, 31 one[e] as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering, together with the grain offering. In this way the priest will make atonement before the Lord on behalf of the one to be cleansed.”

32 These are the regulations for anyone who has an infectious skin disease and who cannot afford the regular offerings for his cleansing.

Aren't we blessed to be free from the requirements of the Law of Moses?
Re: The Truth About Tithing by staggerman(m): 9:36am On Jul 22, 2013
The Jews that Jesus was addressing in Matt 23:23 and Luke 11:42 with regard to the tithe were under the requirement of the Law of Moses until the cross, just like the lepers that Jesus was addressing in Matt 8:4 were under the requirement of the Law of Moses until the cross; the lepers had a prescribed offering to make as well. That's why we have to be careful, because the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John describe many things as they were before the cross, when the Old Covenant was still in force.

We are now under grace and led by the Spirit. "If you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law." (Gal 5:18) So there is no "tithe."

Now go to the book of Acts and all the epistles and see if you can find a "tithe." The apostle Paul writes two whole chapters on the subject of giving in 2 Cor 8 and 2 Cor 9 and never mentions a tithe. In 1 Cor 16 he even instructs his audience to "set aside a sum of money in keeping with your income" and never mentions a tithe. He also says that he gave the "Galatian churches" the same instruction. In Acts 2:44-45 and Acts 4:32-37, we see believers sharing everything they had with each other, not tithing. There is just no such thing as tithing under the New Covenant.

Again, the Old Covenant tithe was already fulfilled in a single, one time offering to Melchizedek by Abraham (Heb 7:6-10). The heart and intent behind giving is what we need to focus on, not an Old Covenant regulation that was already fulfilled in Melchizedek long before Moses was even born!

You see a need, you give, and God will supply.

To compare Matthew 23:23 to Matthew 8:4 is a excellent step to show that Jesus lived under the law and upheld it. In fact it is his fulfilling the law that releases us from keeping minute aspects of the law and entering into the liberties of sons that allows us to be led by the spirit.

Tithing is obsolete, defunct and gone with the Moses.

Just in case you are not aware, some of our Christian brothers & sisters (including pastors) went with Moses as well.

U are spoiling these pastors business hahaha

In fact u r very right
the blood Jesus poured marked the end of the law. We no longer leave by law but by undeserved kindness of God thru the blood of Jesus. The greatest law of all is 'Love' for God and for ur neighbor but these pastors cos of selfish interest will not make the truth known.

The sacrifice of the Lamb of God is enough. The money of man cannot appease God
