Exactly, this was my situation in 2005 when my wife was in labour and the progression was not normal. As a Deeper Lifer, our brethren in the church were praying and my/her siblings were adamantly telling the Doctors that it was not in our lineage to deliver through Caesarean section (a surgical operation for delivering a child by cutting through the wall of the mother's abdomen).

To the surprise of them all, when I heard about it I took permission from office, rush down to the hospital and signed for Caesarean section and within twenty to thirty minutes my wife was delivered of a bouncing baby boy.

Sometimes, delay is dangerous.

ACM10:

He is gone. Hard to know the choices I would have made if I were in his shoes. But with what I know, I would have given consent for amputation. It's a sad loss. We are still in shock.

Eziachi, I had a minor dislocation about two weeks ago. The excruciating pain I went through was hell. I empathize with you, Ez.

ACM10: Get well soon Dr Eziachi. I thank God that you took the right decision to amputate the dead limb. ...

He was only 36yrs with 4 kids. The youngest is 3 weeks old. He refused to heed my advice that half-life is better than half-death. So, I congratulate you for taking the wise decision. It is well with you.

shocked shocked shocked Sorry to hear about your loss! Things they happen oo!

Sorry to hear about your surgery.
Wishing you a quick recovery.

Eziachi: Hello people, due to serious health reasons I will be signing off for a while. I HAD AN ABOVE THE KNEE AMPUTATION OF MY LEFT LEG ON WEDNESDAY at my own hospital in central London. The surgeon was my own son, which made it a bit comforting. The leg had been problematic for a long time and I had used all my knowledge and skill as an orthopaedic to managed it until now when it worsen, I was told two weeks ago that the leg is now almost dead and had to go.

I have performed this surgery on hundreds of people over a span of forty odd years, but still, it was mentally challenging waking up for the first time as an amputee. So I will be reading your posts when I can, but will be signing off for a while. You take care.

payless: The Lord is your strenngth. Get well soon Sir!

Your are a gentleman for sharing person problem with us. Kudos!

My wife has been an amputee (below the knee) for 2 years. It was not easy in the first 6 months. She lost her leg on Christmas day 2010 to systemic lupus after 4 years of excruciating pain in both legs. My wife is a beautiful lady but this illness has turned her to a 60 year old woman with grey hair, she is only 32. Imagine having 4 different specialist doctors attending to your sickness.

I am really sorry to hear about this sad situation! I pray that God gives your wife good health and strength to carry on, and you love, strength, resources and may all your needs be supplied by God to his glory! I wish you both really well.

Very few people here are below the age of 28.

Meanwhile, eziachi isn't bigot, he's not on the level of willywilly.

sincerenigerian:

I wouldn't blame the guy for refusing to the amputation. I was exactly like that when the doctors made the decision to amputate my wife's leg on Chrismas day of 2010. I refused to accept it because I could not imagine something of that magnitude happening to my wife, but as I was crying and wailing, my wife said they should go ahead and amputate the leg. Our kids were 2 and 3 years old then and we just started to enjoy our lives. But doctors said she was likely to die within days because blood was not flowing through the veins in the leg. Her blood began to cloth in various parts of the body. She was put on blood thinner for some time and up till this day she is still on high dose of blood thinner.

We are still not out of the wood yet. The sickness almost claimed the second leg recently but God saved the second leg. The sickness (systemic lupus) is deadly. It has recently affected the kidney and we are just hoping for the best.

This thing is financially and emotionally draining. God is our strength.

Bro sorry oo. That's serious.
But how do you find time for NL and making jest amidst all these?

Nndo Eziachi. May your healing process be as rapid and painless as possible. Looking for a silver lining to the dark cloud of unease brought about by this traumatic development, may I just add that modern prosthetic limbs are marvels of lightweight flexibility that will, after some dedicated practice on your part, enable you to walk without any trace of a limp in your gait, whereby your lifestyle will continue with virtually uninterrputed normalcy.

@payless aka THE REAL SINCERE NIGERIAN

Believe me, I know how you feel. Be strong man.

@ ACM10:
I lost a dear friend in a similar situation some years back when we were in school. I met this lady during my 100 levels registration and we became freinds instantly. Her physical appearance could make anyone act stupíd cos, she was extremely pretty, tall and voluptuous. If you know the Shuwa Arabs, from far side of Nigeria and Chad. But my dream of being with her evaporated few months later. As a geology student, their association normally organize excursion for their freshers in their second semester of 100 LEVELS.

Unfortunately for them the movement was a night journey and they got into a robbery scene close to Abuja and the armed robbers ordered every one to lay on the road. During that darkest hour, then a sound of a truck with faulty head lamps increased towards their direction, the driver of truck held a touch light from his position which he uses to navigate the road(can you believe this nonsense?) and they had to jump off the road to the road side for safety. My friend, a typical ajebutter from a very wealthy family, jumped off the roads. After some moments, according her course mate she noticed she had some minor cuts below her kneecap. Few seconds later, she started screaming and wailing which scared the hell out of the robbers, her course mates thought she was just faking it.

The leader of the gang had to let them go. They were lucky to get back to university of Jos teaching hospital and the doctors said her left leg must go off, cos she contacted tetanus which is spreading fast to the other body parts, the hospital contacted her dad, the dad asked her to hold on, saying he can't trust Nigerian doctors and, he immediately got an air ambulance from Germany which will arrive in the next ten hours.

She died 2 hours later. Ambulance landed within schedule but it was just too late to save her. That was how my goldmine blew away within 2 days. She was literally paying all my bills. Such is life bro.

One of the few Nairalanders i respect and admire so much. You are very knowledgeable about Nigeria and Nigerian politics. Your comments are devoid of any tribal remarks. We shall miss you for the period that you will be away. May God the great healer grant you speedy recovery. It is very challenging living as an amputee, but it's not the end of your life. Get well soon Sir.

@Payless,
It's well bro. So long as God lives, all things are possible. Your wife will survive from this deadly disease. Be strong bro.
