Igbo Youths Wont Support Jonathan In 2015 Unless He Fulfills 2011 Promises by Ayekotoo(m): 6:25am On Jul 29, 2013
AHEAD of the 2015 presidential election, Igbo youths have vowed not back President Goodluck Jonathan’s re-election bid unless he fulfills his 2011 campaign promises to the South-East geo-political zone.

According to the youths, of 10 promises, the President as of now is only tackling one and appears bent on shifting the rest to his second term, which they said was not fair.

In a chat with Vanguard, Evang Elliot Uko, President of Igbo Youth Movement, IYM, an amalgam of 42 Igbo youth groups, said Jonathan had not really appreciated the massive support Ndigbo gave him in 2011.

His words: “We expected massive industrial and infrastructural development. We are not seeing that. We thought he would keep his promises. From the way things are going, it is clear that only the Enugu International Airport could materialize before 2015.

“He promised us at Enugu Stadium, at Imo, Ebonyi, Abia and Anambra campaign rallies, 29 months ago, that we would see a functional seaport at Onitsha and Oguta, power plant at Oji River, dry inland port at Aba, second Niger bridge, re-work on the Enugu-Onitsha road, Enugu-Port Harcourt road, etc. But we suspect he wants to shift all these to his second term; that is not fair.”

We want him to establish a South-East office in his office and review weekly the fulfillment of his promises to Ndigbo if he wants a second term. He will have problems with his second term dream if he does not fulfill all the infrastructural promises he made to Ndigbo. That is the truth.

“We gave him 100 per cent support in 2011; we will only repeat that, if he fulfills all his infrastructural promises to the South East. He is our man but he must not take Ndigbo for granted. We are on ground and we know the grumbling of our people.

We believe we are doing him a big favour by giving him early warning signal. Ndigbo are not happy with the delay tactics of shifting every thing to his second term.

Those telling him that Ndigbo are dead meat are only deceiving him. We want him to fulfill his promises to Ndigbo. We plead with him to watch again the video of his campaign rally at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in March 2011 and remember all the promises he reeled out one by one. Our people are waiting expectantly.

“Ndigbo paid a heavy price for supporting him. Igbo votes saw him through and gave him the needed 25 per cent in 24 states thereby averting a run-off.

In anger over 800 Igbo souls were slaughtered as the results of the polls were announced, only the 10 youth corpers were compensated, nobody remembers the 800 Igbo lives lost in gruesome decapitations in Kano, Bauchi, etc in April 2011.We made him President, we will do it again, if he endeavors to fulfill his promises to our people.

“We also want him to hand over power to an Igboman. He should reciprocate our massive support. It is only fair he does. We also want him to protect lives and properties of Nigerians resident in the North. We note an improvement and pray that sanity eventually returns to the North.

We also want him to set up a committee to work out the modalities for the convening of a National conference to restructure Nigeria along the lines of true federalism. Promises made in 2011 must be kept before talk of second term.”

Ndigbo here and there, which youth are they representing?

No body will determine what I personally will do, Ndigbo youth ni.
Make we hear word joor....

We aren't other tribe that will do anything said to them by senseless being. We Igbos are always free to do whatever we like.

I rest my case till then.......

I will vote for Jona 2015 if Buhari is his opposition.

Jona will only have problem if APC didn't choose Buhari.

I laff in Mandarin on reading this!!! Now the scales are falling off d eyes of some people. A wholesale endorsement of an apparently failed entity whose present score is 1/10 by d Ndigbos is bewildering. Now the likes of Rochas,Annie Okonkwo,Osita Izunaso,Ngige who are daring n very pragmatic as to truthfully locate the fact that GEJ/PDP is just using d Igbos to feather their own nest have become justified.

If at all GEJ must get an Igbo vote in 2015,it must be on merit/performance n not on some base considerations being presently bandied around by some people.

The part that says GEJ shd hand over to an Igbo man is wishful thinking IMHO,u pipo shd take yrselves seriously and stand up to fight yr own battles rather leaning on a helpless individual himself to make claim to d presidency and @ d same time wanting Biafra-a call which patently makes pipo suspicious of yr truest intentions politically

So far there are three contenders to the Presidency

1. A possible SW candidate under APC
2. A possible NW candidate under APC
3. GEJ as an incumbent on PDP.

Igbo youths are issuing empty threats to intimidate Jonathan. Beside Jonathan, I don't see anyone else they will vote for and APC does not need the SE to win national 2/3.

Though, that doesn't mean he shouldn't ensure those infrastructural development are put in place before 2015.

We should be discussing about other stuffs by 2015 not things that should have been taken care of before 2015.

Hmmmm, SE makes almost 25 % of the population in all 36 states, except Lagos where is estimated to be above 45%. This is not rocket science.

Second, because no one else in Lagos is chest beating about their numbers except ibos, it is easy for you to believe in your own trumpeted claims but I should remind you that Hausa has a higher population than Ibos in Lagos.

Third, SS is not a culture, tribe or ethnicity. SS has two ruling parties, ACN and PDP.

Fourth, MB is not an ethnic group, as long their governors remain in the NGF, their voting will follow suit.

Fifth, APGA is dead! So beside voting a Yorubaman, an Hausa/Fulani or GEJ, whoelse is Ibo youths going to vote for?

Lets assume they are Igbo-Yoruba youths masqurading as igbos as you claim, it is obvious that they have succeeded in exposing the ills of the gov't in their apparent failure to fulfil their electoral promises, but most annoying, is the undying determination of some gullible, misguided and uninformed fellows to continue to vouch for the President. Competence and tangibility in development should be the basis for election, anything other than these, would be considered as tribalism and ethnic bigotry.

Least we forget, the following are the PROGRESS made so far in the southeast in terms of federal govt PROJECTS in the last 2yrs:

1) Re-construction and expansion of Bridge-head to upper Iweka section of the Enugu-Onitsha express road has been completed.

2. Redesign and acceleration of work on Enugu-Onitsha expressway. The road is benefitting from SURE-P and will be completed next year. What has slowed down the project is not funding (funding is NEVER a problem for any project on SURE-P). The road had to be redesigned and re-procured through BPE.

3. Completion of the Onitsha inland port. The commissioning of the N4.6 billion project followed an extensive overhaul of the nation’s largest river port, complete with new and state of the art facilities, warehouses and equipment such as cranes and forklifts. The port is being concessioned by BPE as we speak (very long bureaucratic process). Meanwhile, all the heavy equipments needed by Julius Berger for work on Second Niger Bridge were delivered through the Onitsha River Port.

5. Ongoing construction of federal secretariat in Anambra. Anambra state, despite its status in the country, had no federal secretariat. But that will soon change as work will be completed next year.

6. Construction of Zik Mausoleum in Anambra. Past govts had paid lip service to this very important project. The project will be completed in time for 2014 centinary celebration.

7. Supporting the Anambra state govt all the way until the state became an oil producing state.

8. Provision of huge funds for infrastructural upgrade of the Anambra state university. It was one of the 12 universities that recieved N25 billion intervention fund late last yr.

9. The Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, has rehabilitated and reopened the depot at Aba, Abia State, after it was moribund for over 6 years. Consequently, in the southeast, we now buy fuel at the same price it is sold in Lagos and Abuja. In the past, we used to pay N20 or more extra. The Enugu depot will follow suit later this year.

10. Establishment of another federal university in Ebonyi. Before now, Ebonyi state was the only southeast state without federal university.

11. Federal Govt has completed the remodelling of Enugu Airport.

12 The remodelling of Sam Mbakwe Airport Owerri is still ongoing.

13. Federal govt has commenced construction of N13billion international Airport terminal at Enugu Airport.

14. Based on the remodelling done so far at Enugu Airport and upgrade of its facilities to an International Airport, Ethiopian Airways will commence international flight operations from the Airport this August.

15. Upgrade of the federal medical centre in Ebonyi State to a Federal Teaching Hospital. Consequently, the southeast now have 3 Federal Teaching Hospitals- UNTH (Enugu), NAUTH (Nnewi) and in Ebonyi

16. Commencement of preliminary works on the Second Niger Bridge by Julius Berger.

17. Completion of the Onitsha-Owerri road. In 2007, this road was so bad that former governor Ikedi Ohakim asked Igbos to pay N100 per head to fix the road.

18. Ongoing rehabilitation of Port-Harcourt-Enugu-Makurdi-Lafia-Jos-Gombe-Maiduguri railway. This is expected to completed this year.

19. Completion of the capital dredging of the River Niger.

There are other road, erosion control, port projects, etc that are either completed or are still ongoing.

These notwithstanding, we in the southeast are not satisfied. We need more and more projects. The ones that are still ongoing must be completed. But we know where we'r coming from and we appreciate the PROGRESS.

In terms of appointments, the southeast have never had it so good. The prime minister and minister of finance of this govt is PROUDLY IGBO. The Protector-in-chief of the President and the federation is PROUDLY IGBO. But we need more.
