The SSA briefing says the Mossad operative had very close links with the Jewish community in South Africa, including the Jewish Board of Deputies, something which "might have been an indication that the Mossad utilised them in its covert collection activities".

Yeah, there seems to be a flaw with the Tavor. Only the navy seems to favour them. Bear in mind the navy mainly conducts CQB.

The Air Force is gradually dumping them, while the AFSF didn't even consider it at all.

OPERATION GREEN SWEEP: CAS VISITS MAIDUGURI TO ASSESS PROGRESS

The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, yesterday, 17 November 2018, embarked on an operational visit to the Air Task Force (ATF) Operation Lafiya Dole in Maiduguri to assess the progress of the Operation Green Sweep, an Air Interdiction Operation targeting selected Boko Haram Terrorists (BHT) locations within the fringes of Lake Chad as well as areas around the Alagarno and Sambisa Forests in Borno State. The Operation, which commenced on 14 November 2018, is aimed at further degrading the remnants of the terrorists, curtailing their freedom of action and denying them bases from which they could launch attacks. The first few days of air strikes ‪recorded significant successes against BHT Camps, Command Centres and Logistics Bases at Sharama, Buk, Sabon Tumbun, Tumbun Rego and Kusuma, among others‬

Upon arrival in Maiduguri, the CAS, who was accompanied by other senior officers from NAF Headquarters, was briefed on the progress of the Operation by the Commander ATF, Air Commodore James Gwani. The CAS also interacted with pilots and other crew members participating in the Operation, congratulating them for the successes recorded and commending them for the phenomenal work they had been doing. While encouraging them to remain steadfast, Air Marshal Abubakar assured that HQ NAF would provide all necessary support to enable them continue making vital contributions towards securing the nation and safeguarding the lives of the Nigerian people. The CAS seized the opportunity to inspect facilities at NAF Base Maiduguri including some ongoing projects like the new Pilots’ Crew Room Building, Block of 30 single bedroom transit accommodation for airmen/airwomen as well as a new extension for the Headquarters ATF Building which was being executed by the ATF Commander. While in Maiduguri, the CAS also oversaw an attack on a BHT hideout in Tumbun Sale carried out by 2 Alpha Jet aircraft supported by an Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance aircraft. The CAS and members of his visiting team have since returned to Abuja.

This is very important news.

We could have our JF-17 Block II fighter jets upgraded with AESA radar.

They still carry out ground attack missions. Obviously with 2 jets lost recently we can't hope to see the same volume of missions with them.

Another part I am hoping things get corrected is the engine. If the Chinese can breakthrough in that, we'd be home and dry

RD-33 is a crap engine. Good performance, but short life and maintenance intensive

The new radar is just perfect for the aircraft. It gives the JF-17 so much more teeth. I hope follow-on orders get this upgrade.

I don't trust Chinese engines. Most Chinese engines are based off Russian engines, so instead we should go for the RD-33MK. The version used in the MIG-35.

One more thing is the notion of the JF-17 being affordable. Each of the 3 JF-17's cost the Nigerian Air Force $60 million a pop.

$180 million for 3 aircrafts is not cheap at all.

The RD-93 is a smokey engine. Although I have no authoritative damning report on the engine but for what its worth I don't like that engine. What made me talk about a Chinese engine is the seeming progress they made (check the TVC engine they made for the J10) & their serious a research about the same.

I also don't trust Chinese engines but their metallurgy is getting better by the year. Although face value of the engine installed on the J10 doesn't tell much, it shows the technology gap is closing.

I also think the Ruskies will not sell the RD-33mk as it could kill off the appeal of their own Fighter.

I expect the JF17 price to reduce with follow on orders.

Am i about to introduce you to this video? cheesy cheesy I'm excited already.

Watch this video of the JF-17 at the Radom Air Show in Poland. Bear in mind this is the Block I.

The Chinese TVC engine is great an indigenous, but the Russians have been building engines since World War II. The AL-31 is the engine that powers the J-20 stealth fighter.

High performance engine tech, is a closely guarded national treasure.

The Chinese have been making good progress in engine tech, but no one can vouch for their reliability.

Selling the RD-33MK is profit for Russia. The MIG-35 is a medium weight fighter. It doesn't compete with the JF-17. The Russians don't have a single engine fighter.

The JF-17 even has more competitors in it's category. There's the Gripen, Tejas(whenever it enters service), the South-Korean plane, F-16 Block 52, FTC-2000 plus other LIFT aircrafts which poorer nations might go for instead of proper fighter jets.

I mean, it's a testament to the JF-17 that they've even been able to make foreign sales.

The price might still reduce with further deliveries but it's not cheap.
